Simple Delivery and Royal Mail Collections

I’ve seen this question asked over and over this weekend, will I be able to get a Royal Mail collection with Simple Delivery?

According to the FAQ you can…

“Collection is available for items sent through Simple Delivery with Royal Mail labels only. You can book a collection on the Royal Mail website after you create your Simple Delivery label.”

You can't select for RM to bring a label.

You have been given 2 different answers above and they are both correct.

To explain,If you buy your postage direct from Royal Mail they will bring a label but you cannot do this with Simple Delivery as the postage is paid by the buyer(unless seller uses free postage) and any postage you buy will be at your expense, the buyer would receive a refund if the original label supplied by eBay wasn't used.

To book a collection that has a Simple Delivery label you have to print the label yourself although eBay are working with RM to find a solution to home collection

Re: Simple Delivery and Royal Mail Collections

But the postman bringing the label will bring the label the buyer bought. That’s why you copy the tracking no from the label into the collection request. But tick bring a label instead of printing it.

you wouldn’t have to buy it, royal mail would print it instead of you.

Re: Simple Delivery and Royal Mail Collections

It doesn't work with eBay labels ,try it yourself

In fact eBay even state

'After receiving shipping confirmation simply book a collection through Royal Mail’s website. At the moment you’ll need to print your label but we hope to provide a printerless collection option very soon. '

No - That's a glaring hole in the system at the moment

Re: Simple Delivery and Royal Mail Collections

Just to add to this - I have just used simple delivery and then went straight to the Royal Mail website, booked a pickup and it seems very simple. I don't think it's as easy as it was before (where the option for a pickup was listed as part of the process) but it seems easy enough.

You just deselect Evri as an option in your seller settings so that's not an option for buyers.

Re: Simple Delivery and Royal Mail Collections

I know - this is something they seem to have introduced last week (or that's the first time I used it since they've introduced it). Rather annoying, although as my postie pointed out, it saves a trip to the Post Office (no mean round trip from where I live) and avoids queues. Every silver lining has a cloud 😁

Re: Simple Delivery and Royal Mail Collections

collection service via royal mail is NOT free with simple delivery label. I was charged when booking collection for tracking from simple delivery label. How to opt out? there is no option to change, can only change couriers or simple delivery / collection in person

Re: Simple Delivery and Royal Mail Collections

Did you book the collection separately on the Royal Mail website or from within eBay?

Other posters have reported that they weren't charged the 30p when using the new option of booking the collection within eBay:

Booking a collection

If you have a Royal Mail label, you can book a collection on eBay. Royal Mail can then collect your item and also bring the label for you if you don't have a printer. You'll need to book the collection before you create your prepaid label. Here's how:

  1. Go to Orders in My eBay.
  2. Select the order you'd like to book a collection for.
  3. Select Get prepaid label.
  4. Choose the date for the collection.
  5. Select Book collection.

Once you've booked your collection, you won't be able to change the date. If you miss your collection, you can book it again for another date on the Royal Mail website.

Re: Simple Delivery and Royal Mail Collections

Hope this thread is still live? 🤞🍀 Health has forced a prolonged adjournment of my eBay activities and I've returned to "Simple" 🫣 Deliveries. I always use Royal Mail+ the postage cost stated on my listings is spot on. eBay on their wisdom seen to start the shipping cost at £3.38. 2 items that were "listed until sold"  has sold and buyer paid that £3.38 but the real cost to me is around £9.00. I don't mind losing the difference but it's a muddle. The worst thing is, when I book shipping and collection from me (I'm disabled and no longer drive) It goes smoothly. I'm able to let my buyer know it's been despatched, what day to expect it, and I even let them have the RM 2 hr window on the day, plus I know when it's been delivered. That degree of service I can no longer offer. I'm 76. Have been on eBay since 1999 but can't see it lasting much longer. I can't be done with muddles not of my making. I used to enjoy it, made lots of buyer friends and donated proceeds to my community foodbank, a hospice and 2 other charities. I hope someone from eBay reads this and tries to iron out the wrinkles.

Re: Simple Delivery and Royal Mail Collections

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I've just had my first session on eBay for many months. A long spell of bad health which sadly continues. My head is frazzled. So many changes and problems seem to have been created. Some may be because I use Auctiva for their templates. I've tried to look at and amend an old listing on eBay to see if Simple delivery reared it's head. I always used to show the cost in the listing. I will only use Royal Mail as I need home collection as immobile. They've never let me down but Evri, Yodel, DPD etc I'd never use due to bad experiences as both a seller and recipient. The £9 item is a large flat package. Imagine a normal household door cut in half. It will go 48 hr tracked which I use for more valuable items. Am I right in thinking if eBay charges £3.38 each on both sold items untracked RM will honour the delivery at a loss? My way always worked perfectly for me because I can advise the buyer when to expect it and I get confirmation of delivery. I'm 76 and struggle to learn new systems but there seems to be so much that could go wrong. I've only ever received Positive feedback since 1999 because I like others work hard at it.  I think I might have to throw the towel in 😓🤕

Re: Simple Delivery and Royal Mail Collections

I'm 79 so you've got a bit to go before you start throwing towels!
My items are mainly 1kg, but some have two pieces so are nearer 2kg, when I
click on the weight thing to get the label, the buyer has already paid the
postage, and it does say it will be covered up to two kg, and it's £3.38
whatever.
I just wondered where the £9 postage was coming from.
Like you I need collection as am disabled, always use Royal Mail. I used to
buy on their site but now go through simple postage on eBay. If anything
goes wrong, you aren't left carrying the can for it..I did one buyer a
favour and sent special delivery so she'd get it faster, big mistake. It
didn't arrive in time and she opened a case and I refunded her.
Surprise surprise, it then arrived and she wouldn't return it, so she had
the dress and the refund. EBay wouldn't help because I'd not used simple
delivery, lesson learned.

Re: Simple Delivery and Royal Mail Collections

eBay are creating A Scammer's Paradise.

Do you or anyone know what would happen if I use the £3.38 eBay label for an item that's bigger and heavier and have the cheek to (if i can) arrange the necessary home collection for delivery ? The way it used to work is the person receiving a package with underpaid postage would have to pay the extra and a penalty before it was left with them

Re: Simple Delivery and Royal Mail Collections

Yes the buyer would have a charge to pay before they could collect from Royal Mail. I had one and the buyer wouldn’t collect even though I said I’d pay, somehow the settings were set to 100 grams, large letter and I didn’t notice. Though to be honest she didn’t either. Anyway it took nearly two months for it to be returned to me. That’s when I noticed the 100 grams weight. So alas no, you wouldn’t get away with it.
