The new when we get paid rules from February.

Ebay was always heavily weighted in favour of the Buyers, but this new mad rule thats coming in next month about having to wait two days after delivery is confirmed to get paid is simply beyond the pale.

And sometimes delivery conformation never comes, apparently in that situation we have to wait 14 days to get our money.

This is disgusting and completely nuts. A self-destructive move from Ebay.

Does this help at all?

We’re revising the Payments Terms of Use to better describe the payment services we provide to you. As part of this revision, we have clarified which payment options are typically made available to buyers on the eBay website. Further, the terms related to settlement and availability of funds have been revised for sellers residing in regions outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.

These changes are hidden away in Section VI. 3, which applies to ECUK (eBay Commerce UK Ltd).

The Post office definitely does not show all items as delivered on ebay system even when they have been delivered and even been left a positive , then you have to enquire to get paid ( time spent ) if buyer says they have not received item then Good Luck with getting paid if theres a fault in Post Office system and you will never know ( this happens ) . You definitely do not get all your items returned to you after its not been delivered , some get destroyed or sold off by auction , if you have a torn return label for instance or items not signed for or collected , the buyer might of even changed there mind , thats why Post Office stopped C.O.D Cash On Delivery years ago . Everything will be weighted on seller . If you have an expensive item to post say a £250 Watch or lots more £s item you dont use , your a lot braver than me posting it hoping to get paid later , thats without any problems and it goes smoothly , look at how many times ebay puts a note ( something wrong with delivery address ) or buyer cannot even put there own address correctly . I just cannot see a lot of Sellers want to or be able to do this or funding the postage until they get paid , your going to be selling on account / deferred payment , theres too much to go wrong for You the Seller . Last time i ordered anything off anyone i paid for it and they had there money before sending it out , Dont forget many private sellers use there money to buy off business sellers and might not in the future because there not selling anymore , whats to stop Ebay not applying this system to business sellers later ( nothing ) and its there right to but i think for Ebay this is all self destructive , its not comforting Ebay will have 24hr support it tells me of expected problems , Any seller who has not lost a decent amount of money in the past on an item soon will . Place Your Bets and Bite your fingernails .

no i do not combine shipping.  I have done it once or twice in the past when approached by a buyer but i actually get very few sales and pretty spread out and i actually keep an eye out to see if someone is bidding on more than one item within the weeks auction.   I have always done this as a pastime/hobby so am not bothered about making a profit, the family members who i do this for also give me free reign, they would give to charity shops or throw away because none of them want to mess around with e bay or car boots.  The small amounts mount up and i give them the money once or twice a year.

Hi, you make an excellent point - if they are withholding a sellers cash and then using it to generate interest while that cash is in their possession surely that profit belongs to the seller.

@lovecraft95  per the eBay Payments Terms of Use:

"The balance on your payment account is not a deposit. You will not receive interest or any other earnings on the money held in your payment account."

eBay's terms "You will not receive interest or any other earnings on the money held in your payment account."

So who does receive the interest?! On up to 14 days' worth, sitewide and across all the applicable transactions, that's a lot of money.

Interesting as businesses can have what is known as a " client account?" Some may call it " Unknown funds or deposits "  or " client/customer  overpayments"  ..  These are accounts whereby funds/overpayments are placed and do belong to the " customer "... a bit like utilities companies hold overpayments until you ask for them back is a more simple explanation, but big banking institutions actually have them too ,they are not supposed to be included on their business " accounting books"  as such ( profit/loss) as technically they are not "income", but they can gain interest.

I am wondering how eBay are " managing" their " customers" held funds and what type of account they are holding them in?  Particularly as " pending" funds can be accessed to only purchase eBay postage labels or refunds?

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, something is about to hit the fan next month, isn’t it.

I’m taking it all with a pinch of salt and trying to stay open minded. But it just sounds like a farce. EBay are really expecting everyone to be honest law abiding goody toshoes. No chance. Yeah a lot of people are excellent and very honest but there are plenty out there who aren’t who are definitely going to use this change to their advantage while leaving people out of pocket. And simple delivery, well I’ve just started reading into it and already I’m uncomfortable with it. Because no thank you, I don’t mind handling the shipping myself. It’s not a one size fits all, never is. I don’t need eBay telling me what an item should weigh and how to ship it.  Before it’s been sold.

For some people. I can see it being beneficial to a degree to have it all streamlined for those who are well connected and have everything near them at their fingertips. Alas, it’s not for me because where I live my nearest post office and parcel locker and sorting office is a 30 minute bus ride there and back so about an hour total and I know of only one parcel postbox near me which is even further as the nearest parcel postbox is 2 bus rides and it is a long bus journey to get to. So I arrange everything from home as I don’t drive and the bus service is only one bus that’s not very reliable. Most stuff like cds, dvds and small books I can drop into the postbox across the road from me, and anything larger or bulky I use the Royal Mail collection and that suits me fine. Because I have been doing it this way for years and I have established a comfortable and reliable method for preparing, labelling and dispatch.
Now I’m being told to toss it all out the window and let eBay handle it all. Not on your Nelly. Look I can see some benefits here and there but this isn’t the way to go forward. Why do they expect us to sell it for free and then hope we get paid for it? What to stop someone from buying and scamming me. Well I can already feel the deck tilting but I’m not going to a lifeboat just yet because there is still a month until I have to make the drastic decision to stay onboard or jump off the sinking ship before it takes me under with it. Oh dear, oh dear, oh, dear, it’s going to be a bumpy ride from here on out

@insidethe93 the Payments Terms of Use also state that funds may be combined in pooled accounts and invested, that you as the seller do not have any ownership interest in those investments, and any interest earned from these investments shall be retained by eBay.

The same for reserve funds then...

Nice... for eBay.. and this is how they will attract more investors for their "stakeholder capitalism"...

I'm off. eBay was easy once. I'm not going to get hit by scammers and this makes it easy for them. I'll make more at a bootfair and less hassle and no emails to and from eBay.

Makes it a joke now. To much now, I'd need a secretary to deal with administration and this farce intended. I'm off!

I just withdrew my balance and it showed in my bank immediately. I wonder if it will somehow take longer after 4th February.

I think transferring from your balance to your bank will remain unchanged, Ebay will collect payment from the buyer for any sale you have but the money will not actually go into your balance until a few days after the delivery of the item is confirmed. Therefore it is when the money will appear in your balance that will change.

Downright theft to withhold someones money that doesn't belong to you against their will.

'Downright theft to withhold someones money that doesn't belong to you against their will.'

Yes, it feels totally wrong and even immoral.

BUT, ebay can do whatever they want as long as it is legal (and it will be legal: ebay are a mega-corps with mega lawyers who will be able to make sure they don't get sued)

We have all agreed to let ebay do whatever they want, by 'agreeing' to the latest terms-and-conditions.

We all agreed to this simply by *using* ebay. We didn't have to tick any boxes.

I do this all the time. But I have had 2 out of all 10 items that were tracked, not show up as delivered.
