Stupid new eBay payment rules

Why the heck has eBay changed the payment rules yet again? Are they trying to mimic another selling site with the same unfair policies?

After reading some comments on this subject, one reply to a member, who stated that they couldn't afford to fork out postage costs and wait until their parcel had been delivered before receiving payment (which I totally agree with), was "if that strapped for cash then really shouldn't be selling on eBay". What nonsense!  In that case one wold just take items to a charity shop or bin them! The whole point of selling on eBay, I thought, was to make a bit of money, if financially well off then why bother?

I was about to start listing items for sale again, I'm trying to clear out my life of possessions because Yes, I do need the money and also because I'd like to make life a little easier for my family to cope with when I pop my clogs!  I also donated a percentage of sales to charities that I think are very worthwhile but undervalued , and in need of help.

I'm really disappointed with eBay, the new rules, I think are going to affect lots of members and most likely eBay's reputation and profits too!

It really angers me how a Private Seller is immediately out of pocket due to having to pay postage upfront.

Pending funds can be used to buy postage plus with Simple Delivery the buyer pays eBay for label directly or if you offer free postage then the cost of the label is deducted from the buyer's payment, so there is no reason why a Private Seller should be left out of pocket.

Stupid new eBay payment rules

So far i'm still using the ' original ' postage method for my listings but i'm still being offered eBay's smart postage before listing.

Now if you list a book for instance, eBay's smart postage say's £3.33 however if you take that item to the post office or use say Parcels2GO it's £3.53 ( so your saving saving 20p using eBay postage ) however eBay don't take into consideration the cost of stationary supplies, packing materials, ink for your printer, electricity to list and print labels etc etc.  My postage cost for a book is £4.00 which by the time i pay for 2nd class tracked and the cost of my packing and stationary i don't make anything on that cost.

Now i could offer free postage but again that means i have to add my postage to the asking/sale price of item which would put off potential buyers/bidders because the item is priced too high. Then there's your ' buyers protection ' fee which is calculated as a percentage of your asking price for your item, and what doe's that fee really do? it's an administration fee eBay are charging the buyer so that if there is any issues with the buying process then they can step in and help, well didn't eBay do that before the silly fee came in.

So now eBay have dropped listing and selling fees for sellers but have added a fee to buyers, are keeping sellers money until the item arrives ( tracked ) and are trying to get sellers to take up eBay's wonderful postal service.

I'm still selling on eBay but personally i'd prefer if they went back to how it was, charge sellers for listing and selling, get your sales money as soon as the person pays, and be able to use whatever postal service you want.

Totally agree. I’m selling nothing at the moment. Absolutely nothing. Thought I’d had a couple of sales but they were people who hadn’t read the 4 mentions of “collect only” and couldn’t travel the 200 miles for a £10 item! 😆

So, if I added the packaging costs to the sale price, I’d sell less than nothing??

Immediately and pending are two different things. It's fine if you have pending funds in your account but once you sell something then you need to send the item out before you get paid, so your immediately out of pocket before you receive any funds. At least with the old way you had money paid before sending any item off.

So ebay have now made their simple delivery compulsory. It now means you have to measure and weigh your items before listing or have a rough idea of what they weigh and measure.

Thing is ebay haven't considered your stationery cost, so that cost has to be added to your sale or buy it now price then they add this buyers protection cost.

I've listed some items today but I'm not holding any hope of selling them.

Looks like I'll have to look elsewhere to sell. Unless I upgrade to a business account but then HMRC will want their cut.

Sell on a Sunday, post on a Monday, item received say Tuesday - only if tracking confirmed as delivered- funds available Thursday

Imagine asking your local shop or supermarket " aye I want to buy these but I will come in and pay you in 5 days time"

I'm afraid Ebay is no longer economically viable for most of us, I suppose we have  become institutionalised and maybe this is the jolt we need to spread our wings to pastures new, will buy the odd thing now and again if I really need to but my selling days on here are well and truly over

I know why eBay has introduced this Simple Delivery thing, it's because sellers were abusing the postage charge, I've seen sellers selling DVDS for £1 and charging £10 postage.

What I don't understand is this Buyers Protection cost, I thought if you have an issue with a seller then eBay are responsible because there offering a service not an extra cost for doing nothing if there's no issue with a seller.

Like people have said you don't go into your local supermarket and when you've gone through checkout you say I'll pay once I get the goods home.

I've never known a company that allows you to buy an item and they get the payment once the item has been delivered.

Alot of my favourite sellers have stopped selling on ebay and I think I'll be looking for somewhere else to sell.

If someone sold an item for £1 and charged £10 for postage and packaging, they would have paid fees on £11. Plus who would buy at £10 postage?

Totally agree it's just wrong. To be honest selling on Ebay now is just too much like hard work and it's always the seller that suffers
