I do take it that the US wish to have US bases in this country,  THAT should be thrashed out to THEM.

Re: I though the USA were our friends.

It is a British myth, that we have a 'SPECIAL' relationship with the US, to them (the US establishment) we are useful idiots (sometimes VERY useful idiots).

We back them constantly in UN votes with no gain to ourselves, in fact a lot of those votes can act against ourselves.

We follow them like poodles into conflicts around the World, but they have left us high and dry, several times in OUR conflicts or even worked against us, like Suez. They didn't help us much in the Falklands conflict either, plenty US run Islands ( a lot of them ex-British, handed over after WWII to pay War debts), stuffed with US Navy & USAF bases on the route South, that could have aided us greatly, we were barred from them.Thats why the Vulcan bombers we used to bomb Stanley Airport, had to fly  all the way there and back from the UK all in one go, being refuelled by British Air tankers (who themselves had to be refuelled)

They still refuse to help us in the UN over the Falklands in case it upsets South American allies

They invaded British territory and overthrew a Government, when they attacked Grenada and put back in place a US lackey political leader.

President Clinton came right out and told a British reporter the truth, when he was interviewed in the White House, asked about the US friends ,with who they had 'special relationships'  He said they had ONLY  2 maybe 3 .

Canada (for obvious reasons),

Israel (for religious reasons and internal US political ones as well).

and maybe Southern Ireland (for Historical reasons)

After the War and with the Iron curtain coming down, we were used as a static Aircraft carrier,to face the Russians and a useful stop off to aid forward troops and forces in Germany. and then a good base for Nuclear  weapons, useful idiots again.

The only reason US Companies & Institutions are here,  is as a base for direct entry into the EU market, in fact loads of them have left here and went to Southern  Ireland.

If you go to the US at the moment, add plenty time to customs/immigration at the busy Airports, budget cuts, can mean 3hr , 4hr or even longer queues when flying into the country. But fly from Ireland and you sail through, with a quick scan of your passport.

If we leave the EU, they will dump us without a thought

They will not be the only ones, the Japanese will cut back their investment if we are no longer in the free trade zone of the EU, as will most foreign companies. They are only here because we are in the EU , these even include German & French companies & Institutions, here for Tax reasons, much to the Ire of their respective governments.

If we leave the EU, the City of London will lose it's importance as a Top Financial & Banking centre. That will move en-mass to Frankfurt

December 2002:  Nissan, the Japanese carmaker, said yesterday that further investment in the UK depends on whether Britain joins the euro....  "The challenge is that Sunderland is producing cars with costs in pounds and most of the revenues in euros, and this is a situation we don't like...."

December 2012: Japanese car maker Nissan is investing £250m at its Sunderland plant and creating around 1,000 new jobs in a show of confidence in the British automotive industry. The investment and jobs are being driven by a new premium model under Nissan’s Infiniti brand, which will be built exclusively at the plant from 2015....

Re: I though the USA were our friends.

Hi everybody!  Speaking as a private individual, I would like to point out that our government is going through massive schizophrenia and grand mal seizures right now.  Our left and right wings have become highly polarized.

I do not know what is truly going on, but the vast majority of Americans everywhere will always stand with the British, and be darned proud of it!!!

I can only bow my head in shame at some of this madness...

Re: I though the USA were our friends.

sounds more like a nudge wink propaganda lie to blag you all into thinking a one off payment of 400 quid each is worth staying with europe for,no chance you will ever see it and if you did you can guarantee 1000 quid out of your pockets.

Staying with europe will just cause hardship for almost everyone, leaving it will just cause hardship for almost everyone ,the choice is who is fit to establish a real working fair world society...I have no idea myself except NOT' Ian Duncan Smith or any shareholder board peson of which he is on and or friends or family of his or their friends or shareholder boards persons they know etc etc etc....then all might be in with a shout at ok 🙂

Re: I though the USA were our friends.

No leaving the EU, isolated and job losses would be huge, its ok for the knuckle dragging benefit loving chavs who have no idea how the world works to vote out, but in real life we need to be integrated with the rest of the EU.

No need for a referendum we vote for a government to take decisons
