AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Also, in the case of the tea set, it may come under bulky/fragile not covered by couriers under SD. There are exceptions to SD as a policy.

The 2 other accounts in my household also have this option to use Custom Postage.
It's mentioned in multiple forums and threads around the internet.
It was also mentioned in one of the original communiques from eBay regarding SD.
Lots of private sellers can and do use postage policies to make SD optional.

The pathetic part is that we are having to go through all this in the first place just to sell items on a once great platform that has now fallen to the point you need to hire a lawyer and an accountant to go through their T&Cs daily to see how to sell on that particular day. Funny they haven't rolled this great idea out in the USA yet as they know what would happen the second they do.

Here is the listing for a Denby tea set priced at £45.
As you can see SD is an option for this listing but I have chosen custom postage. It hasn't been changed back by eBay in the month that it has been listed.
It's great that this is working for you, but also clear that other people using business policies are not seeing the same option so, while it may be worth a try, it clearly isn't a solution for everyone.
Ebay run different versions of the site for different users, so it may be there is something different about your account that is accounting for the availability of custom delivery.
One way of testing if it is directly related to your use of business policies or some other quirk of your account would be to try opting out of business policies and see if custom delivery is still available for your listings (I appreciate you may not want to try that!)

Also ebay says they will sort out any problems with simple delivery. This is not the case as having sold and item, the customer chose evri, the item was returned to me buy evri having never gotten to the buyer at all and the item was damaged. the cutomer still wants the item but ebay cannot issue another label and their answer is to cancel the order and the buyer bid again. This is not helpful because the buyer may not bid again and if they did would have to pay a second postage. After a few telephone conversations with ebay the latest was ' we end the call and shipping dept will ring you back within a few seconds'. Of course this has not happened along with a promise of a new label within 48 hours which didn't happen, so all in all what a loser.

Just look at the amount of updates you get on the app...seems to be an update every 3 or 4 days telling us they're "listening" and sorting out bugs etc etc.
The whole place has become Amateurish to say the least.
Sales are at an all time low - it's Christmas in 6 weeks and this is usually the busiest time of the year - whoever is making these decisions needs to go the same way as the BBC bosses.

You'll probably find that's the case with almost any app, particularly so with those who store personal data. My banking and credit card apps almost always have to be updated if I haven't been in it for a week.
I know many people around here seem to think that security is something occurs at the point a website is launched and never has to be looked at again - but its these kind of updates that ebay refer to when they state things like buyer protection fee includes 'Secure transactions' - if the app wasn't updated - the transaction may not be secure.

"If you have postage policies set up you are always given the option to choose SD or custom postage on every item."
No, not always, and not for everybody. I've set up postage policies today and I've played around with various permutations. I would love to have the flexibility that you seem to have got, but... I haven't. Either your account is a glitch, or as wellingnorth has said, it may be because they are testing different versions of the software for reasons best known to themselves.
Would you be happy for me to ask the team about it in Wednesday's chat?

If you're talking about the buyer protection fee I agree. It's daylight robbery and now I find that buyers try to bargain with you more because of the buyer protection fee that is slapped on top of the price that has been set. And what with simple delivery tying you in and the fact they trap your funds in the Ebay account rather than paying you straightaway into your bank account. What is that about? It's much harder if not impossible to combine postage and presumably holding on to your and everyone else's money means they can get interest on the amounts held. Why else do it?

Ive opted out of Evri. I refuse to use them. I also wont buy from private sellers as I have no way of knowing if the item will be sent by evri or not.

If the item is being sent with Simple Delivery then you can find out which carrier is being used by clicking on 'Contact seller' and then 'Postage'.

I agree, but stamp_hammer is insistent that they can do it on their account and keeps telling everyone else that they can do the same, which isn't the case. I think it should be raised with the team in Wednesday's chat and hopefully stamp_hammer will be OK with that.

As of today (12th November) I'm done with selling on Ebay, sold my last item on 20th September, dispatched on 22nd Sept and subjected to this simple delivery farce, customer chose Evri (god help us), and yes you guessed it, the item wasn't delivered, and has since has become lost, as a goodwill gesture I refunded the customer without going through a case as I was about to go on holiday and didn't want the stress of it. Once I got back on 6th October, I raised the non delivery with Evri via their automated chat who said they would investigate, up to now, nothing back from Evri, so tried their chat again today, enter the parcel number, just get an auto response to say it's still being investigated, so try their phone number, it asks for the last 8 digits of the parcel number to which it links to a TikTok order delivered on 1st November???, which is completely incorrect, so call up again, and choose no options as sometimes if you do this it will eventually put you through to someone, but no it cuts you off, so try the complaints procedure, again this sends you through the same options, you literally get nowhere. So then I call Ebay, spend 10 mins while they look into it to be told as the customer didn't raise a case for non delivery (because I refunded it before then), they won't do anything either even though they can see the item has not been delivered, and nor has the item come back to me. The representative then suggested I raise it with Evri, to which I explained the issue again and that they seem to have all angles covered for you not to be able to speak to anyone and take no accountability for non deliveries, so how can I be put in a position where I now have no choice over who delivers the item that I'm sending, then when it goes wrong no-one wants any responsibility for it apart from me taking a loss? I don't think I'll be taking that risk anymore so I removed my listings just before I went on holiday, SORRY EBAY, I'M DONE WITH SELLING.

Worth noting for lost items under SImple Delivery - the buyer is supposed to contact ebay directly who then refund the customer themselves (you keep the funds). Sadly doesn't help in your case where ebay won't likely budge unless you continue to make complaints.

Yet another layer of confusion with SD . Customers should not have to read through the lines to say what SD actually meant and changed in terms of seller responsibility
The fact that seller no longer buys the postage should have been clearly explained as it is a massive change in terms of seller responsibility . As what was a simple set-up before SD with the seller being responsible for delivery is now complex and clouded
A fundamental flaw with SD is the seller is still responsible for packaging and that will have to cause issues somewhere along the line , unless Ebay and their courier are happy to refund all damaged in transit issues regardless .
Unfortunately a "feature" of SD is the Seller no longer has a role in resolving post sale issues and all Sellers that are forced to use SD need to be aware of it and point their buyers back to Ebay . The fact that sellers are no longer responsible for this could easily be interpreted that the buyer is actually buying the item from Ebay and the sellers buyer is Ebay . That in turn makes the charging of BPF totally invalid as Ebay are a business .
Ebay and other platforms who have deployed this model to their own significant financial advantage really do deserve to taken to account and sooner or later that will happen as the process/ model does not stand up to proper scrutiny

And how you taking them to account? What are you doing? I ask with all sincerity and just want to know the answer - as it bothers you (Simple Delivery doesn't bother me either here or Vinted - if I get a sale, I get a sale) I assume you are looking to take this up legally or via Government intervention?

I thought that was actual product sizing (a load of my wifes clothes changed to a completely different size) not parcel sizing which is still Small/medium/Large
But off topic anyway
