The new when we get paid rules from February.

Ebay was always heavily weighted in favour of the Buyers, but this new mad rule thats coming in next month about having to wait two days after delivery is confirmed to get paid is simply beyond the pale.

And sometimes delivery conformation never comes, apparently in that situation we have to wait 14 days to get our money.

This is disgusting and completely nuts. A self-destructive move from Ebay.

Simple delivery is crazy. I regularly sell boxed items and oversize the postage box to ensure the contents are well protected how does simple shipping account for things like that?

You will have to input the size and weight of the parcel when you list to ensure the correct postage is paid.

That's annoying I box stuff up after I sell it. Like everyone else if I can't get on board with these changes I'll just stop selling stuff

My biggest issue with Simple delivery is that there is a maximum 3 business day handling time. All my items are made to order and subject to a 5 day lead time.
The 'buyer protection fee' is just ebay flipping the final value fees onto the consumer. on a cheap item this represents a huge 'Tax' on the sale due to ebay. a £4.99 'free shipping' item will now incur an additional 21% (£1.09) fee that ebay will collect from the buyer. where they used to deduct 19% £0.95 from the seller payout.
That's going to be the end of 'free shipping', buyers won't like that, even though we all know it was just a higher price that includes the shipping cost

if you are making items to sell you are not a private seller and should be registered as a business. So these changes will not apply to you once you have upgraded your account to trade legally.

@must_rock  @buffster1963  - you'll want to carefully consider whether or not you should enter your own size and weight information after fully reading all the FAQs/terms and conditions for Simple Delivery.

Specifically, I'd suggest looking at the part about what happens if the carrier says the package size/weight is different than what is on the label and there is additional postage due.

With Simple Delivery, eBay will automatically estimate the size/weight based on item details. If they are not able to determine that information or if you believe their estimate is wrong, you do have the option of entering your own information.

If  the carrier says it's wrong - you won't be liable for the difference if you used eBay's estimate, but will be liable for the difference if you entered your own weight and dimensions.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sellercentre/postage/simple-delivery

Can I adjust the size and weight details of my item?

If we're unable to determine the size and weight of your item accurately, you'll be asked to specify these details when you list it. This ensures you receive a suitable postage label when your item sells. You may also choose to update the size and weight if you believe our estimate is incorrect. Just make sure to report accurate measurements to avoid additional charges.

What if the label provided is not appropriate for my item?

If your parcel exceeds the maximum size and weight of the label, and you listed following our recommended size and weight for your item, you won't have to pay additional costs. If you provided the item's size and weight yourself, and these are not accurate, you'll need to take care of any additional costs.

Thank you for that. I have never used simple delivery so had not looked too closely at it.

@buffster1963 you're welcome!

eBay CEO Jamie Iannone has said that Simple Delivery will become mandatory for all private sales of eligible items sometime in Q1 2025, so I'd highly recommend for all private sellers to read the full FAQ on the page I linked to above to be prepared for when that happens.

Yeah, I'm much the same, been with them over 20 years with 100% feedback, a buyer but also at times selling, a little here and there, now preparing to leave Ebay, Business sellers are definetly their priority now, looks like I'll be opening an account with one of the alternatives

I have been selling on Ebay for 20 years, and have seen many changes but this new change is a very bad one for me, it's the delivery and holding Payments that has put me off the most, but as I  sell low priced items buyers will not buy with the added cost, sadly I will no longer be selling or buying on Ebay from February,

its crazy,, i will  be selling elsewhere i think.VERY buyer heavy. Ebay will suffer from this without doubt. They need a re-think.

same with me, i never know for sure what the size will be until i actually pack them.  Most of the time i get it right but with something that needs more care i find that i use far more packing to make sure it gets there safely and i just suck up the extra cost.  Rather that than it gets there damaged.  Not that it will apply to me because i will not be using it.  It is the one think i am drawing the line at.  Went with managed payments even though it did not sound too impressive but i was willing to try it, will suck up and see how the extra 'buyers fees' work out and am willing to wait two weeks for the money.  What i am not going to do is use simple delivery.

ebay make no such claim that Private accounts are only to sell unwanted items, that's your own interpretation.

There is a difference between speculatively making items to sell (ahead of time) as a business and making items to order as a hobby. Thousands of private sellers are makers who do exactly what I do, it's no different to your grandma knitting hats for people.

I'm actually considering making the move to business seller, but my prices will go up accordingly to cover the final value fees, and all my Free Second Class delivery items will change to tracked at an additional £1 on the price.

The thing is, I don't want to lose my private seller account, so that'll just be used for selling second hand items (the annual 6k tax limit) and hopefully I can get a new account off the ground for the new made to order items, going to be a pain building up feedback again though. Probably worth buying consumables on eby for a little while instead of Ali

Unfortunately, FB marketplace in the UK only permits local sales and not shipping. So I guess it's ETSY and my direct website next.

Its a good idea to open a new account for your business sales as once you change you cannot change back. You could always buy some cheap items just to get a bit of feedback before starting.

You could convert this account and open a new private one, the feedback might be more valuable as a business.

Making items to order, if you take money for them, is a business.

If Granny sold her knitted hats on ebay she would need a business account.

If a buyer asks a particular kind of question, a seller might have to unpackage the item to check, then re-package it?!

"With Simple Delivery, eBay will automatically estimate the size/weight based on item details. If they are not able to determine that information or if you believe their estimate is wrong, you do have the option of entering your own information..."

That'll be a laugh a minute for a lot of my items.  They have enough trouble even suggesting an appropriate category to list them in, so guessing the size/weight, fat chance.

And, as @kath3735_wxmjn says, I don't even know myself, for I don't pack until the item is bought.

The point is, I want to retain the existing account and its feedback as a private account, for when ebay backpedal again.

And before anyone says they won't backpedal, they have continuously backpedalled changes since they bought yahoo auctions UK 20+ years ago.
Free listings, paid listings, free listings, paid listings
no fees, Paypal fees, ebay fees, no fees

I was planning to separate used and new sales to different accounts anyway, just wanted to have more time to pick up the feedback and sales in the transition
