AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Your robe is showing simple delivery options for postage, standard or express delivery.

"You can use custom postage on any value or size item if you set up postage policies."

It's very hard to believe that private sellers can bypass SD for all items just by setting Postage Policies. Are you really saying that the last 7 months of the hellhole that is SD could have been avoided all along just by setting Postage Policies? It doesn't make any sense.
As Stephen above has said, your robe is selling with SD. To prove what you've said about overriding SD, you would need to show one of your listings that would normally have been sold with SD but for which you have chosen Custom Delivery. I doubt very much that you can do that, but let's see.

I just took a quick look at that contact given ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/bp/manage ) and looks like it's for business listing only, not private sellers

It says that private sellers can use it too, and in fact I've just set up some policies as it seemed like a useful thing to do anyway. But as expected, I've just started a new listing for another piece of sheet music and it overrided my Postage Policy with SD for the category mentioned on the previous page. I'll be interested to see what stamp_hammer comes back with.

Not so - its just poorly named.
Anyone COULD have Business Policies setup to speed up their Payment/Postage and Return Policies that appeared on listing.
For Business Sellers, this is still how it tends to work.
Private Sellers could do this - but its already shown above - Simple Delivery will generally overwrite Postage Policies. Unsure if it would draw its data into Custom Postage if that is available.

Hi @moonlight-rhapsody . The idea that business policies override SD is nonsence, SD overides business policies, but BP are there to be used when you can use Custom postage and they are great for changing postage costs when the rates change.
I tried listing sheet music last night after reading your post and it is crazy that it is SD. I would just list under books or collectibles where it allows CP and do a good title. It works for dads train magazines and drill bits.

That’s not really true. Private sellers can streamline their selling with policies it doesn’t necessarily mean they are trading. They are very handy for creating pre-set prices for international shipping if the seller doesn’t want to use GSP, for example.
They were 100% a workaround to avoid SD, I can assure people it wasn’t nonsense. If that isn’t the case anymore and SD can override them, that’s a not surprising but a recent development.

Hi @technthread . I have always had business policies set up and this has not been a workaround for a long time. I personally don't think it ever was, but that ship has sailed anyway. It is not a workaround now. BPs still show, but SD takes priority. The user who suggests it sells mainly stamps which are not SD anyway.

It’s confusing as I have 2 CD’s up for sale on my private account from my own collection at £50 each. One is a large letter size, the other is a small parcel box set fwiw.
eBay haven’t tried to override my own policies on those items which remain live.

From various things that users have written it seems like there are various different versions of the website running for different people. So is it possible that while stamp-hammer is able to opt out of simple delivery the fact that they are using postage policies may just be coincidental rather than the reason for it?

Hi @technthread if you try editing it will tell you if it will change to SD.
10-11-2025 7:13 PM
I had a look quickly, I rarely sign into that account at the moment. As far as I can tell I am still firmly in the group that has business policies and can’t use SD on any item in any category even if I wanted to. I’d imagine if I delete the policies then SD would become available to me.

Hi @blacksea213 as long as you select large letter in the SD settings and select a sale price under £20 and you are in a category which then displays Custom delivery you can at that point select whatever postage policy you want. It doesn't have to be letter or large letter.

Thanks - I've just set up a few postage policies that cover the majority of what I usually charge for shipping. Hopefully that will give me control of my postage and no longer force me into Simple Delivery (with workarounds that are a pain) - because I only used Simple Delivery once and eBay charged me more than what I would have paid through my preferred option, anyway.

Well I'm a private seller and I've been able to access that link. I've now set up some policies for the most commonly used postage options and I'll see how this goes. Hopefully this works better than the work-around I've been using for a while where it often doesn't work on the 1st attempt, and any attempt at editing the listing will put me back at square 1 again.

Hard to believe for you maybe, but completely factual.
If you have postage policies set up you are always given the option to choose SD or custom postage on every item.
It was mentioned in one of the first communiques from eBay regarding SD.
What would you like me to list to prove this to you?
11-11-2025 7:19 AM
Yeah because I chose to use SD on the robe but custom postage was an option.
Here is the listing for a Denby tea set priced at £45.
As you can see SD is an option for this listing but I have chosen custom postage. It hasn't been changed back by eBay in the month that it has been listed.

If that is the case, then count yourself lucky. Other sellers who have business policies for postage as a private seller are not experiencing the same. You cannot go shouting that people just need to use postage policies to get custom delivery when, in general, it doesn’t work for most private sellers. Personally Id keep quiet about it in case it draws ebay’s attention and they come and fix it for you.
Ive always had postage policies as a private seller and Im not afforded the luxury of custom delivery on all items when using it.
