why does Ebay persist with using Evri (formerly Hermes)

So every single parcel I have ordered via Ebay has been delivered to a neighbour who is elderly and recovering from cancer.  After the eighth occasion and after going round in circles with an auto-bot clearly intent on avoiding passing me onto a real person, I was finally advised they would ensure it won't happen again. Yet here I am, three mis-delivered items further and Evri, as usual, simply pass the buck to the seller or myself. Ebay, Evri are diabolical so why on earth do you use them? I am no longer shopping on Ebay, it's too unreliable

It is no longer possible even for the seller to choose the carrier, ebay forces sellers to use Evri under its automatic label system, so very annoying.  I will have to switch to selling via Vinted.

Have you disabled Evri?

Re: why does Ebay persist with using Evri (formerly Hermes)

My granddaughter has done the same - she says ebay is too big for its boots - I must say recently our local Evri has been ok since I met the van driver on the street and took him to my house - I am sure the main problems are with the delivery guys who just need to make the drop to keep their money up . Numbered houses in a row are usually well served but anything moe complicated takes too long so the temptation to give it a miss is too great. Just my oponion.

It is not possible to disable Evri unless you are a business seller which I
am not.

Re: why does Ebay persist with using Evri (formerly Hermes)

I'm not sure if Evri have changed their policy or methods but recently I've been watching deliveries being dropped off at homes and not even a curtsy knock or doorbell ring.

Just drop at door, photo, move on.

Last time I checked, that's not a delivery.

Are you saying you do not get the option to disable it, or that disabling it has no effect?

Because as a private seller I still have the option to disable it. As linked to a couple of posts above.

Re: why does Ebay persist with using Evri (formerly Hermes)

There was a video on Youtube about Evri, what it's like working there and
how they deliver parcels, I think he's got the sack from talking about it.
The Hiding In My Room channel. I don't watch most of his stuff as too many
long streams, but he had a shorter video about Evri specifically.

Re: why does Ebay persist with using Evri (formerly Hermes)

So happy to read that I'm not the only one who believes Evri are very bad, not honest don't screen their drivers and quite honestly corrupt. I've had 2 beautiful plants delivered "dead" they were tossed and thrown around and worse they were marked "Fragile Handle with care This side up" and it made no difference. I now ask sellers not to send with Evri and they are happy to oblige as they are having dreadful problems with them. Ebay know all about it but they are not doing anything to change it. I've just about had enough with them now if Ebay listened to its customers they would stop using them immediately. Marion

Re: why does Ebay persist with using Evri (formerly Hermes)

I no longer use ebay because of evri. Evri's idea of delivering a parcel is if no one is in to leave it on the doorstep or on the grass in the garden. When you come to claim evri insist that it was delivered and you don't get a penny back on what you bought because its good enough for ebay. Shame on both of you

Re: why does Ebay persist with using Evri (formerly Hermes)

If people know they are going to be out, use Click & Collect.

If you are buying from a private seller using Simple Delivery who has Evri selected, the buyer can choose the option of having it sent shop-to-shop. This is what I always look out for - it's cheaper, and we don't have to worry about being in.

Re: why does Ebay persist with using Evri (formerly Hermes)

I pay to have something delivered to my door, not have to go to collect it.  Yes, Amazon and RM leave the parcels but at least they are left (never had one go missing), unfortunately some e bay couriers (and ours is one) will not deliver to anywhere they deem unsuitable, i.e. anywhere off the main road.

Re: why does Ebay persist with using Evri (formerly Hermes)

Our courier likes to deliver where everyone can see it but don’t let you know they have delivered (ring the doorbell or knock on the door). One of our neighbours needs them to come past houses round the back (terraced houses with letterboxes round the back) so the courier literally throws it over the hedge where it is not easily seen or ends up damaged.
