Stupid new eBay payment rules

Why the heck has eBay changed the payment rules yet again? Are they trying to mimic another selling site with the same unfair policies?

After reading some comments on this subject, one reply to a member, who stated that they couldn't afford to fork out postage costs and wait until their parcel had been delivered before receiving payment (which I totally agree with), was "if that strapped for cash then really shouldn't be selling on eBay". What nonsense!  In that case one wold just take items to a charity shop or bin them! The whole point of selling on eBay, I thought, was to make a bit of money, if financially well off then why bother?

I was about to start listing items for sale again, I'm trying to clear out my life of possessions because Yes, I do need the money and also because I'd like to make life a little easier for my family to cope with when I pop my clogs!  I also donated a percentage of sales to charities that I think are very worthwhile but undervalued , and in need of help.

I'm really disappointed with eBay, the new rules, I think are going to affect lots of members and most likely eBay's reputation and profits too!

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

Totally agree. Iv completely stopped selling now. I use vinted, much easier
process and u don't wait 2 weeks for payment if tracking not given and
buyer pays postage up front so can send straight away. Much better than
ebay

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

i was very very critical of the new system but i have kind of changed my tune along the way as there is definitely less scammers floating around ebay as there used to be and the sole reason is clearly the fact that they do not get the funds until the item has been confirmed as delivered ,so there is no more of this selling an item they do not have just to make a quick sale when clearly they are just looking for some quick cash and i am saying this because i recently paid £160 for a stone island jacket and a week later i still had not received it even though i paid £10.35 for royal mail special delivery which resulted in me getting a refund quicker from ebay than i ever had before, so for me you just need to work around the system and organise your selling needs accordingly

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

wonder what happens when the buyer says it never arrived when it did, a lot of couriers since covid now just leave parcel on the step. regardless of photo courier does, could be any old tom d*ck and harrys step. Wonder if ebay are as quick to refund the seller from buyers fraud.

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

Also another thing I find bad

if you promote your items they take their commision from your released funds from other items sold. NOT from the item that had just been sold via promoted items. So means you have to wait a further few days for that money they took. Very unfair.

I guess the April 1st payment was to dump all the money before end of tax year lol

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

I was made redundant over 12 months ago and being nearly retirement age i thought i'd make some money selling on eBay, i've sold before many years ago but everything has changed. Now you have to send the item and hope it gets delivered before you get payment, then there's buyer protection fee and now this Simple delivery. I've now decided that i will only use eBay to buy from and i will be going else where to sell on.

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

I've already pulled the plug in eBay over this grossly unfair payments situation. I'm currently seeking an alternative selling platform. I have an item which has been delivered, but eBay is still holding my money (in it's bank account and making interest) for a further two days.

I'm not happy with a lot of things eBay has changed over the past few months but the shipping is a silly idea.

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

I'm convinced that Ebay no longer want private sellers on their platform.

1. It's become impossible to competetively price your items without first taking off the 'buyer protection' fee, which, if you want to keep up with business seller prices, makes for a very low or zero profit.

2. Having to wait up to 2 weeks to get paid, because the other ways of getting paid quickly are unreliable. Let's face it, how many buyers actually leave feedback at all, let alone promptly and how often do 'other' services actually link in a comfirmed delivery to Ebay.

3. Now being forced to use their 'simple delivery' service, which isn't simple at all and does not work for everyone.

Ebay customer sevice also don't seem to know what they're doing either.

About 4 weeks ago I received the first email stating that simple delivery would be the only shipping option, and back then, was told by customer services that this was not the case and other service links would remain open.

Last week I got the same email, had the same chat with customer services and was told that yes indeed simple delivery was the only option.

Do they not know what they're planning or just BSing people?

I for one have removed all my listings and will not be selling on Ebay ever again.

There are PLENTY of other options available out there guys!

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

Parcel to go has hit back and suggested we change to business accounts,
apparently we can do our own labels.
Does anyone know about this?

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

I got an email from parcels to go last week also about changing to a business account allowing wider parcel choices and allowing you not to use ebays simple delivery.

However correct me if i'm wrong though but with a business account you'll have to go back to pay ( possible listing ) and selling fees plus with it being classed as such won't you have a pay to the tax people on your earnings.

I have noticed though that since the simple delivery came in i have been allowed to sell as before with my own service and postal costs.

But this buyer protection fee is making listing things a nightmare but when you list something you've got to take into consideration the % fee ebay add.

eBay at first announced that SD would be mandatory for Private Sellers from the 15th April.  However,  many are still seeing they can select Custom Postage, their own services and charges.

Do not be fooled this is staying,   as the date has been pushed back for all to be under SD's umbrella from the 28th April.

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

you can still use your own delivery co if you manually enter the details. I have been doing the same.
It does add time to create the postage and then add tracking codes the the orders. So not simple.

I will try the simple delivery at some point

Evri emailed me and upgraded my account to a premium account with cheaper postage, so keen on keeping that. Evri are feeling the pinch too.

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

I send many 2d class large letter packages @ £2.20 + 20p p&p. (At least I did when anyone was buying anything!) when I looked at the Simple Delivery, there didn’t appear to be a choice. It was £2.70 or nothing! The £2.70 rate is 50p more than it would cost for a label from the post office. This would be far to much to charge the buyer ( if there are any left) ?

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

There is an option look carefully at postage page and you can see more details and edit postage costs for buyer to pay for postage.

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

i have started putting in big letters "up to 10 days dispatch" on all my adverts , and if the buyer doesn't like it go buy from someone else , its absolutely disgusting behavior from ebay designed to bully you into registering as a business seller and to screw you if the delivery company lose the item , unfortunately they have the largest market share and ebid is a waste of space , i will register with HMRC at some point but i hate dealing with them in any way as they are so utterly useless

Re: Stupid new eBay payment rules

I couldn’t agree more with you! Unless ALL sold items are sent via a tracked service then you can kiss goodbye to being paid for at least a fortnight!
It really angers me how a Private Seller is immediately out of pocket due to having to pay postage upfront.
it is an exercise by EBay to bully all into becoming  Business Sellers, end of!
