Has anyone had dealings with this buyer?

Bought a Sonos Bluetooth speaker from me. Sent by royal mail tracked 48 and have photographic proof of delivery. Still showing as he hasn't received the item. I believe he has bought items under a different name and scammed sellers as reported under Reddit. E Bay saying no rules have been broken so far. Any advice appreciated.

If Royal Mail's website shows the item was delivered you are covered if the buyer opens an "item not received" case. You just need to ensure the tracking number is entered into any case the buyer should open.

Where is it showing this; in eBay's progress bar in the order details? That is often buggy and sometimes lags behind what the carrier's tracking shows.

How would you know it is the same user if they are using different eBay IDs? Unless the delivery address being reported is exactly the same I have no idea how you came to that belief.

Oh, I see it now.

I really don't understand why eBay have allowed this user to continue doing what they do for so long. There are just no words.

They'd rather sanitise the thread than deal with this blatant act of criminality.

Re: User

For the benefit of those reading this thread post-sanitisation (I'll keep it within the board rules):

The buyer who purchased from the OP is the same buyer being mentioned in @the-layer-laboratory's earlier post. For the last year at least their modus operandi has been purchasing (mainly tech) items then claiming INR if the item has no tracking or INAD if it does. If the seller sends a return label they send a different (worthless) item back.

So for over a year this business has been opening multiple INR and INAD claims to defraud sellers using several different accounts to do so. They actually purchased from the OP using a business account with the business's address, VAT and company registration numbers visible. I'm slightly surprised Action Fraud haven't involved this "buyer's" local police force yet; I'm sure AF will have already received many complaints. I'm slightly less surprised they haven't had their local Trading Standards office knocking at the door with a battering ram ready in case there's no answer. However, I'm absolutely astonished eBay have seemingly done nothing at all. It really should be glaringly obvious this user is a scammer who is out to defraud and a trivial matter for eBay to link and permanently ban all their accounts; eBay's failure to do so is making them look complicit.

Do eBay really reserve all their sticks for sellers?

This guy has ripped off a lot of people, he bought an item off me this morning, but because I checked out "topbuyuk" within 10 mins found all the sordid criminality.....cancelled the order straight away and banned him....

Re: User

Makes you wonder how many INR'S you can actually open before eBay pull their finger out and do something!

Re: User

I am literally getting scammed as we speak! Posted a camera to him/them just under 4 weeks ago.  Last night he opened a returns case to send it back as he had a picture of the camera with a broken screen and a bulge in the glass screen as well. The camera was bubble wrapped put in side a well padded camera carry case and in a box, I sell a lot of cameras and I don't think I will be getting the camera I sent out back it will probably be a different camera after reading and researching this buyer online so much info out there on them and the scams they are pulling off!

I will update when I receive the camera back.

I note you have the serial number recorded in one of your pictures so you will know for certain whether it is the same camera you receive back or not.

If they do send a different camera back there is a process you need to follow that should mean you don't end up out of pocket. I really am flabbergasted that eBay hasn't linked all this user's accounts and permanently restricted them all for being "a risk to the eBay community".

Re: User

Hi,

Yes serial number is pictured 🙂

If it is a different camera also not mentioned the 2 x battery's SD Card Charger and other accessories that went out with it, I will be contacting Action Fraud first to get a crime number before taking it up with Ebay!

Re: User

Hi all. He is running the same scam on us now, claiming we have sent him a damaged camera. Luckily we have extra pictures and videos of the camera before we sent it. Let’s see if it’s the same camera or in the same condition. How is he still allowed to operate? And he doesn’t have one ounce of negative feedback?

Do you have the camera's unique serial number recorded or pictured?

Because eBay are allowing him to.

Sellers can only leave positive feedback for buyers. This operation has accounts that are only used for buying/stealing therefore those accounts only have positive feedback. They have a separate account which they use for selling which has some negative but mostly positive feedback.

Re: User

Yes we have the original serial number etc. We also sent it extremely well packaged and have never had issues before with our packaging.

Will update whether he sends back the same camera, and whether it is in the same condition.

Is there nothing we can do to stop these scams from happening to future sellers?

The process to follow if they send back a different camera involves filing a report with Action Fraud then following a few specific steps in the eBay return process. This means he will be reported to the police and eBay with eBay knowing a crime has been reported. I don't know what sort of internal threshold eBay has before they will actually do anything about this user but you would expect in cases like this for the threshold to be quite low.

As mentioned they have a selling account that on the face of it looks reputable. However, eBay should not be complicit in their activities; by not NARU'ing their accounts they are making themselves appear to be.

Re: User

E bay don't seem to want to know despite all the mentions of him being a scammer on here. I messaged the guy myself and told him I was fully aware I was part of a scam and that I would be in touch with Action Fraud if he decided he wanted to send the item back - seemed to work. It is impossible to actually talk to someone on e bay, even the phone number directs you to the website. Shan't be selling anything else on here.

Re: User

I should have the camera back today possibly! he waited until the last moment to return it! I think he thought I would just refund him and let him bin the camera. I have had no contact with him I'm remaining quiet and then I will take action as soon as I have inspected the item and accessories.

My cameras are also packed to an over the top standard so there is no way it was damaged in transit.

Re: User

Not sure why a mod felt the need to delete my reply... This buyer has tried to scam me, I had to phone eBay every day for a week to get my money back. If you Google him there's posts all over the place where he's been doing it for years. eBay protecting him is one of the reasons I stopped selling on here.
