Simple Delivery

Is Simple Delivery mandatory now ? used to be able to select custom postage option but it’s not available now. Just tried listing and Simple Delivery is the only option for postage

Re: Simple Delivery

It may be because valuables - watches are on the prohibited by SD list.

Re: Simple Delivery

As a private seller selling surplus GB postage stamps am I right in thinking that selling stamps on e-bay  are  exempt from the simple delivery service. All my orders are presently sent through  the post office and  mainly consist of normal letter size using my stock (hundreds) of postage stamps acquired from the post office.

Thank you Jim

Yes,  that is correct, stamps are exempt from SD. Not sure the Penny Black would be ?? 🙄

Under £10 and under 100g = Custom Postage.

Re: Simple Delivery

Stamps which are still valid for postage are prohibited, rather then exempt.

e.g. your 396829715237

"Stamps which are still valid for postage are prohibited, rather then exempt."

Thanks for the link.

What new madness is this? If current stamps (e.g. 1st class, 2nd class, large letter) are 'prohibited' from SD then why have my listings been stealthily brought into this?

They are certainly not prohibited by Royal Mail, the carrier I use.

So is a buyer now expected to arrange collection each time? Ebay's restrictive T&Cs are getting even more impossible.

First Ebay was determined to phase them out, now it is stopping users from selling them on? ☹️

Re: Simple Delivery

See my comment on how to list/post gold from May.

https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Seller-Central/Simple-Delivery-failed-now-a-test-case-worried/m-p/78...

Since then, other members have reported you can update the SD tracking number with your own, as long as i.e. the SD label has been generated.

I would suggest listing only a few items on that basis at the beginning and possibility at any one time (e.g. when awaiting other payments) in case ebay put in further restrictions etc.

Re: Simple Delivery

Thanks for that. I have only the 2 stamps lots but one of them is at Ebay's 'special' rate for large letters worth over £100. That's nearly 30% more than the current £2.70 Royal Mail Tracked 48 rate. All for a significantly reduced service, meaning no cover at all. As if  SD was some kind of 'improvement'?

I'll update to seller pays postage but definitely NOT at Ebay's Reduced Standards rate.

It does feel almost like blackmail. You MUST use our compulsory postage service with absolutely no means of opting out AND your item are not even covered when you do. This conveniently lazy arrangement needs to be properly tested in court. Preferably with someone else being the guinea pig.

Re: Simple Delivery

I agree. I think a good lawyer would pull this bunch of numpties apart frankly over compulsory postage and  hanging on to your money for up to 14 days. Imagine for example, you went into the PO, bought a book of stamps, and the teller said you'd have to wait 14 days to collect them!

Apparently at the moment, you can still opt out of SD for items under £10 depending on what you're selling. Not sure about stamps but I sell mostly low price vinyl records which I can't opt out on.  So really anything priced around £7 or under barely breaks even. They want to charge me £2.70 to post one 45.  Actual cost is £1.55. I have come back  for a look after 6 months, but it's just as bad as it was in March. No wonder they are leaking private sellers! was the backbone of the business.

If you haven't already, take a look at Ebid as an alternative platform. People do seem to sell a lot of stamps although it has a much smaller customer base. Very low charges though and you choose you're own postage!

"Simple" Delivery has to be one of the best jokes around.

Re: Simple Delivery

It does need testing in court. You and I can buy large letter postage for £2.70 with RM tracked 48 AND receive cover up to the value of £150.

Ebay is buying exactly the SAME service from the RM but charging the buyer £3.46 AND withholding the seller protection provided by the courier. Apparently, for no reason other than stamps have magically become 'prohibited' under SD.

But I can no longer use custom postage.

Unless of course I use 'freepost' and buy my own postage label, meaning the buyer will be clobbered with additional buyer fees on top and the seller has to beg Ebay for a refund of an unused label.

It's fast becoming impossible to use Ebay responsibly and give buyers the best possible customer service without apparently being punished for doing so.

Re: Simple Delivery

You have a couple of listings for matchbox size items at 3.94 postage which is the rate for items over £100 0-1kg medium parcel

they shouldn’t be medium size parcel??

Re: Simple Delivery

When you listed that item can you remember what eBay recommended . Because if you chose that , then eBay will foot the bill ***

ps how do you know they generated a 1kg label cos my labels don’t show weight or size

*** maybe try relist or sell similar and see what the eBay recommendation shows as

Re: Simple Delivery

I think those may be over £100 too so Ebay's 'special' rates apply (nothing to do with RM).

Admittedly, I still have standard small parcels at £3.90 and £3.75. Those are just me trying to use up a few stamps...

Re: Simple Delivery

Deleted wrong info

sorry about that

3.94 is the rate for both small and medium 0-1kg parcel for things over £100

got a bit googlyeyed reading the price lists
