Why the heck has eBay changed the payment rules yet again? Are they trying to mimic another selling site with the same unfair policies?
After reading some comments on this subject, one reply to a member, who stated that they couldn't afford to fork out postage costs and wait until their parcel had been delivered before receiving payment (which I totally agree with), was "if that strapped for cash then really shouldn't be selling on eBay". What nonsense! In that case one wold just take items to a charity shop or bin them! The whole point of selling on eBay, I thought, was to make a bit of money, if financially well off then why bother?
I was about to start listing items for sale again, I'm trying to clear out my life of possessions because Yes, I do need the money and also because I'd like to make life a little easier for my family to cope with when I pop my clogs! I also donated a percentage of sales to charities that I think are very worthwhile but undervalued , and in need of help.
I'm really disappointed with eBay, the new rules, I think are going to affect lots of members and most likely eBay's reputation and profits too!

I sold something Sunday and used the balance to pay for the postage so luckily I didn't have to pay out of pocket directly because I literally had £0.00 in my account 😂

I think thousands of us now realise fully that we mean nothing to eBay. No matter who you are, what you sell, how long you’ve been involved, how happy your buyers are, how delighted people are to have found an item they’ve been hoping to get etc etc…you as a small private seller are worthless, unnecessary and frankly, it seems a nuisance.
They say that money and power corrupts and it often appears to be the case…people like Elon Musk and Trump completely lose the plot and turn into wannabe dictators. Ebay appears to have gone the same way. They started as a platform for small private sellers and buyers, fulfilling a need and having a great useful purpose in recycling. They despise that now.
No wonder they’ve dropped to 1 star on Trustpilot…nobody trusts them in any way.

Ebay have effectively alienated any person wanting to sell something because they are short of money by withholding the postage part of the payment.

Which is not necessarily a bad thing given the risks.

When the new postage costs from RM start, there’ll be even more people leaving!
Letter 100g £1.70/87p
Large Letter 100g £3.15/£1.55
250g £3.60/£2.00
500g £3.60/£2.40
750g £3.60/£2.70
Small Parcel 2kg £4.99/£3.90
Medium Parcel 2kg £7.19/£6.29
10kg £8.99/£7.89
20kg £13.69/£11.89

Those are prices if bought from a Post Office over the counter, online prices for everything above LL 100g are lower and tracked 24/48 lower still

I see that RM large letter tracked 2nd goes up to 1kg now still at £2.70

If they are going to stick with this stupid new policy ebay should at least pay out when delivery is confirmed with feedback e.g. I sent a blu ray this week which was too light/cheap for the usual tracking number to be provided. It has been delivered, the buyer has left feedback to confirm but I still have to wait until 16th March to receive payment. This is well out of order.

Any of your items of a value of £10 or less, then feedback will release the payout sooner, within a few days.
Over £10 and with no tracking? Then, yep under this new system it's a 14 day wait for the payout to be released.

well the actual price of this item was under £10 but with postage it was over £10, so that seems equally pointless.

The whole experience is pointless now, but at least i've come to accept it and stopped worrying

The only trouble with sending it 'signed for' is that the same thing can happen.. it can also be marked as not delivered as it's happened to me twice in the last month. Luckily, one person left me a review so contacted ebay and they released the money. Incidentally, ebay could see that it had been delivered on their systems (although on my sales it said it hadn't) so that makes a mockery of the fact that they will release money when its been delivered. The other sale.. I'm still waiting for the 14 days to pass

Plus if feeBay stopped trading we are all in the wind.

I sent an un tracked letter post item (under £10 order) which was safely delivered and positive feedback posted upon receipt. Ebay showed a 14 day hold on my payout so I went on live chat to complain, the agent tried to defend this hold until I sent a copy of the £!0 order policy and requested escalation. The funds were then released immediately and they apologised for the "misunderstanding". A low value experience but the principle is alarming and illustrates the lack of interest in keeping individual traders.

It's possible that you were expecting release a bit too early. Presumably ebay does a regular sweep for feedback and then sets the payment release in progress.
It has to be an automatic system so shouldn't fail, but there will be timing considerations.

I do think one part of the big problem is the inconsistency. Either Customer Services are untrained, partly trained or disinterested. Maybe their systems are not updated or reliable. You can have the same conversation with 3 different people but get a different attitude, support and answer!
The system appears to update a service or layout or process but not for every user at the same time.
Some info on changes or rules or procedures is notified to some customer service staff but not all. Access to current processes seems to be unavailable to some staff. Staff aren’t notified of common problems/ current issues.
This is definitely not the kind of customer service you should expect from a multi billion pound organisation.
I suppose they have got away with it and are still getting away with it.

I agree, this is what I have been doing. After 50 years of marriage we have collected a lot of stuff.
Also do people realise that if they buy something that will cost 87p to send, ebay are charging 2.70.
That's going to nosedive sales.
How can you combine postage for multiple things if you have no idea how much they will weigh until they have been bought?
Another hairbrained idea from idiots sitting in an office with no idea of how anything works.
