EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Well finally after changing the format of their selling platform it seems every couple of weeks you have come up with the ultimate level of stupidity with this latest total ridiculous set of changes. Nobody is going to wait what could be weeks to be paid for a item they have sold who ever dreamt up this idea much be so far from reality as needing to push every part time seller off the site. I knew when they came up with the idea of free selling it wouldn’t be long before the idiots that run eBay came up with totally and ridiculous idea to claw back the money they have lost the whole senior management team at EBay must seat round a table all wearing clown costumes saying what is the most stupid idea we can come with to really get rid of half of our customers and the biggest clown wins with this idea and all the other yes people follow. Well I had started selling a few bits again but never again and will not be using EBay again to sell anything it has become a total joke of a company I hope your poor and flawed decisions finally catch up with this once great place to buy and sell has become a total joke.

And here's me thinking this is a discussion board where different opinions are allowed.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Not quite the same is it?

All I have done is stated that I will never ship without having cleared payment, everyone will have different conditions of sale but if my position is offensive to you then so be it. If you are happy with eBay doing this then I'm happy for you but I don't have to like what they are doing and I'll never understand putting so much effort in to defending a clearly unpopular decision from eBay. I'm not exactly the only one who thinks this is bull.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

I have done so when I was a new business seller. The payment is clearly displayed in your account and showing as on hold. The money is ring-fenced for you and is then released either after 14 days or after the item is marked as delivered if sent tracked. Non issue. You'll likely just have to find somewhere else to sell then if that's your stance and it's so unacceptable to have to wait.

Back at you.

I am prepared to abide by all of ebay's stated policies as long as I use the site, as I agreed to in the user agreement.  I don't have to get emotional about it though.

No you don't have to like what they are doing, but your choice is to leave, not break the rules.

It's like walking out of shop with a trolley full of food saying I'll come
back in a few weeks to pay for it, maybe !!

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

If you don’t agree with eBay’s terms and conditions simply close your account, as many of us will be doing once our last sale has cleared its 30 days. Save eBay the bother of doing it for you.

You simply cannot get payment before shipping through ebay going forward. Funds will be available to buy labels before SD is introduced in the next few weeks. Messing your buyers about, cancelling purchases and trying to get them to co-operate with off site trading will simply hurt you and them and other sellers (by reputation) but not eBay, who have a right to run their business the way see fit as long as its legal, which they will make sure it is.

What CS told you is wrong as usual and you have to accept that it will be ignored if you try to use it as evidence that you should be allowed to opt out of delayed payment and take paypal directly.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

If you are happy with that then I'm not going to try and persuade you otherwise but as an occasional private seller I would rather bin the item than ship without cleared payment.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

It's nothing like that because the buyer pays immediately/within the timeframe you set for payments.

Probably best not to feed the troll. I've just looked and this muppet has been registered since 2019 and has not a single shred of feedback.

If it was an eBay shill I'm sure they would fake some feedback so I guess its just a troll.

So another thing that you don't understand is the existence of posting accounts?

and multiple accounts owned by the same group of people on a windup.

Back on topic

It will be interesting to see how many private sellers will be left on eBay this time next year...

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

It's not really for you to lay out what choices I have. I have the choice to follow the advice of eBay customer support, if they took action against me because support advice is contradictory then I would have a choice on how much time to waste on a response.

I know it's really difficult to accept that more than one person disagrees with you, so if this thought helps you feel better, you can hold onto it 🙂

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

You joined about the same time I started selling - which I no longer do.

Those halcyon days were the days where I, and other sellers, would send items before the cheque or postal order cleared or was cashed.

To have ring-fenced payment now - well, wish we had had it then.

If you don’t want to send an item before you receive any actual money, that’s your prerogative.

But it is equally so for those sellers who will send items before receiving monies in their account.

Any consequences must be accepted, of course.

Things change - nobody likes change - but it always boils down to the basic choice of either “liking” it or lumping it - the course eBay takes won’t change.

If someone isn't happy with any present situation on eBay, they need to walk away from all parts of the site.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Yep, I used to get paid by cheque and postal orders a lot between 2002-2005. It would never have occurred to me to ship until the cheque had cleared or the postal orders cashed though.

But yes, eBay won't back down on this even if they lost a lot of users. Something this boneheaded will get doubled down on for sure. I'm definitely shopping around for a new place to offload stuff on - back to forums I think or I wonder if the old usenet groups still exist for selling old tech stuff.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

the question is why is it such an issue for you?   I pack and post as soon as i get the notification that the buyer has paid, not when it actually appears in my bank account.   As long as it is with E Bay in the process i know the money will be coming to me.  14 days is a long time (i rarely send tracked) but as a private seller i am not desperate for the cash and do not need it to pay for the postage.    The buyer has paid E Bay in good faith and expect the seller to send asap within their time guidance.   I prefer to treat my buyers in a responsible manner and not be childish about it.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

I get the impression a couple of people on this thread do not understand much of anything but pretend they do.   I may not like the change of payment but i can live with it, it will not cause me any problems so why fret on it.  I pack and  post as soon as i receive the notice from e bay that they have received the payment from the buyer.  I know it will appear so why make the seller wait until it goes into my bank account, seems daft to me.  I prefer getting feedback saying prompt delivery!

I already do and have never had a problem, have you????   You seem to be making a big fuss over nothing apart from a bit longer wait for your money.
