The truth of the matter

At approx 5pm this afternoon, the Port of Calais was stormed / invaded by between 70 to 80 migrants. They ran riot throughout the Docks, overwhelming all border force and Port Staff. Some tried to forcibly board ferries that were in the Port at the time, the Captains ordered the Ferry's Hoses to be used to repel the migrants ( this was done successfully ). They also stormed scores of Lorries, hiding in many of them. No french Police were present, except for the handful present on Duty at the Docks; reinforcements arrived too late to do anything. Three lorries were found to contain migrants and were searched ( confirming this fact ). When this is done, the other Lorries have to be waived through, otherwise Ferry sailing are delayed...........therefore, at least 65 Lorries were loaded on the Ferry(s) without being searched ( how many migrants are on those, is anybodies guess ). Contrary to reports, there are between 5000 to 7000 migrants in Calais, waiting with the sole intention of getting into this Country. When they are caught, stowed away on Lorries, they are simply removed by the French Police; taken down the Road and released again. The French are content ( so it would seem ) to just let them stay there, growing in number day by day. This is just to let you know the truth of the matter and it is getting worse each and every day. This is the Europe ( the Friends ) that we are told we are better off being a part of, one for all and all for one; helping each other.........Partners ( I think that's the terminology used ).

Because immigration has no impact on your life, don't assume that that is the case for others.

I don't assume immigration doesn't impact others but I know it doesn't impact many! Yes there was a crisis in Calais, now that actually was a crisis, if only short-lived. I don't agree that multi-culturalism doesn't work, it just doesn't work with all people all of the time, pretty much like nothing does!

If there is so much going on in this country why don't you tell me about it? We have the very sad case of Lee Rigby recently and Stephen Lawrence 20 years ago. Please can you fill me in with all the attrocities that have taken place over the years due to failed multi-culturalism?

Lambsy.....so you think the crisis in Calais was short-lived? There are still over a thousand desperate people, demonstrating on the streets for their human rights, and still intending to try and enter the UK...illegally. So there is nothing short-lived about that crisis.

This is why I asked if you knew what a crisis was?

Crises are deemed to be abrupt negative changes in security, economic, political, societal, or environmental affairs, especially occurring with little or no warning. A testing time or an 'emergency event.

time of great disagreement, confusion or suffering, an extremely difficult or dangerous point in a situation, a moment during a serious illness when there is the possibility of suddenly getting either better or worse, a sudden loss of confidence.

You may notice from the definition that a crisis is a point in time, a moment, and event and generally unexpected. So the event in Calais was indeed a crisis because it was an unexpected event having an abrupt negative effect on security.

Thousands of people have been hanging around in Calais attempting to get to the UK for many years; so hardly an abrupt unexpected event, it is something we have become accustomed to and have well established measures in place to counter!

Now I'm sure the well educated people you speak so well of are quite capable of identifying the difference between a crisis and an on-going issue!

Yes, above you questioned my approach and suggest I'm rude and bossy, however the discussion is about certain crises, events or situations currently or recently encountered. If someone wishes to make claims or statements I am at liberty to question and discuss such things. Asking questions and giving alternative opinions is what discussion is about. Your comment at #13 was relevant; your latest one was not.

You will not find all people in agreement, that is what discussion is all about; discussiong different and perhaps opposing views, and I could aim the same accusations at you about saying what YOU want to hear, but I believe such personal attacks are not appropriate! I prefer to ask questions and discuss and I often find intelligent people happy to answer questions and detail why their view may differ. Have a nice day!

Re: The truth of the matter

Lambsy....of course I know what a crisis is....without looking at a dictionary. As I said before....I had a very good education, like a lot of others on here. I really don't understand why that should merit snide remarks and laughter, to say nothing of insults,
This subject is exactly that....subjective. Obviously you have a totally different take on events taking place in this country...and in Calais. I still maintain that that situation has escalated to a crisis, and remains so. My views are formed totally by what I see around me, and to a certain extent, what I see on TV. You may not see the things that I see, so you have a different opinion.
Only time will tell how this immigration issue will pan out....but I remain very pessimistic about it all. And a lot of others feel exactly the same. But of course, if one says this, one gets accused of 'foaming, spitting out one's dummy, scaremongering' etc. Well....we shall see what happens.

Quick,another Crisis:

Oh,hang on,sorry that was in 2001 !
We have ongoing problems and always will untill the root causes are addressed, you can chuck as much money on border security as you like, just look at the US/Mexican border problems, until you give people hope instead of bombs, the problem will only get worse. The crisis is really in those countries people are fleeing from, and we in the west should shoulder the responsibility for where we have caused these crisises and work towards development not destruction. You bomb them and destroy their country and they try to come here, funny old world isn't it?

Bookhunter....would you like to elaborate and tell us what it was about the sentence that I posted, that made you want to ' laugh out loud'?

Because it was funny, especially the "well educated" part.

Anyway, i've just had a look at the demographics for your constituency, and it says the local population comprises of 97% White British. That doesn't quite tally with your claim here.   As with the case of UKIP's popularity in Clacton, it seems quite a few of those hyping "concerns" about immigration are actually resident in areas where there are very few immigrants.

That's kind of the problem with the "angry mob" mentality, they don't *get* the concept of *evidence* to back up  their claims. Hence, as this thread demonstrates, they tend to be reliant of regurgitating tabloid cliches, unverifiable anecdotes, and the "truth" via a friend of a friend of a friend...

Xenophobes and racists have always existed, and will continue to use any excuse to try and whip up resentment towards Johnny 'Foreigner'. It used to be the Irish, Huguenots, Jews, and Blacks; now favourite scapegoats of the day are Muslims & Eastern Europeans.  It seems any crime by individuals in these groups is immediatly seized upon  as "proof" any given folk devil is a wrong 'un, or that "multiculturalism has failed".  If someone said that Jimmy Saville & peers and the Elm House guest list were proof that "monoculturalism has failed", i'd think they were a bit mad.

The "truth of the matter" is that the UK has always been "multicultural".
