AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Maybe notifications to a mobile from the App are different to what people get on laptops etc.
I was just getting fed up of posts suggesting this thread should be closed or posts saying if the number of my posts werent as high the posts etc would be a lot lower.
My posts saying thank you were due to the notifications I received giving a thumbs up from names I'd not seen before or had not seen posts from.
Obviously they were related to this thread and some posts on it.
My thank you posts were just a thank you.
As for the absorb suggestions like me having goals or targets they are absolutely untrue.
I am a ex private seller who has been hit by these draconian changes. I hardly buy now either.
I am active on the thread I started because of the monumental mess this platform has become.

As i have previously said it wasn't about wanting kudos.
I was saying thank you because some people give thumbs up without actually posting. That obviously means they liked a post or agreed with a post.
To many people in these forums always think the worst of a lot of others.
That is not my attitude.
I despise this platform as it is at the moment.
I just want to see private sellers try to help other sellers. It's useful finding out issues that private sellers are experiencing.
I will remain active and hope this thread continues at least until this platform finally sorts itself out instead of so many frequent changes.

Can we not just get back to the reason for this thread, which I thought was to help people with the problems they are facing manoeuvring through the minefield that is Simple Deivery. As far as I am concerned the amounts of Kudos received and total posts made are second fiddle. You as a Helper are adding nothing of benefit to private sellers trying to overcome or change this nonsensical mess Ebay have created. This is not about oneupmanship. Why do people keep going off on a tangent. I want to read helpful posts that are of benefit.

They also know that "we" will get used to their policy changes and things will go along as they have done before.
But this time 'we' won't - out of around 500 items that I would usually have on eBay, I only now have around 40 - mostly those that can be 'custom' posted at letter rate, or where their small parcel rate is actually cheaper than Royal Mail.
It's all very well eBay increasing their 'take' on sales, by buyers surcharge and over-priced delivery, but if generally the volume of sales plummet then that take will diminish too. 100 per cent of nothing is still nothing.

I do want to keep this thread on track minus the bickering and minus having to feel like I need to justify myself because of certain posts made.
I've done that now and if they believe me fine. If they don't then I'll try ignoring them.
I was happily doing some dummy listings when I got those notifications.
Even though people have said SD is getting better its still a long long way from being viable for me.
For me to list and sell a signed cd worth between £10-£20 the costs and totals are ridiculous when I factor in SD costs, BPF, and if I paid to promote the listing.
It's still all a absolute joke at the moment.

I agree. Only the sellers who carry on best they can will go along with it.
That's why so many genuine private sellers have either removed most of their listings or are giving other platforms a try.
There is no way I'll be selling any signed cd's or silver coins on here as it is at present.

The platform might get away with it short term by saying they are making a lot from people selling etc because of these changes.
However if anyone with a ounce of common sense really looks into things they'll realise they are losing private sellers hand over foot.
Eventually things will get seen for what they truly are and with competing platforms doing increasingly better things could get interesting.

I did some dummy listings this morning just to find out how far this platform is from being viable for me.
To sell a signed cd which cost me between £10-£20 and just trying to get my money back, after I factored in SD costs and costs to promote the listing the total amount was just silly. Then I factored in the final price for a buyer including BPF and the total was just ridiculous. Plus there is no way I would ever trust sending a cd using evri.
I definitely won't be selling again for a long time and that is if I sell on here again.

Promote? Really? Here's some insight I saw this morning, a rather thorough analysis:

I love that place. You can actually speak your mind and truly say what you think.
Could you just imagine if we could speak our minds like that here.
There would be pandemonium.
My dummy listings earlier were to prove to myself that even with SD very slowly morphing into being better than it was this platform is totally miles away from being viable for me at present.

I've sent that link to myself on WhatsApp in case anything gets edited from your post.
Thank you for that.
Some great informative stuff regarding selling.

"You as a Helper are adding nothing of benefit to private sellers trying to overcome or change this nonsensical mess Ebay have created."
Please don't talk about my status as a "helper" as anything I chose to be. I suppose it appears when you have helped enough people....
There are plenty of threads for specific issues, the answers to which you are unlikely to find in this one even if they are here simply because it is too big.
Rugbyguy has done a great job with this thread and sniping about him or the post is just a business seller thing. And i was pointing out that most of them have gained their "status" on the forum by saying the same thing over and over about private sellers.
I am in the same storm as everyone else.
Edit. Whilst writing this post, i became a "GUIDE" because someone gave me Kudos for answering a question on another thread.! Yay me!

Hi Ed Dreams, Vted never really had the smaller packages before when it was just clothes. Small parcel is suitable for clothes. They may find it harder to get traction on other items going forward without adding it as an option.

Whilst muttering about promoted listings, I have one listing that I put up for test purposes and there are 101 (106 yesterday) promoted business sellers listings plastered all over the page, the majority of which are totally irrelevant items. Quite often someone's shop appears at the top of the page, sometimes underneath my details. It is getting to the point that my listing is being totally submerged under all the promotions. If I were a buyer it would put me off looking at the listing. I certainly will not get back to selling with this type of shenanigan going on. The latest anti-buyer ploy by ebay is the phone call verification on bids https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Buying/Unable-to-place-bids-without-phone-verification/m-p/7891219#M... . Talk about a race to the bottom, they cut their own throat with simpleton delivery etc and they go and introduce another platform killing measure. What on earth are they thinking with these ludicrous measures?

Apologies if I have upset you or anybody else. I don’t know how various people who post on this site achieve their status. My point is too many unhelpful posts are made seemingly having a dig at the original poster ‘rugbyguy’ . He started this thread not for self acclaim but to generate helpful comments to aid private sellers with this horrible SD. I have read this thread from the start and wish to glean useful comments and suggestions. Sorry but there are so many irrelevant posts. I too am in this storm of sheer lunacy created by Ebay.

Thanks for that link. I've just found the thread and asked kat at ebay if she will clarify a couple of things about how it works. I presume that they must have a good reason for doing it, but I can't think what that could be so hopefully kat will clarify.

The real reason will be that they've recently suffered a massive bot attack ruining auctions. And they couldn't think of a better way to solve it. But the answer you'll get is "I've contacted the team to find out more information about this. The relevant person is away for 4 weeks, but I'll get back to you as soon as I have more to share".
I'd like to work for ebay. For an American company they have an unusually generous vacation policy.
No, scratch that. There's no way I'd ever want to work for ebay. And we should lighten up on them, it must be horrible.

The status thing is a creation of this platform.
I think its a combination of time spent in the forums and posts made and thumbs up received etc etc. There are a lot of things involved.
Thank you for what you said earlier. And you are right about the sheer lunacy created here.
