The new when we get paid rules from February.

Ebay was always heavily weighted in favour of the Buyers, but this new mad rule thats coming in next month about having to wait two days after delivery is confirmed to get paid is simply beyond the pale.

And sometimes delivery conformation never comes, apparently in that situation we have to wait 14 days to get our money.

This is disgusting and completely nuts. A self-destructive move from Ebay.

It is 2 days wait on V site or quicker if buyer clicks that all is ok. It will encourage any business operating incorrectly on a private account to upgrade. This change along with the forced simple delivery and buyer facing fees the site is becoming increasingly off putting.

I do not mind waiting to be paid as i never touch the money until i can be reasonably sure the item has arrived and the buyer is happy with it. It is the managed delivery that will finish things for me.

exactly how i feel (and probably many other people as well)!   I will miss my selling on e bay but that is what is going to happen unless they have a seismic change of mind and i cannot see that happening.  I would rather pay the fees again than be dictated to about delivery.

Selling on Ebay as a private seller is fast becoming a non entity, they appear to want everyone on business accounts, Goodness know how this will work, I couldn't find a full explanation, how exactly do they confirm delivery, I always send Royal Mail 48-hour but it doesn't always confirm delivery, they are also charging the buyer a fee, but it will be included in the listing cost, hence making the item more expensive, how would this even work on Auction, as per usual explaining how these things are going to work are not Ebays priority.

Simple Delivery was my main concern but you WILL be able to opt out when you create your listings.

Use the link and look at the FAQs.

that is the current simple delivery.  According to the CEO last year it will be made mandatory in the first quarter of 2025 (no definite time slot).   That will be when i go.

  • For untracked deliveries, or tracked deliveries with no delivery confirmation signal, funds will be available 14 days from the order date.

How is this fee calculated for Auctions when the final selling price is unknown?

When you enter a starting bid, the Buyer Protection fee is added so you can see what the buyer’s minimum bid amount will be. As the Buyer Protection fee is variable, the fee amount that the buyer actually pays is calculated as part of the final auction selling price.

Ok I’m going to try and keep open minded but this has me worried as it’s rare if at all that I get delivery confirmation, I suppose the only sure way to get paid is to make sure every order is sent tracked with confirmation upon delivery.

but I still have a bad feeling about this change.

I’ve used eBay almost since the start, mainly buying for my collection. That will now end. I’m now in my mid 70s and using eBay to move on my collection before the grim reaper comes for me but this new system will put an end to that too. But there are plenty of other more user friendly sites to choose from and eBay will also be the looser, I’m one of the few of my friends still using eBay, the rest have gone elsewhere. The CEO must need his head seen too if he thinks this is the way forward. Another wiz kid with lots of qualification, a big mouth to match an equally large ego but common sense, all the tools but none of the techniques !

I'll no longer be selling any high value items and may just stop selling on eBay totally.  This new system will be even more opportunity for scammers to get items delivered and end up not paying for them.  Bye eBay it was good while it lasted.

@jckl1957  - just to clarify, eBay has not yet updated their policy pages or made a public announcement, but Simple Delivery being mandatory for private sales of eligible items at some point this quarter has been explicitly stated as something which is definitely happening by CEO Jamie Iannone.

Simple Delivery started as an "opt in" feature first in clothing and then expanding to other categories, meaning by default the listing page did not have it selected and sellers had to actively and intentionally choose to opt in to it during the listing process.

Then in Q4, eBay started making it "opt out",  meaning the listing process was changed to use Simple Delivery by default, and sellers who did not want to use had to actively and intentionally choose to opt out.

Of course many new or inexperienced sellers will just go with the default that is presented to them and may not even realize they could opt out. Also, my understanding is this change to make it the default is/was a phased rollout so not everyone may have seen it at the same time and it may continue on through the next month or so.

Then, according to Iannone, sometime in Q1 2025 it will become mandatory for private sellers to use Simple Delivery on all eligible items.

Like I said, eBay has not made any public announcements to sellers about it or updated their policy pages yet, but contrary to what eBay community staff have said in the weekly chat, statements made by the CEO of a publicly traded company during earnings calls are in fact "official comms" and should be taken as such by both investors and the company's customer-base unless/until additional "official comms" to the contrary are made publicly available.

https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Chat-with-the-eBay-Community/Weekly-Chat-with-the-eBay-Community-Tea...

Here's what he said on the Q3 2024 earnings call at the end of October, and for additional background this was part of his prepared remarks, not an off the cuff answer to analysts in the Q&A segment - which means this part of the presentation would have been scripted in advance and reviewed by legal, compliance, investor relations and other relevant internal stakeholders before the call.

For those who may not be familiar, C2C means consumer to consumer which is another way to say private sellers.

https://seekingalpha.com/article/4731184-ebay-inc-ebay-q3-2024-earnings-call-transcript

With managed shipping, we are completely overhauling our shipping experience for C2C sellers in the UK in two phases. The first phase completed in early October, extended the simplified shipping experience we first rolled out in pre-owned apparel to all categories. Within the new native listing flow, UK C2C sellers now see a consolidated list of shipping options based on the estimated package size and weight. And since implementing this change, we have observed a significant reduction in time spent on shipping in a listing flow.

The second phase of managed shipping; radically simplifies the experience and creates a new revenue stream for eBay. Similar to managed payments and eBay international shipping, Managed shipping leverages our scale and expertise to create a better experience for customers while generating incremental revenue and operating income dollars. When listing eligible products sellers simply confirm the pre-selected package size and eBay handles the rest.

Buyers received competitive shipping rates and sellers are fully protected against loss or damage. Managed shipping is currently live for C2C pre-owned apparel listing in the UK. In Q4, we plan to expand managed shipping horizontally on an opt-out basis, before mandating the program for eligible items listed by C2C sellers during Q1 of 2025.

The above statement is all that has currently been made public about eBay's plans to make Simple Delivery mandatory for private sellers and understandably sellers have a lot of questions about how exactly it's going to work.

I don't have any inside info or special insights, but my fairly educated guess is at least initially the program will likely stay pretty much the same as it is currently as far as item eligibility, carrier availability, seller protection and other terms and policies but eBay will just remove the ability for private sellers to opt out from the listing flow.

Given that likelihood, I strongly encourage all private sellers who plan on continuing to sell here in 2025 to read the current FAQs and policy pages for Simple Delivery to be prepared for what is coming.

....the perfect inflation scheme which also forces a price rise on the buyer. Absolute scam creating scheme. Sell what you can by February then leave. There is life without ebay. Seller will also absolutely have to use a signed for delivery service to avoid being scammed.

This time ebay definitely trying to instigate its own downfall. This will be the last straw for most private sellers so either ebay doesn't need them or it has just signed its own death warrant. Or maybe they have an algorithm that shows every time their greed outstrips customer value we all complain but carry on regardless. But this is likely the final straw when the penny drops and it will be the end of privae sellers ebay. Luckily there are now more and often better services available so goodbye ebay.

My biggest issue with Simple delivery is that there is a maximum 3 business day handling time. All my items are made to order and subject to a 5 day lead time.
The 'buyer protection fee' is just ebay flipping the final value fees onto the consumer. on a cheap item this represents a huge 'Tax' on the sale due to ebay. a £4.99 'free shipping' item will now incur an additional 21% (£1.09) fee that ebay will collect from the buyer. where they used to deduct 19% £0.95 from the seller payout.
That's going to be the end of 'free shipping', buyers won't like that, even though we all know it was just a higher price that includes the shipping cost

Simple delivery is crazy. I regularly sell boxed items and oversize the postage box to ensure the contents are well protected how does simple shipping account for things like that?
