AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.
Solved! Go to Solution.

I wonder what ebay will look like this time next year if this B.S. continues...?
Begging private sellers to come back is my guess.

Does it still stay Custom when it sells? Wish I'd known about it earlier if so. I've wasted 3 weeks not listing anything.
18-07-2025 5:47 PM
It appears to be holding at present, leastways I have heard no reports of it being changed for anyone since I first posted it........yet! I am presuming that it will not change as customer service have been touting my workaround for some time now.

If you’re actually selling a large or overweight item (which for some reason they don’t cater for) I don’t see how they can change it to SD (I mean there’d be no logical reason)
18-07-2025 6:10 PM
Well, there is also no logical reason why they don't provide the means for listing these items but this is not on their agenda along with numerous other things. They expect everything from 1 ounce to 100 lb to fit into their standard boxes and weights. They do seem to be hell-bent on commercial suicide at present.
I puzzled over how to retain my standard delivery which is special delivery for months before I was switched to simpleton delivery, only when I was switched was I able to devise the workaround. If I had solved it earlier I could have saved more people from the agony with listing these items.

They said they’re “aware of the issue and working on it “ 🤭
this has been nearly a month now or so
They can’t fit large items into simple delivery
it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me unless they actually don’t know how to fix their system
🙄
there’s thousands of items that can’t be sent SD that are large
they must be losing money in sitting on the problem so long
well, unless everyone’s using the workaround but I bet not that many frustrated sellers come onto the forums and find it
im waiting to see if they switch over eligible custom delivery items onto SD come 6 august
that would be so embarrassing for them and so annoying at best for many people
im trusting they have the wherewithall to not screw it up

Unfortunately there are only a few people that I can inform as many, many people don't even know these discussion boards exist so they are completely in the dark as to what to do now. Hopefully some can pick up on it with a google search. I don't suppose that I have even reached 100 people with the workaround. It is unbelievable that customer service touts my workaround as a solution when people contact them over it.
So, ebay owe me for the workaround, sellotape, boxes, packaging, fuel to post office since the changes - who do I send the invoice to?😂
I am looking forward to 6th Aug also to see what sort of male hen-up happens then.

I wonder if ebays waiting for evri dhl merger to go through and take their large parcel business
they’ll have a long wait as the govts investigating it
18-07-2025 6:48 PM
And there is the new royal mail/parcelforce tie up that is seeing royal mail parcels being diverted to parcelforce Coventry for onward delivery, That may have a bearing in the future. That sure as heck confused me when I was notified by royal mail that my parcel had been sent to parcelforce Coventry!
18-07-2025 7:09 PM
Well I hope it works out for everyone. I couldn’t add tracking and had to message the buyer the details. Also had to argue with customer service that it had been delivered and get paid. Using this workaround and trying to find loopholes is all very well, but it is just adding more confusion to a broken system. Ebay will no doubt plug the holes and stop sellers from using custom postage. Too much hassle for me I’m afraid. It’s wrong that Ebay can change your selling options. They don’t advise that they have done it and I found to my cost that they don’t care. I’m waiting for this company to see sense, but I doubt it will happen any time soon.

Some people can add the tracking and some cannot. It is another thing that you may have to try to find a way through yourself. Customer service just say add it without knowing how to do so. ( like with everything you ask them )
It is a very broken system that I wouldn't wish on anybody.

I have to say this simple delivery thing is *bleep* and far from simple.
Small parcels I used to take to the Post Office, which I am still able to do. But funnily so many people complain about Evri and yet even though Royal Mail is an option EVERY single person has chosen Evri with this Weeks small parcel. I am not taking a single Royal Mail parcel to the Post Office lol.
All my medium parcel used to be collected by Evri, now ebay have removed Evri medium collection. There is only Royal Mail collection which is OK. But again most are choosing Evri which means I have to lug a load of medium parcels to drop off points. 😐
The only time I can actually chose a sensible and practical delivery is when the parcel is large. but that's a long ass complicated system at the moment.
Wish I could opt out of this garbage (UN)simple delivery system. it was so much more practical before.
Just by looking at this thread which was started way before we were forced to used this new system people knew it would be a dumb move.
I am having to write on the labels to remind me what I have got to do with each parcel now as it's such a clusterf*ck.
They sure know how to break stuff with isn't broke and not able to fix the stuff which is broke.

From a buyers point of view they can't pick the courier they want (Evri RM) they only see standard and express delivery price (most go for the cheapest)
As you have both selected the default seems to be Evri.
18-07-2025 7:37 PM
Standard is evri, express is royal mail - that is what I have found out by varying which I select as a buyer to test. Why on earth ebay cannot place the couriers name with it I don't know.
People plump for the cheapest which is standard therefore evri is selected without the buyer knowing.
18-07-2025 7:38 PM
Oh interesting, I rarely buy from ebay. I thought they could see the postal company.
OK that makes more sense.
18-07-2025 7:57 PM
Unless they have Evri turned of and then its standard RM 48 tracked and express RM 24 tracked.
Most listing I have been able to work out if they have both turned on is if it is also showing a price for a click & collect option if so I choose express and get it delivered via RM. Don't like Evri

'People plump for the cheapest which is standard therefore evri is selected without the buyer knowing.'
Yes, many will opt for the cheapest, but many buyers certainly wouldn't have chosen Evri, if they had known...

All my listings got changed to SD a couple of weeks ago ,most items are under £10 but weigh over 100 grams so I had no choice ,but we are lucky enough to live within walking distance of a large Post Office & an Evri drop off shop in our town, but this isn't the same for everyone .I don't like the royal mail side of SD because I don't have a smart phone or printer ,but with the Evri drop off shop there is a label printing machine just inside and I just tap in the 6 digit number under the QR code ,no need to have to scan anything just tap the number in manually ,then put the label on the parcel and take it to the counter for the staff to scan the barcode on the label ,they ask for your email address too because they no longer give you a receipt ,but the proof is sent to your Ebay account and your email .I can be in and out of the shop in 45 seconds .
