I've just relisted a bunch of items. Naturally, ebay have automatically changed my custom shipping to 'simple' (anything but), even though 90% of them are still eligible for custom postage.
So, I go to edit some of them & every single one of them - before I change a thing on the listing - wants to charge me 35p to revise it!
What gives? I had no such problems yesterday.

It sounds like you have used up your free listing allowance and are being charged 35p for every listing over it.

What does it state your monthly limits are in your seller hub?

Yes,these new listings used the last of my free listings for the month, but that shouldn't stop me editing them or old listings without being charged should it?
It never has before.

It depends whether the edit counts as the listing being manually relisted (eBay's emphasis not mine):
"Relists and renewals: When your existing listings are automatically renewed or relisted, we don't charge the listing fee again, and the renewal or relist won't count against your free listings allocation. If you choose to manually relist your item, it'll count against your free listings allocation, or we'll charge a listing fee if you've used up your monthly allocation"

No. A manual relist is a manual relist. That takes one of my free listings. Fine & dandy.
But EDITING an existing listing should not cost me a penny (unless I'm adding something like a second category or a subtitle), & most of my old listings are free to edit. It's just the ones listed in the last 24 hours that are a problem.

Probably not surprised it is Ebay these days, but like you say if your adding a second category thats one thing.....but if your just editing its not a relist cause its already listed, not come across it yet but something worth looking out for

Someone else is reporting the same thing over here
With all the changes going on at the moment my guess is it's probably a glitch.
Is it doing it when you edit the listings one by one or in the bulk listing tool or both?
31-07-2025 12:02 PM
Both. 😞
Had a long chat with the help desk. They didn't seem to know what was happening either & said they'd get back to me. 48 hours later.... nothing.
We'll see if anything changes when the new month rolls over tomorrow.

How nice it must be to get free relistings...

I can report the same issue.
Oddly enough I got charged £0.12 for adding to the title of a listing. But oddly enough it doesn't seem to be happening with all listings. Tested it randomly with a couple of listings and it seems to come up with a fee to edit on some listings and others it doesn't. If this is a glitch I hope they fix it ASAP as my shop fee has just renewed and the last thing I want is to be charged £0.12 for every single renewal.

ive just had this as made a spelling mistake went to change and it wanted me to to pay 12p to change it.i went through a few and the ones ending soonest were free as normal but the newer listed stuff costs 12p to change.

I just phones support about this issue, to explain that there was a glitch and I got nowhere. Went around in circles for 10 minutes trying to explain that an insertion fee should not be charged on editing an item. She didn't seem to want to pass me over to someone in tech and kept explaining that every time I'm editing an item, I'm renewing and get charged an insertion fee. In the end I ended the call. I just don't have time to be stuck in a loop with Ebay support. I hope someone else has success. She sounded a nice women, but the first time I've never had success with an Ebay representative.

same thing here 12p listing fee..

just tried again and it was free guess it was a 1st of the month thing

Same thing happening to me since 23.07.2025 - £0.35 charged on any revisions such as correcting a spelling mistake, adding a photo or adding/changing a shipping method for an existing listing. Only tried to edit an existing listing not listed a new item:
Not listed on ebay.com
Not listed in two categories
Not listed as a special duration
Did not add a subtitle, was not listing in multiple categories, or setting a reserve price will incur additional fees
According to the following ebay guidelines:
However, the above implies that the revised listing is no longer qualifies under the terms of promotion, i.e. a second category was added, a subtitle was added, or a duration of a listing was changed. This was not the case as correcting a spelling mistake, adding a photo, adding a shipping method should not attract a fee to an existing listing.
But apparently it does now.

Weirdly, from today it allowed me to edit anything from my phone with no charges, but not on my computer. Unfortunately whenever I edit anything on my phone I lose all my carefully formatted layouts & my descriptions become one big block of text.
I tried deleting the cookies & cache on my computer & that did let me edit some of them without charges.
Gave up on the rest & just ended them & manually relisted each one with the correct postage. Bit of a waste of my free listings for the month (& couple of hours of my time), but hey.
Needless to say, ebay still haven't got back to me, or sent me a transcript of our chat from a few days ago...

Actually it seems to be a glitch that's been reported numerous times throughout the years: 4 years ago https://community.ebay.com/t5/Report-eBay-Technical-Issues/Insertion-fee-for-revising-an-item/td-p/3... 7 years ago https://www.reddit.com/r/Ebay/comments/889kd6/being_charged_an_insertion_fee_to_edit_or_revise/
From Ebay's own help page:
"You can revise your listings any time in My eBay....What changes can I make? For most listings on eBay, you can edit a listing title, add or change photos, and add optional listing upgrades at any time
For fixed price (Buy It Now) listings and auction listings with more than 12 hours left and no bids, you can lower the price...."
The system is seems to be recognising each edit as a new listing and subsequently charging an insertion fee for some reason, as I said previously it only shows up on certain listings. It would nice to get a response from tech, but I doubt that's going to happen.

If ebay gets back to you, I found more guidelines on the revisions:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/listings/creating-managing-listings/revising-listing?id=4356
'You can usually make changes to your eBay listings, but there are some restrictions depending on what you want to change and when. There's no fee to revise a listing unless you add a special feature.'
Contrary to the above I am charged £0.35 even if I click revise and then save without actually making any changes.

Yes, thank you for posting these. Ebay representatives did not see it as a glitch and referred me to the following:
Their interpretation of the above is that if you use your listing allowance then any revisions will be charged. However, this is not consistent with the below:
