AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I stopped selling on here in Feb after 20 years and I'm not really missing it. All these changes (the 'protection fee', not getting my money and now this) were just too much hassle. I'm now listing my old CDs on Discogs which is so much easier (apart from shipping costs) - I've only sold 2 on there in 2 months though. I consider myself an intelligent man but just cannot get my head round the concept of 'simple' delivery and what it means in practice.

I may as well join the throng. I've started to take down my listings and am transferring sales to specialist Facebook groups and Marketplace. So far sales are going well and I urge everyone to try a different platform. I'll be investigating Vinted too.
I don't have a printer, never used a QR code and like refunding my customers if I have overcharged postage or they buy more than one item over a couple of days. That is how business interactions should work, with everyone happy. Not one grasping monolithic business harvesting everyone else's money.
I have spent and sold thousands on eBay over the past 23 years or so, so I think they've had their pound of flesh.

Ebay have copied this model from Vinted because it works for Vinted.
As usual, they haven't thought it through.
A lot of what goes on Vinted is stuff that would otherwise go to a charity shop or in the skip. It's quite normal for things to sell for a couple of quid over there.
Buy a printer. They're cheap.
I recently received a jacket instead of a camera part. The shipper had reused some old packaging with an address label inside and it turns out he was a few streets away from the guy who sent the camera part. The Inpost courier had lost track of the order of unmarked parcels he'd just picked up and consequently got his shipping labels mixed up.

I wish that eBay would just go back to being a platform and leave me to just get on with selling.
At least when Royal Mail changed their stamps they gave folk a year to use them up and what remained could be swapped which I did and hence I have got loads left. Royal Mail will not buy them back and I only have to post two Christmas cards a year. I am going to be stuck with them.
Simple delivery is too much too soon. It should be optional.

Me too and I’ve been a seller for as long you.
I’d be very interested to know how much eBay paid whoever was responsible for designing such a ridiculously complicated system and the same for whoever produced its list of (non existent) benefits. They may be able to talk the talk but sadly have lacked the intelligence to realise that what sellers want is a straightforward selling process not one where they have to go through hoops to list.
I know they have to make money somehow - every auction house charges a fee - and being honest I’d be happy for them to go back to charging a list fee rather than them using devious methods to make money

With eBay its all cloak and very sharp daggers.

At least with 100 free listings a month and whatever % fvf they charged you knew where you were. I used to sell some old theatre flyers on here and old music magazines - anyone know where I could now sell them?

I'm trying Delcampe and Ebid only Ebid does not have a buyer fee.

The more I read, the more I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm going to have to suspend all my listings on the 6th and see firstly, what happens here, or where else I can offload the CDs, books, magazines and records that I no longer want or need.
Feels wrong to just stick them in the bin but it might come to that I suppose.

Don't throw them away. I'm removing my listings on the 6th but I'm not deleting them totally.
I'm giving it a few weeks to see how things develop before definitely making a final decision.

Well said I just sell items from our child's locked up for over 10 years bedroom. Plus hubbies much loved items ready for retirement personal items top up fund. It was fun 3 years ago when I started. I'd list wrap up and hubby takes to postoffice. We don't do technology hubby has a bog standard brick phone. I list on my mobile. I work less than 4 hrs a day. So we have a routine. Well we did? So it seems there's to much e-bay renting my head space with giving buyers the right to fraud ect..waiting for not as described 30 day money back after use... or just wanting 2 items out of a bundle and stating not as described

I think people like dealing with who they use for postage. It just seems crazy that ebay and their AI will give a seller the options to choose from depending on what option a buyer chooses. Which might not be the best option for the actual seller. It's all a mess.
01-04-2025 8:24 PM
Yeah, that's what I'm going to do initially as well I guess and then see what happens.
I don't envisage a quick u-turn but you never know.
01-04-2025 8:28 PM
It's just all become a mess. So many policy changes and amendments and buyer fees etc and now compulsory Simple Delivery which is the final straw. I don't mind rules and policies in place but not when it leads to ebay wanting complete control and giving private sellers and buyers a like it or leave it choice.

We can only wish and hope. Unless something like a new platform for the UK starts up that would be useful for private sellers and buyers.
