I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

If the buyer didn't open an item not delivered case, perhaps it was delivered but not zapped by deliverer, so would just carry on looking like it hadn't been delivered but had, in which case you wouldn't need to refund.

I have not seen anything about them changing the parcel sizes (as yet!). Of course there is the firago of the dogs dinner they have made of actual womens clothing sizes!! They are obviously trying to compete now with e bay for which one can makes the biggest mess up (would have said something else but it would have got me into trouble). At least on here you could actually input a size, say 18 and did not have to have a 16-18 or 20-22. Now they have gone even stupider and altered everyones sizes that what was a 16 -18 now is 20-22 or something equally stupid....... Not everything on here was hopeless but i still will not be returning unless i can do my own postage.

Has ebay made buyers aware that they should contact ebay direct in the event of non-delivery or damaged in transit goods ? Several times I've read about sellers refunding because they've been contacted by the buyer, un-aware that they should open a case and let ebay handle the refund.
One way or another I can only see one outcome from ebay paying for lost or damaged purchases -- higher delivery charges for everyone.
In the last quarter's earnings figures weren't ebay blaming SD for some of the figures being disappointingly lower than expected and putting it down to losses arising from refunds and fraud ?
Ebay isn't going to stand for that, especially as SD was meant to be a new revenue stream for them, boosting profits.
What will they do ?
Put up delivery prices to buyers?
Squeeze the delivery companies harder for better deals ?
Whatever, the cost will be passed on to future buyers one way or another ?
Making sales even harder to come by ?

I've used evri for years and hardly ever had problems with them

Do not refund SD because we no-longer have contact with the courier. Its ebays job now they brought it in so they can suck it up - for losses that is.

Interesting situation. ebay would've had worked out a figure for the refunds & frauds. Either the figure has been under estimated or simple delivery isn't achieving the expected revenue to cover the losses and the expected profit. We can expect something to change if the figures fail to improve.

Yeah, just let us pick our own delivery options without eBay AI determining what it thinks is best for us!
A lot of that will also be down to - yet again - the AI being responsible for miscalculated shipping rates, so eBay then has to pick up the difference.

I've had lengthy conversation with the customer before and after the refund, and have confirmed they hadn't received the item.

Just checked one parcel that was sent on the 2nd November with EVRI (not my choice) still hasn't arrived?
I would never willingly use EVRI for exactly the reason above.

As you say "... ebay would've worked out a figure for the refunds & frauds." as the thread discusses ebay's increased provision for transaction losses. There is a lot of detail in the discussion, some of which I didn't fully understand.
To quote. "The increase in provision for transaction losses for the 3 and 9 months ended September 30, 2025 .... was primarily due toto the ramping up of our UK managed shipping program & unfavourable fluctuations in buyer and seller fraud & recovery rates."
The thread was started by @valueaddedresource and is titled "Ebay transaction losses up 19% in Q. 3, mostly due to SD claims." (Currently on P.6 of the SC board.)
Yes, we can expect something to change as ebay takes action to improve the figures and my guess would be that the end result will probably be increased charges on SD deliveries in one form or another. Either directly made by ebay on what they charge buyers. Or by delivery companies increasing their rates in general to offset their reduced revenue due to ebay negotiating more profitable contracts for itself.
Ebay has made it clear that SD is nothing more than a revenue stream to increase its take from each transaction thereby increasing its bottom line.
So before SD, delivery charges made by sellers only included the the element of profit made by the carrier of choice. Under SD there will be the profit the carrier makes plus the profit ebay hopes to make. Surely that will only result in increased delivery charges ?

There’s been an interesting announcement today by a major online sales platform that up until now has only enabled collect-only local trading, albeit on a nationwide basis. They are now going fully into ecommerce, and pitching themselves up against ebay. This strikes me as yet another example of ebay’s ill-conceived and badly implemented SD policy allowing other platforms to take huge advantage of the self-created exodus from ebay. What will ebay do about it? They’re letting that other well-known platform extend their categories without trying to get sellers (and buyers) back by making SD optional. According to today’s annoucement (below) by the MD of the “sticky tree” platform, their vision is quite clearly to step on ebay’s toes. Will ebay continue to do nothing about SD?
"This partnership with Evri is another step forward in bringing to life our vision to become the go-to marketplace for the home. Their vast network and reputation in logistics is crucial in making this happen safely and securely as we work towards a full rollout in 2026 – and will make it easier than ever for our customers to buy and sell pre-loved goods in the UK.”
PS. It's worth noting that the "sticky tree" company is now owned by a Chinese company. When they become an ecommerce platform, they will legally need customers' National Insurance number and possibly photo ID.

I thought bumtree was owned by Ebay.

I have a lot of local collect stuff on there but also post nationwide, by the tried and trusted "stick stamp on and post" method. Got an email from them a week or so ago saying they are basicslky going down the ebay route with an "all-in-one payment and delivery" service.
Since then I've been reducing my listings and will pull out altogether once they start their version of simple delivery.
I only sell on here now in categories with Custom Postage.
In what world do these companies think we want our every move controlled?

It was sold to Ocean Link on 3 February 2025, which is part of 58.com, which is a Chinese company.

"In what world do these companies think we want our every move controlled?"
I imagine the prospect of harvesting millions of customers' National Insurance numbers and photo ID is an attractive proposition for 58.com. The exodus from ebay due to the imposition of SD has presumably made ecommerce a viable proposition for them. I doubt if the majority of their customers currently know that they would be giving all their sensitive data to a Chinese company.

In the world where gumtree was purchased for I imagine a not insignificant amount of money and they would like to see a return on their investment.
I don't imagine the revenue from selling ad space brings in all that much. Taking a cut of orders and delivery is far more lucrative. You selling your item and sticking a stamp on an envelope makes them no money unless you promoted the classified ad.
