AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

The email I received today said "You may have heard that we recently introduced Simple Delivery, an easier and more secure delivery solution".
Easier than what exactly? Like calling it Simple Delivery, it's just meaningless spin because whoever wrote the email thinks it sounds good and sellers will fall for it. I do wish ebay would just be honest.

At least it's a start and a good token gesture.
I agree that all these changes happening so close together will leave all of us with spinning heads.
But for once this time its a positive change that means they might finally be starting to listen.
I live in hope.

BPF is nothing to do with that though. We’re only nearing 8,000 posts….

Have we had a month so far this year when tinkerbay have not made any changes?
Will we have a month in the rest of the year without a change?
You can just imagine them sat there: Shall we have a BPF and withhold funds asks one highly paid executive?
The minions look at each other before replying:
'No, but yeah, but no, but yeah, but no, but yeah but no/yeah because''

Of course its something to do with that.
If a buyer was paying a seller who was using 48hr tracked they would know that RM 48hr tracked offered a level of cover.
So in that case why would they still need to pay any BPF charges at all.
If the platform didn't dig a hole for itself because of the "it's free to sell" lark then they could just re-introduce seller fees which made things totally transparent.

What's the we're only nearing 8,000 posts got to do with anything regarding selling ?.

Great post.
So the next tinkerbay (i like that) instalment is August 6th.
No doubt more further changes will be announced in the near future too.

Buyer Protection Fees could absolutely exist without Simple Delivery.. In fact, listings already exist that don’t use Simple Delivery AND have a BPF.
Because how much cover you ship something with or not is nothing to do with the BPF. It’s covering eBay’s costs plus their profit.
17-07-2025 5:36 PM
I figured you’d know what the BPF was by my this point
17-07-2025 5:40 PM

EXACTLY. If BPF is to cover this platforms costs and help their profits it should not be called Buyer Protection Fee.
Why not just call it Ebay Fee ?.
17-07-2025 5:44 PM
Of course I know what BPF is.
It's a extra charge levied by the platform to increase the money that is gained from private sellers and buyers.
17-07-2025 5:46 PM
Take in more money is definitely more likely than being more transparent.

I guess they probably want people to feel like they're getting something for it.

It’s optional SD that needs to be brought back, but can you really see Ebay who have no doubt got contracts with Evri and RM agreeing as revenues would be lower all round. Targets no doubt have to be met and no doubt Evri would suffer most out of the couriers. Aug 6th might bring changes but not the one we want.
17-07-2025 5:51 PM
My point exactly.
Choosing to call things by names that sound good in no way actually reflects that users are getting more for their money.
17-07-2025 5:52 PM
or buyers tax as buyers are already protected ,you don't need two protection polices ,PPI all-over again !

If they gave sellers the option of paying the platform /marketplace fee (like they can with the postage cost) then they could still say 'it's free to sell' as it could be free if you wanted your buyers to see a fee but it would still be a bit disingenuous so maybe "it's free to sell, for less, if it ever sells, because buyers are leaving, so maybe it would be better to just pay" might be clearer.

Call it Platform Fee.
Or call it Have You Considered Looking At Other Sites For This Item Fee?
Personally I think they've utterly mismanaged this introduction. Why didn't they show prices as the price before the Platform Fee, then you get charged that at checkout. Then sellers wouldn't have to keep rejigging their prices and we could go back to xx.99 type prices.
However, none of that is what this thread is about, and indeed BPF wasn't enough to discourage me from selling here. Stupid Delivery with no choice, that's the deal breaker. If it had been optional I would probably have chosen it for some of my items, using trad custom method for some others.

Very true. Although it is nice to see a couple of small positive changes being announced there is no way I'm getting my hopes up that I will start listing or selling again from 6th August. But I've always said I would not berate this platform for making any positive change that benefited it's users.
