AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

They mean N.I.No. as an abbreviation for National Insurance Number. ( They can't get the abbreviation correct!)

@slipinsidethishouse What does NINO mean, please? I did politely request people to stop using
initials and assume we know what they mean.
___________________________________________________________________________
People won't stop using acronyms because they are convenient and most people understand them or know how to find out if they don't know. It takes only a few seconds to put the acronym into a search engine.
NINO is National Insurance Number.
The reason the acronym is NINO and not NIN is because NIN has other uses already. NINO is unique.

It should too be difficult to type N.I. No. which would be understood by everybody. I've never seen NINO used before other that in this forum , and I didn't know what they were talking about then.

As at todayI have just 36 items listed on eBay, all under £10 and all letter size that I can send for just 87p without getting involved in 'simple' delivery. It's even simpler for me like that. The 36 items have been looked at a total of 119 times and one items has one watcher. Every item why I am only listing letters-sized low value items, and that I am not listing larger or dearer items on eBay owing to the buyer surcharges and expensive postage charges that are forced on sellers. I also explain that these larger and dearer items, of which I now have over 450, are listed on the 'boot sale' section of my 'greater london bus map' website. A couple of sales have resulted so far - that's more than on eBay!

I've never seen it written as N.I. No. but whether it is that or NINO, NINo, N.I.N.O., N.I.N.o., it's all the same thing. I would recognise all of those as being National Insurance Number. We can't make other people conform to the version we personally prefer or expect people to write things out in full.

Yes since Simple Delivery became compulsory I will be listing pick up only. I used to mail worldwide but my phone doesn't do QR codes so I'm now scuppered. Ebay should reconsider compulsory Simple Delivery. It's a misnomer.
18-05-2025 1:58 AM
Pick up can no longer be cash and has to go through Ebay and they provide a code that the buyer has to give the seller so it's not simple either

We are leaving ebay(sbay-scammerbay) they let scumbags to keep our items (worth £350) to keep without returning it. I may as well send my stock to charity. Die slowly ebay.

Was watching the auction professors latest video last night and sounds like they have problems with combined shipping over there. Dont hold out much hope for combined shipping with SD ☹️
18-05-2025 8:47 AM
Well not completely- when using SD labels you do indeed get a QR code however in the email you ALSO get a 6 digit code which you can use to print the label (definitely Evri, not sure about the RM version). If your phone doesn’t do emails but you have that ability on laptop or pc you would have to write them down before going to post shop.

This "advice" comes up now again, usually from people who don't have a great deal of experience with them (let's call them "D"), but just want to claim anything is better than eBay.
D will charge you a flat fee of 9% on all sales, although there isn't yet a BPF. All items must be listed at fixed price - there are no auctions, and no "offers" system. Unless you have rare records, your average items will be completely lost among literally thousands of other examples. Listing correctly is very difficult, as you will often be given hundreds of choices with only tiny non-obvious differences between the two. (To most buyers, that doesn't matter, but, to some, it does.)
Also, anyone who has used D for a number of years will see that they are evolving to take more control over processes, not to the same extent as eBay yet, but moving in that direction. A BPF is quite likely there in the future, as they can't really jack up their fees any more.
If you're in no hurry, and you're happy to leave your items listed there, hoping for them to sell eventually, D is fine for you. It doesn't have the size or variety of custom base to give quick results, so if you need money for a bill, or a holiday, it's not for you.
All this comes from someone with many years' experience of both eBay and D, although I admit I have not sold on D for a number of years, due to the poor results I got there.

That's very bad. Watching that clip gives you the impression that Ebay genuinely wants all private sellers off the platform.
And by extension also their buyers, since the removal of combined postage and being made to wait for postage refunds must be a big aggravation for them too.

I worked for the DHSS in the 80s, NINO was the standard abbreviation then and had probably been in use for many years before that - a quick search reveals that it first emerged in 1975 when the National Insurance system was computerised. It is used by most, if not all, employers. It isn't unusual to abbreviate an expression without it being pure initials; e.g. Pelican Crossing - PEdestrian LIght COntrolled. I imagine that most people understand BBQ and K9.
18-05-2025 9:14 AM
Me too! I wish I could remember useful stuff instead of 80s acronyms 😂
18-05-2025 9:18 AM
Yes, from the days when computer programs typically had variable names of no more than 6 characters. 'NATINSNO' would be too long.
'K9' was presumably used in the dental profession? And/or by veterinary services?
18-05-2025 9:25 AM
I do believe that is the case, I considered it long and hard and I am staying for now just to well let’s say be annoying 😂
18-05-2025 9:27 AM
We need a laugh in this thread, K9, BBQ, made me LOL, thanks for that. I worked for the NHS for many years, when I hear the word acronym now I quake, the NHS is full of them, I think they invented 1 a month 😂😂😂

Except that 'CANINE' is 6 letters so program variable doesn't explain that one.

Just for everyone info, From last week Ebay have introduced a Simple Delivery refund form. Which can be used when seller posts the item using their own courier. The seller must add the tracking number on Ebay before making a claim. Here is the link. I would say this is better than scamming sellers but this was not needed because the Ebay system should automatically process the refund when tracking number is added.

Ebay used to show a box somewhere on my selling pages showing my total number of sales and their total value. My average sale was worth around £10 and that was consistent until the box was dis-continued. My average may have gone up a bit since then but if it's now (say) around £12.
My last 4 full years sales on ebay were 22, 13, 13, 4. = £604. Divide by 4 = £151 pa.
Remarkably accurate IMO.
