AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

But you signed up to feed the machine, we are just nodes working for ebay now, gets much worse there may be a case like UBER drivers bought against them as they had the same control over drivers as if they were employed directly by uber..............

Yes, I signed up to feed an ebay sales generating machine but ebay is now a fee generating machine that no longer relies on sales for growth in its bottom line. It now relies on selling advertising revenue, with or without a sale, BPF which offers buyers no real protection and increasing its 'take' from every transaction.
SD is all about giving ebay control of pricing for delivery and getting more levers that can be used to slowly ratchet up costs for delivery by restricting seller options and buyer's choice and by 'persuading' buyers to use whichever carrier makes most for ebay.
When a sales platform turns to advertising, made necessary by restricting sales until the seller coughs up. Interest earning forced loans from sellers disguised as security measures during verification, until delivery is proved by tracking or because of suspicious activity, draws huge revenue from payment processing and delivery management, can it still really be all that interested in sales ? Especially when, because of its past success, many sellers will still use it however bad its sales record gets.
When I started selling here I could list four or five items in a couple of hours on Sunday morning and sell most of them. Over the years with FVF on P&P, MP / loss of paypal, IS and other 'improvements' I saw nothing but declining sales at every stage. The reaction here to BPF and SD would, IMO, continue the slide but with my sales over the last 3 years falling to 13, 13 and 5, I ask you what is the point ? Stagger on for another couple of years until they reach zero ? I have better things to do.

Vtd has taken a huge chunk of their UK market at least.
Yes and it's growing exponentially, thanks to the latest cloning of ebay's categories, supported by the TV advertising. They must be laughing all the way to the bank at ebay's failure to stem the exodus of sellers (and buyers).

Ebay aren't helping themselves by making experienced sellers pick a slightly different category to offer their buyers a fair and suitable postage rate on low value LL items.
It's so stupid and irritating limiting postage options by category as real life doesn't work like that.
When making policy ebay need to start from a position of trying to be helpful rather than endlessly control, frustrate and chip away at user's freedom to do the right thing.
Ebay only have themselves to blame for the success of other places.

not to fret, I am sure the government will get around to screwing car booters in time!

not so sure i would be that optimistic! Depends on how much e bay and evri are 'in it together' so to speak. If e bay send an Evri label how many people will go through the using RM and then trying to reclaim for non usage of evri label? I prefer my option which was to leave e bay (unless they do eventually get a grip of the mess they have made). I have only ever used RM and that is what i am now doing, without any one overriding my choice.

They low-key already have, you should search "HMRC's new powers are insane" on Youtube
An accountant gives a break down of the new HMRC Connect system, it will monitor all cash flow to and from your account using AI and other advanced algo's.
No escaping it, even funds sent as birthday gifts or a cash sale for some old car parts you have lying around will be noted. Too many red flags and you receive a letter. Very opaque system that treats everyone as guilty until proven innocent.

In my case it has been the other way, i never used the other site until e bay brought in all these latest 'improvements'. Now i buy on there as well! So they lost not only my selling fees (whether or not it was sellers or buyers who paid it) but they lost my buying ones as well. Not a fortune but it all adds up.

Hello Lucy amd others,
I want to let you know that I spoke to eBay customer services about the case where I issued a refund for an undelievered item rather than eBay. They raised a case and resolved it within a week, issuing a full refund. A satisfactory outcome. I will be more careful in future about issuing refunds!
Thanks all for your help.

Funny how they've used the term "Simple delivery" when it's everything but simple.
Simple delivery created by simpletons.

I'm trying to list some sheet music. It's under £20 (even with BPF) and within the size of a large letter.
If I list it under Books, it allows me to send it using Custom Delivery. But similar items are listed under the following category:
Sports, Hobbies & Leisure > Music Instruments & DJ Equipment > Sheet Music & Song Books > Contemporary
But if I try to list it under that category, it defaults to SD.
It's so exasperating. Added to which it's taken forever to do the listing, partly due to Item Specifics and partly due to the cloning of another item left nearly all the info out (even though I ticked all info except the photos). I've got several other items of sheet music that I could list but I've lost the will to live.

Unfortunately, SD has not only severely disrupted pretty much all aspects of postage, but has also created knock-on problems elsewhere, like having to be aware of what items are exempt from SD (at the moment...) and what categories may, or may not, have SD applied to them.
There is too much to think about now - and things keep changing all the time, making listing fraught with problems, & traps for the unwary... 😱

You can use custom postage on any value or size item if you set up postage policies.
10-11-2025 7:51 AM
If you use postage policies you can opt out of SD on any item, regardless of size or value.
I have the option to use SD or custom postage on every listing because I have postage policies set up.

This is the listing for a robe I put up for sale this weekend. It's £40 and in the clothing section. I still have custom delivery available to choose as I used Postage Policies.
10-11-2025 8:41 AM
That states simple delivery will override your domestic postage policy and the simple delivery box is highlighted. Are you able to click on the custom postage? When I get that view on some items, I am unable to use custom postage and I have postage policies set up.
(not on this ID coz this ID is business therefore no SD)
