The new when we get paid rules from February.

Ebay was always heavily weighted in favour of the Buyers, but this new mad rule thats coming in next month about having to wait two days after delivery is confirmed to get paid is simply beyond the pale.

And sometimes delivery conformation never comes, apparently in that situation we have to wait 14 days to get our money.

This is disgusting and completely nuts. A self-destructive move from Ebay.

Don't forget ebay is a private company, there is no right to an ebay account, and a private seller doesn't have 'loss of income' to deal with.

No-one can legislate to make ebay do as you seem to want.

Unfortunately ebay can do whatever they like as long as it's legal. Ebay is big business (well, an American Mega-Corp ...can't get much bigger than that! ) and their only raison d'etre is to Make Money.

We have all 'signed up' and agreed to ebay's latest terms-and-conditions so we have to live with it.

(and we don't even have to sign or even 'tick a box' to agree; we've agreed simply by using ebay)

Indeed and many private companies/businesses look after their customers ( or they would have none) and we with accounts are ebay customers. Maybe ebay will start to treat us as  valued individuals with  understanding and common sense when people start to realise that ebay are " stepping on real Humans"  many of  which actually aided eBay to get where they are today. eBay are concerned only with their Business to accumulate more Businesses on a global scale to be a " global leader" in the online marketplace and more, and without their  " customers"  they could not do this.

They are actually driving genuine good people away.

Re: The new when we get paid rules from February.

It seems possible that ebay is planning to transition to an Amazon model, where business sellers create the listings and private sellers can sell "underneath" the headings (I think that is how it works)....???

Hi sml92

Where did you see that?

marco@ebay   said in the online chat:

Regarding your question, changes will apply to all listings from the date the new changes take effect. So, listings listed before the date in question, and new listings after the date, will be impacted.

Not sure which bit of what I said you are actually querying but to clarify:

The new payment terms are effective from 4th February and will, therefore, apply to any items sold from that date, or more specifically any items where payment is made by the buyer on or after that date, so both new and existing listings will be impacted.

The new buyer protection fees will apply to all new, relisted, and existing listings from 4th February except for existing 'Auction-style' listings as outlined on ebay's Buyer Protection help page:

'What will happen to my existing listings?

For UK-based private sellers, the Buyer Protection fee will immediately be added to all existing Buy-It-Now listings (excluding Cars, Motorcycle & Vehicles, Classified Ads, and Property).

The fee will be added to Auction and Buy-It-Now listings created on or after 4 February, 2025, including relisted listings.

Listings that are relisted or renewed on or after 4 February will be subject to the fee.'

Re: The new when we get paid rules from February.

Clearly eBay no longer wants private sellers. I’ll let my last 6 active auctions complete then I’m off elsewhere.

I honestly do hope that you are recovering well and have obv been through a very traumatic experience.

Ebay do not have any empathy unfortunately ....they are just business orientated 😞

Not sure what account you are referring to but private accounts are only for people  selling their personal items they no longer want.   Anyone making or  selling all new items they brought to sell, like yourself, should be registered as a business seller to abide by consumer laws.

Re: The new when we get paid rules from February.

It's not my opinion. It is ebay making the changes in order to encourage sellers who are operating a business on a private account to upgrade. Basically making it very hard for such businesses to have hold of any cashflow that is essential for a business to operate.

That's a fallacy.  It's only true for a business that's rapidly expanding and without serious financial backing.

I guess you've never run a business or had accountancy training.  Sorry, I don't mean to offend, I just hate to see incorrect advice.

Edit to add: if Ebay seriously wanted to stop the 'private' sellers who run businesses, they could have done so years ago.  They didn't need this fee change to do it.  It isn't hard to write a bit of computer code that scans the site's database for sellers listing thousands of brand new items on a private account and at least send them a mail gently encouraging them to become registered as a business seller and the reasons why.  But I don't think they've ever shown the slightest inclination to do so.

'If Ebay seriously wanted to stop the 'private' sellers who run businesses,'

I don't believe ebay ever seriously wanted to stop it happening. After all 'private' sellers couldn't have their contact details on view  (unlike business sellers having to)  so it made 'off-ebay' trading very hard to do.

Now of course, there's no fees to evade by trading off-ebay (for private sellers) so getting 'private' sellers on to fee-paying business footings is now a good thing.....

Thanks ebay you killed it for me and many others. Perfect for more scams  sellers  hit again  send Item  no proof  no pay. Most of the time po does not scan the bar code. And if no feed back left. No payment maybe you only want big sellers   owell time to move on r. I. P  ebay

Re: The new when we get paid rules from February.

May I ask how there will be more scams?

The process hasn't changed, if you send an item through a standard service without tracking the buyer can and will open a case and they will be refunded if you can't prove delivery, feedback has never been used to prove delivery and it never will because feedback can be left in error.

If the postie or courier does not scan, you refund the buyer through the case and then you submit a claim with RM or the courier.

I may be missing something but I can't see how more scams will happen, can anyone shed more light on what has changed to yield more scams from buyers?

Re: The new when we get paid rules from February.

what has changed to yield more scams from buyers?

By virtue of buyers now paying a fee, presumably because ebay couldnt cope with the swell of claims previously (unless the Protection bit is just a guise for greed in getting more fees in), the subject of a claim has been highlighted - thus sellers of all breeds should expect more claims.

With ebay holding the funds, and establishing the new 'simple postage', i would expect it be ebay doing the raising of claims on the delivery companies who they have selected.

Re: The new when we get paid rules from February.

If you are using simple delivery the item will be tracked anyway, if there is no delivery scan it will be eBay refunding the seller and buyer which will cut out a lot of stress for a seller and save them time claiming for the loss which can take 30 days to resolve.

Nothing has changed, if there is no tracking to prove delivery you have lost the claim, the same as it is now. It is generally how honest the buyer is and if they see no tracking or delivery confirmation even though they have the item then they decide to open a case to get a refund.

In over 35,000 sales and many INR cases opened we have never lost one where tracking has been added and showing delivery.

It is a known fact that tracking will cut INR cases down by a considerable amount, it prevents buyer and seller fraud.

That would make sense -

what are the  known numbers relating to this as a bench mark?

Re: The new when we get paid rules from February.

I don't have the figures exactly, eBay did release some data on this maybe a year or two ago, when I have time to search for this I will certainly post the information.

It stands to reason there will be less cases opened, we ourselves only had 8 cases opened last year using RM Tracked and the ones that were opened were found in our favour and more than likely chancers trying to get a free item.

Even over Q4 when every business expects to receive a high number we only actually had 2 and one was from someone who claimed they never signed even though we don't use that service and they opened the case 6 weeks after it was delivered.

I am more interested in how there will be more scams because there is payment hold as it affects everyone who doesn't send an item tracked.

Re: The new when we get paid rules from February.

xx Thanks for your kind words. EBay need to think smarter because without
both buyers & sellers they won't have a platform. They use to have the
advantage over other selling platforms but not anymore. It now makes sense
for me to sell with a well established transparent site. eBay clearly can't
decide on a consistent business model & if their own reps can't keep up
with the changes what chance have it's users. Good luck xx
