NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It's a simple sign of how things are going with simple delivery..before all this started i'd generally go down to our local post office once a week (sometimes twice) and there would be queues halfway down the shop and on the self-service machines..for the last few months the place has become deserted (great to avoid queuing)...the machine operator has said she's noticed hardly any items to do with ebay anymore.

Not going well,is it?

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Agree with you on these "work arounds"..fine if you're only altering 10 items but 300 is far too time consuming - then "they" would probably get their knickers in a twist and find another way to reset everything back to "their" stupid way.

It didn't have to come to this - ebay should've just got rid of the "free to sell" scam, & been honest with sellers..charge them a flat rate charge of 10% on every item sold - and only taking a maximum of £10.

e.g. Seller sells item for £10 / ebay get £1.

e.g. Seller sells item for £50 / ebay get £5.

e.g. Seller sells item for £100 / ebay get £10.

e.g. Seller sells item for £250 / ebay get £10.

Far too simple I know.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Did you need to refund the buyer the postage? If they paid ebay the postage, any labels unused would get refunded back to the buyer after 30 days. This is why it's so confusing.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Exactly.  I had 250+ knitting patterns listed plus other stuff, and there is no way I'm faffing around spending hours of my life changing listings, for eBay to just press a button and be back to square one.

By now, eBay clearly know they are haemorrhaging private sellers at a rapid rate, and know that they have to do something to try and stop the flow, hence this week's email.   For so many private sellers though, it's SD that is the main problem, so I can't see these latest changes making as much difference as they might hope.   eBay will no doubt be locked into contracts with Evri and RM which means they probably can't make SD optional again any time soon even if they wanted to.

For me, it's not just being forced to use it and having to post within 3 days that disturbs me, but the uncertainty and confusion around it, and the  implications of it when something goes wrong.

So they can mess about with BPFs and payments as much as they like to show they are listening,  but until they scrap SD or make it optional I will not be coming back to sell.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Its too simple. There would be zero reason for ebay to want anyone to list anything on their site over £100.

If anything - the more expensive sales should subsidise (to an extent) the lower value ones.

By the same logic (over simplified maths I admit)

You earn £10,000 - government gets £1,000
You earn £100,000 - government gets £10,000
You earn £1million - government gets £10,000

That's what I was thinking. If @monkeymafia2010 has refunded the buyer, and the buyer paid for the postage, surely the buyer will end up with two refunded postage payments per item...? 😖

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Ebay are obviously tucked up in bed with Evri and RM. Therefore don’t expect any of them to hop out in hurry. Ebay will continue to keep changing Simple Delivery rules, but they won’t abandon it, they will continue to make it mandatory as they would lose too much if they did. As I have said previously, you now need a degree in Ebay Simple Delivery to even attempt to list an item and then you can’t be sure of the final if you have a sale. Sheer stupidity on EBay’s part. I hope it comes back to bite them.

I have hardly been in my local PO since SD was forced on me,  they have had the couple of sales that i have made on the other e site but that is all.  May not made them a fortune but it all helped, jumping into bed with e bay may not be such a success as they were hoping.

But it isn't your local PO, or even the Post Office at all that jumped into bed with ebay.  Royal Mail is a separate organisation.

Indeed, when you hand in an SD parcel on which you've already printed the label, I'm doubtful whether your PO gets any commission at all.  I believe the only reason small PO's put up with this nonsense is because they hope that during the visit you remember you need a bottle of milk or something to microwave.

Concerning the 2-day despatch, go to Preferences https://www.ebay.co.uk/ship/prf and scroll down to 'Dispatch and handling' and set your working days as you wish.  Perhaps just Saturday.

I don't think that's possible any more (Unless it's been changed again recently)

When SD was first announced part of the T&Cs were that everyone enrolled must post within 2 days.  At some point that seems to have been extended to the 3 days quoted now.

You can no longer set the number of days, but you can still set the days when you dispatch.  If you get a sale on a Monday and you only set your ebay working days to Saturday, I can't see how even the morons at ebay could expect you to meet a 2 day dispatch window.

@squirrelz14   "The link you quoted doesn't give me the option to change despatch time."  I doubt I said it did, it gives the possibility of setting your working days.  Nowhere near what you and I would prefer, but better than nothing.

Todays (1st) "simple" postage issue:

Buyer wins 3 of my auctions.

Simple postage wont let me combine shipping.

So I have to refund the buyer, 2x out f the 3 shipping cost they've already paid.

Went alright but realised:

I have paid the 1x shipping cost from money ebay hold until 2 days after its been delivered (abroad).

Okay I've had to acept this BS.

But the kick in the teeth is when the postal refund x2 that I've sent the buyer, come out of my funds, and not the pending funds from the actual sale.

So while I wait to be paid for my foreign order, I'm actually out of pocket for the 2x postal costs I've had to refund, until 48 hours after the order arrives.

So I carry the financial burdon of the mistakes of a multinational company ebay, whilst they hold onto the cash from my sale.

When we are forced into this situation, the funds for the refund, should come out of the the pending total, not my cleared funds.

This is simply drop jaw stuff. Ebay could not care less about us sellers, launching this unfinished buggy new system on us is beyond the pale.

Sellers now are just an unavoidable annoyance to ebay, and they treeat us as such.

Remember when altavista used to be the worlds favourite search engine you crooks?

Your time is coming.

Well, hopefully you won't make that mistake again.  Why pay out before you've had a chance to see how the whole deal pans out?  At the very most just tell such a buyer that you intend compensating them for shipping if you're able to.  Or don't.  After all, they bought and paid, so any refund would come as a pleasant surprise.

But who has time to go through that convoluted process?  Unless they're just listing a couple of items.

A site that gets my listings will be one that makes me feel like I'm a valued customer, wants a win-win for me as well as their business.

If SD were optional, ebay would have a vested interest in making it work really really well, and making it slightly better value than going to other postal methods.  And if it were that good, most of us would WANT to use it and ebay would get the volume they're looking for.

Do we really have to send these people to Business School 101?  They don't seem to have got past kindergarten.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

You are so right.

The being able to mess around with fees and charges anytime they want to is the most concerning part.

BPF is really a platform fee to help them gain more money.

SD which was launched in April is a monumental mess considering it is now July and it is still being changed and altered literally every other day.

This platform seriously needs to get a grip on reality and start acting like a Multi National Company.

SD is still the main reason I'm no longer selling.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I have just been on a chat with customer services to complain about Simple Delivery and have been informed of a work around to use custom postage. I have just tried it and it seems to work, how long for though I don't know:

1) put the item price as 1000 GBP

2) scroll down to postage and click add primary service and add the service that you want and the price that you want the buyer to be charged

3) a little bit above the postage you have to put the measurements of the item, put them as 150-50-50 and then go and change the price to the original price that you wanted

Try it for yourselves.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Another StD issue.

Had a repeat buyer from a couple of weeks ago buy 3 items this week.

StD was the only postage option available, but, as I had the buyers address from a couple of weeks earlier, I thought that I would combine the items into one box and send out via my usual method stamps/RM.

However, I am unable to mark the items as dispatched, and have now incurred the ‘overdue’ sending tag.

I am currently awaiting a response from you know who as to how to flag the items as sent.

I would add that I messaged the buyer with the proof of posting.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I hope it works for you, but there are no guarantees that if your item sells that Ebay ai doesn’t play about and change it to SImple Delivery. I listed a fair while ago with custom postage after speaking with an agent and when it sold guess what? Simple Delivery which cost me the postage and the buyer got refunded for the unused label. We shouldn’t have to try and be clever to bypass the system, it should be straightforward and Simple. Beware!
