NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

"No one seems to be learning though."

Why is this so difficult for you to understand - we've learnt about the problems others have faced and decided not to risk the same problems.

Use postage policies and you don't have to use SD."

By "postage policies" do you mean custom postage?  Either you don't understand SD or you're being deliberately obtuse because I would have thought that you would know that you can only use custom postage rather than SD if the item is under £20 and fits in a large letter.   And fall within certain categories, although the ebay link about the categories isn't working so I can't check those.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I stopped selling because of Simple Delivery but I think I have concluded that even if they reverse it now, I won't be bothering to resume. The reason is the accumulation of other factors that seem to have washed ashore in the same tide, mostly the involvement of HMRC.

I realise that this isn't eBay's doing but I had planned to sell off most of my DVD collection (going on for about 250) at maybe £5 a pop but realised that I'd only sell £150 worth before eBay would be forced to report me. That, juggling prices to 'hide' Buyer Protection Fees and the general demise of eBay from e buyer's perspective as well makes me feel quite despondent.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

You sell stamps. SD is not a requirement on stamps so custom postage is available. Not everyone sells stamps or stamp sized products or products that can be sent in a light envelope.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Thanks, I should have looked at their listings earlier.  They've sold 21,000 items and currently have 7000+ for sale, so as a private seller with that level of sales, you'd expect them to know about SD, but when you realise that they're all stamps, perhaps it's no wonder that they don't understand why the people who are selling different sizes, shapes, weights and categories have had problems with SD.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Have a further look. They're not only selling  stamps.  There are listings for many different categories for items of all shapes and sizes.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Im not convinced the other items are CD. It’s mostly stamps that are being sold. That said, I have a book set up in my draft that I checked the other day that is on CD and I was expecting SD - it does have a postage policy however as I set up one years ago with free postage.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Same here.

I think, as I've read here that new sellers or sellers asked to verify / re-verify their existing personal information are being asked for their NINO whether or not they've breached either threshold, that ebay will use the reporting rules as a convenient excuse to suck up another piece of all seller's personal info.  (and by freezing accounts until the info. is forthcoming, make itself more interest by holding seller's money).

While taking my Christmas break from selling (to avoid Late Delivery defects during the Christmas delivery chaos) Free to Sell was rolled out, followed by BPF and SD.

So, in view of all the above, the increasing use of verification Holds on funds, the inevitable requirement to give ebay my NINO, the BPF and SD I've never started selling again.  There is no way that I will until ebay removes any mention that it can, under any circumstances over ride my choice of using RM only and the slightest possibility that it might decide for me, to use evri.

As during the last couple of years of selling it became increasingly clear that I wouldn't be allowed to sell more than a handful of items unless I Sponsored my listings, I can't see myself selling here again.  There are just too many negatives and too few positives.  But a big part of my decision is that ebay can over-ride my decision of which carriers I will or will not use.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The HMRC website states:

Selling personal possessions

Personal possessions are items that belong to you for your own use. You may have bought them or received them as a gift.

Personal possessions might include things like:

  • clothing
  • ornaments
  • kitchen equipment
  • table and chairs
  • jewellery
  • computers and phones

If you’re selling personal possessions you probably do not have to pay Income Tax on these.

If you sell an item for more than £6,000, you may need to pay Capital Gains Tax. The £6,000 value for a single personal possession for Capital Gains Tax, also applies to the total value of items which form a set, for example:

  • chess pieces
  • books by the same author or on the same subject
  • matching ornaments, such as vases or statuettes

Example — selling unwanted items

You’re clearing out your attic and decide to sell your unwanted items using online marketplaces. None of the items you sell are worth more than £6,000.

It’s unlikely that you’ll need to tell us about this income or pay any tax, no matter how many items you sell.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

From November Update...

More delivery options with Simple Delivery

Drop-off options with InPost and Yodel

Starting this week, private sellers will be able to drop off parcels at over 8,000 InPost lockers nationwide, available 24/7. Choose from thousands of Yodel stores across the UK, giving you more ways to send items when it suits you, with tracking and eBay-backed protection included every time.

New size option for oddly shaped items

We’ve introduced a new size option for those in-between items, up to 120cm, like golf clubs. This means you’ll receive more accurate size recommendations, ensuring the right label from the start. It also includes extra weight breaks, making it a cost-competitive alternative to the “bulky” service.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Any mention of ebay reserving the right to change a delivery to a carrier of their choice, overruling the seller's preference ?

Yes, I know that but the fact that I would be on their RADAR simply for selling £150 (30 x £5 - according to HMRC) worth of DVDs makes me feel uncomfortable.

As has been shared innumerable times on here already, the HMRC states:

Digital platforms must share sales data and some personal information for 2024 with HMRC by the end of January 2025. If you have sold at least 30 items or earned roughly £1,700 (equivalent to €2,000) using platforms like eBay or Vinted, or provided a paid-for service such as a holiday rental through Airbnb on a website or app in 2024, your platform provider will let you know that your information has been shared with HMRC.

The sheer overreach of that is oppressive and the fact that somebody less agoraphobic than me might sell 30 items a week at a car boot sale and can go home to count their profits without the government looking over their shoulder is a measure of how ridiculous and arbitrary this monitoring is.

This page still hasn't changed

In certain cases, if your preferred carrier can't accept your item, we'll provide you with a label for a carrier you've opted out of in your settings. For example, if your parcel exceeds your preferred carrier's size or weight limits, we may send your item with an alternative carrier

So even if you opt out of Evri (for example) you might still get an Evri label!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

From what I've read if you "allow" both, ebay prefers to use evri, so that's what you'll get.

Opt out of evri and ebay charges more than RM prices for an RM label (possibly changed since I last looked).

But I'm not willing to risk sending anything by evri and while the "... we'll provide you with a label for a carrier you've opted out of in your settings." stands, I won't use ebay.

If I want to send using RM.  I WILL SEND USING RM and without ebay interfering.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Shambolic isn't it?

They seem to be going a very long way round to getting us all back to square one.

Simple Delivery is a failed experiment that ebay refuse to admit to.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

If you opt for RM only, I think it would be very rare for eBay to need to substitute RM with Evri. It would probably only be someone unknowingly trying to send a larger parcel than RM will take, that would find themselves lumbered with an Evri label.

And if they did happen to default to Evri for some reason, you could always opt to not use the label, and make your own arrangements.

Of course, it is the loss of complete control over postage methods & pricing, that really sticks in the craw... 😠

Doesn't all this go to prove how non Simple , Simple delivery actually is 🙂

Perhaps if the platform was mainly selling clothing items  etc  then this would  not be so much of a challenge  .

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I sold three items today on my private account, one will go with DPD, one with Evri which I have to drive 4 miles to drop off, and one with Royal Mail, b****y nightmare!!!!

We have daily collections from Royal Mail and ParcelForce, if I had choice, they'd all be collected tomorrow.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I've had another comple cluster  today.

My first large heavy item 24kilo has had to go via  delivery using DHL, unlike other sizes, I'm locked into DHL as there isn't another option.

Now found out that I'm expected to wait in all day tomorrow for mythical collection. This is ridiculous. No drop off option and no percific time slot. No safe place option as seller has to physically hand the package to driver.

Ive sold a car part to a customer that needs it yesterday and he won't receive it until Monday.

Usually I would send via parcel force 24  drop off at local PO before 2pm, they're parcel force collection time. And customers it next day.

In what parallel universe is this exceptable.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Yes I could and then take it to the post office, let them check my parcel's weight and dimensions and paying exactly the correct postage, which is what I would have done pre-SD.

I'm not 6 years old, have been posting parcels from ebay sales for over a decade and don't need any help from them.
