Simple Delivery - Punished for not using Evri ?

I have only made 3 sales since Ebay brought in simple delivery. I have my account set to Royal Mail.

Sold a Jacket today ,( 4/11/2025),packaged it up, went to post office , package refused !!. Why ?..... Ebay sent a label for a maximum parcel of 2kg and the jacket in a box weighed 4kg.

I have now had to cancel.

It's bad enough that sales have dropped to the level they have but when I do get a sale Ebay charge me for a useless postage label.

And of course the only 3 options as a reason for cancellation make it look like it's my fault with no option to expand on the reason for cancelation like " Ebay won't let me choose postage and sent a label that was for the wrong weight" .

It really is pointless trying to get a sale on Ebay now. I posted before and now my sales on Vinted are at 50 to 3 on Ebay over the same time period. All items were listed on Ebay and Vinted.

Simple Delivery postage is no different from Vinted postage.

It is up to you, as the seller to choose the correct postage and know the weight of the item you are listing. Ebay do not have this information and can only suggest a guide price. If it is wrong, you should use the options to choose another more suitable postage which is within the weight and measurements of your parcel.

There are many problems with SD, but in this case, the problem is purely OP's fault.

If it weighs 4kg when packed, why did he state it was under 2kg when he listed it?

Not everything is eBay's fault.

Simple Delivery - Punished for not using Evri ?

There is still a lot of confusion about how choosing parcel size/weight works with Simple Delivery. On the one hand, eBay say SD will select the size/weight for your item, and it will be accepted at the PO even if it is bigger than the label provided by SD - but on the other hand, if you think the wrong size has been selected, you can input your own size/weight...

The only way to ensure you get the right postage label, is to work out the correct packed weight of your item before you list. Not always as convenient as packing & buying your postage after the item has sold, but better safe than sorry.

The Post Office should not have refused your parcel.  They are contractually obliged to accept all parcels, regardless of whether the parcel size corresponds to the label as long as it is within the maximum overall dimensions permitted by the carrier.  This is even stated on their own website:

'If you have a personal eBay account, you’ll most likely be using Simple Delivery. This means the buyer pays for the postage and you’ll be sent a prepaid postage label. You can print this yourself or ask the Post Office team to print it from a QR code. Our branches should accept all parcels, as long as they’re within the service’s maximum weight and dimensions (20 kg and 61 cm x 46cm x 46cm).'

As long as the ebay label said "Marketplace" on it, the Post Office should not have refused it due to the deal that's been done between ebay and its carriers.

And the disclaimer before you list your item:

'Package size

Ensure the package is not heavier or larger than your size selection to avoid additional costs deducted from your account.'
