I've just relisted a bunch of items. Naturally, ebay have automatically changed my custom shipping to 'simple' (anything but), even though 90% of them are still eligible for custom postage.
So, I go to edit some of them & every single one of them - before I change a thing on the listing - wants to charge me 35p to revise it!
What gives? I had no such problems yesterday.

It's probably safer to say it's 'working as intended'. There's money to be made from such system 'features' and Random Charges may be a Profit Centre all of its own?

What would be funny is if the whole SD tracking meltdown diversion was a cover for Ebay secretly emptying several thousand sellers' bank accounts? AI may soon be on hand to ensure you're always looking entirely the wrong way? 😉

Hello Kat. Any update. Bulk revision has a charge of £13 before I even click on edit.
I have loads of work to do but stuck in loop.

Hi @hugothecockapoo ,
Tech are working on it to resolve as soon as possible. While we don't have a timeframe on it once tech provides an update on the fix I will update the thread.
Thank you,
Kat

I think the problem has now been fixed as I have managed to revise my active listings into the correct shop categories without being charged 12p each time. I phoned eBay again yesterday regarding the refunding of all fees that have wrongly been charged and I am still confused. EBay have potentially profited vast amounts of money and without making a statement or refunding all transactions they are opening the door to this happening again. I have lost confidence in my transactions and now need to check every figure coming out before I submit my accounts. If eBay want to win back the trust in customers I strongly recommend they refund everyone affected by this glitch. I realise eBay could still be working on this and it may well still happen but by saying nothing it has not helped winning back the trust people have lost in recent times . I will watch with interest however the way EBay have been operating lately I do not have much confidence in this happening.

It was eBay's technical fault resulting in these charges, so yes, if the seller's contact eBay Customer Services, they'll refund any excess fees paid.

I have not found this to be the case. On every occasion I have phoned eBay I have been told they can not refund me over the phone. The problem is there are so many wrong transactions that I am not sure they know how to fix it.

You've spoken then to the wrong CS agent. Unfortunately, it can happen, and does so frequently, get an agent who perhaps has only a scripted answer in front of them, and they will relay incorrect information.
When I was selling, an eBay glitch placed some unwarranted fees I never selected on my account. I called CS, and they refunded those excess fees, but I did speak to Dublin. Being a Call Back option, you can hear if it's the dulcet tones of the Emerald Isles!
If this has affected you call CS but only at 8 a.m. on weekdays, when there's more chance of Dublin answering, only speak to them. Use link below:

Many thanks for your help I greatly appreciate it. However I do feel it’s wrong that you have to phone back and fight for a refund. Does that mean anyone that does not phone EBay just keep their money. Without making a statement it’s very clear that this is a very lucrative moneymaking operation for eBay. I am not saying it’s intentional but the door is now open to this happening again.

I also do have a ticket number which I did I do have a ticket number which I did supply but still no refund.

Yep, cannot disagree that it shouldn't need a call to receive a refund for erroneous fees charged. Who knows, as this was a tech issue affecting many, perhaps refunds are automatically made? 🤔
Keep a checkin' your account if the refund is not appearing , then give ' em a call !

"as this was a tech issue affecting many, perhaps refunds are automatically made?"
I doubt it. That would be like leaving cash in the ATM, walking away and expecting the bank to refund your account? It's simply not gonna happen. You have to go back and beg and fill in a claim form just to stand a chance.
We've seen with all the new and random charges Ebay seem to be making these days, promotion fees debited twice, charges for updates, un-refundable SD labels, etc. Sadly, users have to fight for every penny, even and especially when it's owed to them.

In my case it was 24p. I think like, most people on Ebay going through the hassle of phoning Ebay and trying to get them to refund the money, will cost more money in my time wasted, than the actual glitch. Although it is annoying that Ebay's potentially made £1,000s of a glitch. Despite that at least it's not as bad as Amazon over there glitches never get fixed.

Just to clarify, when the ATM thing happened to me I realised after about 30 seconds, there was nobody else about and luckily the branch was open. So I went inside and said the machine had just swallowed my cash.
I did get the money refunded to the account after about 5 days but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have got it back unless I'd done that.

I am wondering if eBay are tinkering (again!) and in the future they may start charging to revise a current listing? Why would they be messing around with the code otherwise?
Revise a Listing
You can usually make changes to your eBay listings, but there are some restrictions depending on what you want to change and when. There's no fee to revise a listing unless you add a special feature.
If it's against policy to charge for revising a listing where there is no added feature you would think that it would be an automatic refund? But am I living in cloud cuckooland?
09-08-2025 9:49 AM
That makes sense, as I can see sellers being charged (or fined?) for re-setting their listing back to how it was before Ebay deliberately changed it. As with imposing SD postage?
I'd never thought of custom postage as a 'special feature' before but these are just words to be played with.

Sadly we are living in an era that rewards failure. to many big companies are a complete shambles but are making vast amounts of money for supressing the people at the bottom. If Ebay are going to continue to hide and capitalise on this glitch then maybe everyone including myself should seriously consider if it is worth containing to sell through Ebay.
