NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

But when they’ve chased away all the private sellers, who’s going to be their money fleecing targets then!

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Just adding my +1.

Been using eBay for selling off my copious collection of stuff on and off for over 20 years. Looks like this an "off" period again after being told that I can no longer choose my carrier and my delivery options, buy my postage on RM Click & Drop, book a collection and have my friendly postie bring my labels.

I live in a fairly rural area and don't want to traipse 5 miles to my nearest Evri parcelshop, waste time, paper and ink printing labels or spend my lunch hour queueing at the village post office.

Everything else they've introduced recently has been tolerable but "Simple" Delivery has made the process harder!

I've ended my listings for now and will be waiting for the dust to settle before I consider selling again.

I am not selling because this such bad change on top what are other bad changes.  Its a basic rule of business you don't treat long term customers with  such arrogant  contempt as Ebay has just done

Something that is a bid odd , I started using Hermes ( Evri) during Covid as they collected  from home and before RM did . I went to RM collection as it was so much more reliable than Hermes .

Have Evri stopped home collection or have Ebay just decided only RM cab do that . They might have chosen to couriers to get over CMA rules but given restrictions  there is no choice in a whole range of circumstances

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

"Five years ago all the posts here were complaining just as angrily about managed payments.  Four years ago it was seller fees, two years ago it was fee discount weekends and vouchers, now this.  I wonder what it will be next year?"

I do think there is a difference this time.  While plenty of complaints about MP were from private sellers, many were more concerned about the loss of paypal and the difficulty of setting up new bank accounts in the middle of Covid lock-downs.

Complaints about seller fees, discount weekends and vouchers came mostly from business sellers and were more about the disparity between how much they paid and how little private sellers (especially "private" sellers) paid in comparison.

IMO private sellers haven't complained greatly about anything since MP five years ago, they have had little to complain about and what they did have was shared with business sellers, who also did their share of complaining.

Since "Free" to Sell was introduced and all the restrictions since then (payment holds, BPF, SD giving ebay NINOs) have all been aimed squarely at private sellers with businesses exempt.

Private sellers, with good reason IMO, resent being labelled as un-reliable sellers that buyers need to be protected from and used as an excuse to have their cash held.  Especially as it's obvious that the reality is it's all just to recoup ebay's lost income.

The mess that ebay has made of introducing SD and again that ebay has done this to make money for itself  while ignoring any detrimental effects on private sellers is greatly resented.

Whether this has been done in a badly thought-out attempt to tackle the "private" seller problem, or is a deliberate attempt by ebay to rid itself of private sellers the effect has been to make ebay highly unpopular with them and more than ever, useless to them as an effective selling site.

IMO not a good idea when they have viable alternatives which are easier and more pleasant to use.  Some may go and return, but less than ebay expects IMO.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

If they didn’t make a penny out of private sellers it’s no one fault but their own.
I know that I’m not the only one who wouldn’t object to them charging commission on sales - that’s how auction houses make their money. What I do object to is them trying to make money by the back door and spinning it in such a way that they are doing everyone a favour.
For what it’s worth it’s not just on here that the recent changes are receiving a bashing.
The Mumsnet forum has a thread running at the moment which is full of posters complaining and saying they don’t use it now for either buying or selling.

Yes it has totally wrecked it for me, I am in my 70’s and was doing ok but now I’m just letting my items run down and not posting anymore, people aren’t buying anyway as they are complaining about the postage for inbetween size items being far too much. And I too combined postage and refunded for return buyers. They have messed up big time!

Regarding ebay not making a penny. What about the Buyer protection fee they are adding which is 4% on everything plus a standard charge.

Regarding question about under £10.  Yes it has to be under 100g also.  I have managed to list a few under custom Postage, at last. Sometimes it works, others not.  Click on the weight box first, choose 100g then click on advanced option where custom postage will appear. I sometimes get blank page on clicking weight box but customer services tell me all glitches will be sorted by 15th.

I have heard (of course its eBay so there has not been a proper announcement) that if its under £10 and you get a couple of bidders (unlikely I know) which takes it over £10 then SD automatically kicks in.

If that is so, buyers will get very annoyed if there are no flashing lights warning them that their next bid might cause a dramatic rise in postage.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

My other account the selling section is still showing my old custom postage rates, I havnt sold anything recently so don't know if the SD prices are yet relevant. I had to alter an listing last night for a wood chisel as it was flagged up as a bladed prohibited item and had to alter the postage to age verified.

(Another ebay mistake, as chisels are not required to be sent that way and only require common sense packaging.  This was told me directly by RM CS)

Though I was able revise to custom age verification then enter my old RM over the counter amount.

I'm also very concerned because living in a small town with an independent PO, I want to put as much business across their counter,  because if it closes the next nearest is 14 miles away.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I was thinking about stepping up to a business account before all this, now SD doesn’t seem financially viable to me as I’ve a lot of listings under £10. Postage will nearly double and if they chase away most private sellers how long will it be before it’s business sellers that get it.

Stuck in a bit of a limbo on what to do!

buyers are already paying protection for their items which should cover any once in a blue moon loss, so why the need to pay ridiculous tracking fees for low priced items when it’ll be no problem just refunding them. Now having to cut into the money I make on every order to get prices down. Senseless to me!

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Will this mean that private sellers will have to list an item as a buy-it-now - eg at £8 in order to make sure that it does not attract Simple Delivery?  A definitive answer from eBay management would be helpful as opposed to constant rumours.

Simple delivery - how is it simple? Reduced the number of integrated options from at least 6 couriers and then all their different services to a total of two options. Evri and Royal Mail. Of course you also used to be able to arrange carriage without going through ebay too, which was good for large & bulky items.

I used to send with either Evri or Yodel mainly and in most cases could prepare the parcel the evening of purchase and apply a postage label based on which courier I would be able to access the following day depending on which of my variable shifts I was working, either Evri if I would be able to post in the morning (local shop opens at 5.30am, before the Yodel shop) or Yodel if I would have to go after work (local shop is open until 11pm) therefore meaning I dispatched most of my parcels the day after purchase.

I can now no longer even select Yodel as an option.

Simple delivery is going to have an impact on my dispatch times since I no longer can choose the courier based on where I will be able to get to soonest. Huge step back.

Difficult one for you. It does look like they will revert to SD if bid is over £10. I couldn’t cope with that so mine are all fixed at £9.99.  I have sold a few over the last week and had no problems. Some with stamps and posted in post box when I couldn’t get to Post Office for proof of delivery.  I have ended higher value items.  If there are changes after tomorrow I will end all  listings and have told them in customer services and in reviews that I will not be buying either.

see my post of 10 32.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

As a buyer, business seller & (genuine) private seller for 18 years I have watched as ebay repeatedly mess up what was a sound & profitable business with one “cunning scheme” after another. The whole problem stems from the fact that after 20 years of exponential growth, ebay, like many other tech business are now seeing themselves move into a lucrative but mature market without the same growth potential. Instead of accepting that reality they have tried increasing fees (just 5% when I started) & inventing new ones in the hope of showing continuous growth. Every time they do so they lose sellers (who also often become ex-buyers) so have to invent more new fees just to cover those self-inflicted losses. I think that SD is the one that will put ebay over the edge into terminal decline.
They need to get back to basics, even the problem of undeclared business on private accounts is mostly of their own making due to the difference in selling costs. SPF & SD need to be scrapped with just one single fee level for both private & business sellers. Then just let us all get on with running our businesses or clearing household clutter with no unnecessary interference & clear upfront costs. If implemented quickly ebay might even survive.

Have anyone just got a marketing Email from Ebay

"Sell for free this long weekend, FIRSTNAME"

I have just forwarded it a blunt reply to eve.williams@ebay.com and copied in watchdog@bbc.co.uk  martinlewis@itv.com

The only email I want from Ebay now is something from Ebay CEO Eve Williams apologising for all this upset and telling me Ebay are going to come to their senses and stop reverse their idiotic  changes !!
