how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

Ebay is now forcing me into SD with no custom delivery option

The largest postage offered under SD is 61cm

There seems to be no way to list anything over 61cm and get the correct postage, even if you declare the dimensions in the listing height, width etc

anyone figured out what to do or does ebay just want us to take large items elsewhere?

It would be fantastic, if it still worked.

Can confirm that this workaround has been 'fixed' for me too @edwardian-dreams  ☹️

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

Just to add, whilst the established workaround no longer works, I do still have an 'Oversized' option in package size, for certain categories only.

I guess the only other workaround left is to list oversized items in, shall we say, an 'alternative' category.

My workaround is still working - you must be doing something wrong. FOLLOW IT EXACTLY. The only thing that you can deviate from is the choice of carrier.

The workaround is valid for all categories.

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

I think you're right - you have to select a carrier before changing the price back, sure I didn't have to do that last week.

I suspect that they're still chipping away at these workarounds, and bear in mind that changes are often not applied universally - some accounts appear to get changes before others.

To be honest, in most cases I can work with Simple Delivery - it's a bit cheaper than RM Tracked, and postal loss/damage is far easier to deal with. The big problem for me is being unable to opt out for oversized or 20Kg+ items in many categories.

You have to set over-weight and size as well by refreshing. Changing the price back is the last thing to do.

I've used the workaround before, I'm sure it previously allowed me to restore the price before setting a carrier.

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

It has never worked that way as resetting the price before you have completed everything else immediately kicks simpleton delivery back in.

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

I'll bow to your greater experience, as I mostly use Simple now, but I'm sure something has altered recently for me.

I don't get all the hate for Simple Delivery, as it stands now. I agree that it's restrictive and quite possibly anti competitive, and obviously not suitable for everything. However, for the majority of stuff, sub-£100 parcels are mostly a bit cheaper than using RM Tracked directly, and claims for loss/damage are far less onerous than claiming from RM directly.

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

I wonder if you list an item as oversized such as in this scenario, if it then affects the GSP shipping price/availability.

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

I have tried this for my items that are listed for 99p starting bid and are max. 100g large letter size, but when you change the starting price back to 99p, the postage changes back to simple delivery.

Ebay says that simple delivery is optional for items under £10, letter size.

There is no option to choose 'Letter size' in any case. The smallest size is 'large letter'.

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

Did you follow the workaround exactly? It works for the small items just as well. Make sure that you keep the overweight and oversize in the boxes, don't drop it down. It becomes irrelevant once you have selected your own carrier/postage method.

Thanks! I managed to get it to work after a bit of time trying to get the oversized box to appear.

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

evri take parcels upto 120cm, its stated at label stage upon sale of goods. Providing that is evri is ticked as courier. Also ticking both couriers reduces price. SD offers full tracking and protection, go outside that and the fight for loses are yours! from experience offering free posting is just asking for problems, too many posting options and weight bands. SD is set by ebay and providing you select right size and weight there should be no issues.

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

So in the advent of simple delivery, I am not adverse to the concept of simplicity in itself, quite the contrary. Restricting someone’s human rights to use a postage stamp, on the other hand, is the sort of oppression that makes me want to rebel and protest, albeit it quietly, as I’m not brave enough when it comes to things over which I could be at risk of losing my account.

In response to an earlier comment, unfortunately I can’t see anything in the EBay new simple delivery box called advanced settings and if I could, I suspect it more than likely would prove to be a little too advanced for me, but if it was there, I would give it a go, as it does sound promising.

My reason for being put out by the introduction of simple delivery is that I am in the position of having  a lot of postage stamps I purchased to use up that I will otherwise take to the grave, along with all the items I would have failed to clear out as I would not have be able to use my stamps to sell them. This is the simplest of ideas I admit:

Avoiding simple delivery

•List item as £9.99 and put the price difference in the postage

•List item as large letter parcel size

•Write a sentence explaining to potential buyer why it’s priced in this bizarre manner in the description. Copy and paste this sentence for future listings.

The item size is given in the listing so l don’t know if it’s then that important that the parcel size is silly or if anyone would even notice it or consider for more than a moment that not everything is as flat as a pancake. The thought of every item on EBay being £9.99 if everyone did the same could be a cause for some amusement at the ridiculous steps a seller is now driven to. Is anyone else in a similar position with a stock of postage stamps they somehow need to use up?

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

Hi. I'm having same problem as other user. Can't get to change the parcel size to large. I just noted eBay has new app version...they seemed to have simplified it like vinted, but oversimplified. I am not even getting to define the product size, it is picking automatically the standard option. Please advise

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

I think this is all because eBay is trying to match the short process of vinted.  But eBay upload process was already simple and had custom options, now nothing....so frustrating

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

one key point of sd is that ebay address any losses.

If your goods are lost or damaged then you will get a full refund.

outside sd and the fight is yours with courier. Only you know how much time and money, phone calls, you want to waste trying to contact these couriers and then supply receipts? Over 6 months my relative waited with one courier and lost much when rm said used goods not covered. Then there is the term many use, "goods not covered when payment going through a third party".

evri do take parcels upto 120cm long and 15kg under the sd.

Re: how do you list anything bigger than 61cm?

The only reason ebay charge a buyer protection fee is because they make a small fortune with it.

I have been in business 40 years and never had a goods in transit or postage insurance set up and even if they lost a £5000 item tomorrow i would be quid's in on the insurance i have saved.

Thats how insurance companies work and make fortunes.
