NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

If the platform didn't dig a hole for itself because of the "it's free to sell" lark then they could just re-introduce seller fees which made things totally transparent.

If they gave sellers the option of paying the platform /marketplace fee (like they can with the postage cost) then they could still say 'it's free to sell' as it could be free if you wanted your buyers to see a fee but it would still be a bit disingenuous so maybe "it's free to sell, for less, if it ever sells, because buyers are leaving, so maybe it would be better to just pay" might be clearer.

Indeed, that's a brilliant idea.  You're a lot smarter than the top tier who are raking in millions for screwing up this site.

Very true. I'm sure most private sellers would not mind paying a reasonable fee because the platform can't do things for nothing.

That's why transparency and honesty is needed and not glossy names or marketing ploys.

The frustrating thing is that if I listed something for example say £13.50 and said the postage was £2.70 then that is what I'd expect a buyer to pay.

With paying a platform fee then fair enough. But if there was a seller fee I could price my item accordingly.

Transparency like that is what's needed again.

Exactly,  it's pointless reducing the BPF on a £1 football programme if the buyer has to pay tracked delivery at almost £3 when I  can post for under £1.

So it's disappointing as when I read the email I thought great. That was until the penny dropped about postal costs.

That is what is stopping me from selling again.

Now if SD was made optional then that would put a completely different spin on things.

Very true.

Calling it BPF when it's not is the issue. Platform fee would be so much better. As a private seller I would just want a buyer to pay the price I listed a item for with relevant postal charges on top.

NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

What's the phrase? Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Especially lurking regularly since the announcement of Stupid Delivery.
Private seller since 2000, UK, then Australia, UK again. Clearing bits of my stuff, and bits for family and friends. None of us are trying to make a profit particularly, just want to pass things on to people, rather than throwing them out. Currently selling a lot of collectable stuff for my elderly mum. Most of it has to be sold cheaply, much of it is large letter to post - or at last it was. And I've sold a lot with combined shipping in the past too.

I've weathered the new Buyers Protection Tax, muttered but coped with funds taking ages for release but August 6th will now be the end.

Postage currently is simple - keep stamps at home, put on item, drop in parcel box next to bus stop I use for work.
Because of limited mobility, plus working hours, its nigh on impossible to reach the Post Office in working hours - or for the postman to collect from me at home. And as for other couriers - at least I can do the PO by bus, anywhere else is an uber trip. And a 2-day despatch time? No chance. Stupid Delivery has finished me off.

I've always dabbled selling elsewhere but ebay has been the most lucrative until the year. I've now reduced anything I can (though most are now uneditable without the shipping changing) and am putting my account into Holiday mode from SD-Day, before removing everything.

So long ebay, thanks for all the fish, shame you are leaving loyal private sellers high and dry.

I'm sorry to hear that you feel that you'll have to look elswhere.

Definitely don't close your account because it's worth keeping a eye on future platform changes being made that might be positive.

I have always been a private seller and although I stopped selling in early April by ending my listings because SD was the final straw for me I have not totally given up hope yet that some changes might happen to make this platform viable for me again.

Just a teeny thing that may be relevant, is your PO a shop too? My local PO is in a shop and they accept parcels from time they open to time they close, so up to 9.30pm and I only discovered this recently. I assumed it was a 9-5 thing but no, if the shop is open, I can drop my parcels at the PO. Obviously this may be wrong for you. But just incase.... 😉

SD really is driving the private sellers away. You will soon need a relavent degree to understand how to list and assign the appropriate postage to an item. I thought subject categories were so that you placed your item correctly so that it could be found by the prospective buyers, not so you could find out your postal options. Private sellers tend to be casual sellers and all these rule changes are doing my head in. When you sell an item at a traditional auction house, you the seller understand that you pay a percentage to get your item sold. The buyer also understands he may need to pay a buyers premium. It’s called a buyers premium not a protection fee. Transparency is definitely the name of the game. I don’t hold an Ebay degree or one in AI, so sorry but until listing becomes straightforward again, then no more listings.

Surely by definition a fee or service should be what it is called.

Making up a name so that a fee or charge can be applied isn't right.

Saying that SD is Simple Delivery is not right either.

Maybe just maybe there will be some future announcements and possible changes that really will be beneficial for private sellers.

20 years a seller and buyer here but just received the email that everything has to be sent via ebay simple postage, this will be the end for me. I'm quite happy to sort my own postage and support my local small post office. I think this change will be very damaging to UK.

Agreed. I have only sold one item in 6 months, made no money on it, had no
views, offers or even a question. Time to start ending listings before they
introduce a fee for that!

I recently found out this too. The PO in one direction ( not the band btw)
is a 9 -5 and Saturday 9-1. The shop with a PO is 8-7 Mon to Sat where you
can drop parcels. Our parcel depot has very limited hours to collect or
take parcels, how about Monday - Friday 8am to 10am (yes 2 hours) when
most people are probably on the way to work, Saturday 8sm - 12pm ( much
more reasonable), nothing on a Sunday which I suppose is normal for a
heavily unionised company. The drawback is parking is near impossible so a
1/4 mile walk is not uncommon. Ok if you are fit and healthy. And not long
ago their new CEO was on Breakfast news bragging that they could and
intended to take on the parcel companies! So instead of competing they form
an unholy alliance with one!

Also, when you sell at a traditional auction house, they may charge a buyers premium but once you hand it over to them you don't have to do anything else, they take care of everything - listing, photographing for their catalogue, dealing with the payments and the buyer just takes it away - no packing.  You get what you pay for.

They are an agent for Yodel, but thats all. And although they do have convenience-shop stuff, they only open 9-5. Some weeks I might be able to make it on Sat mornings, but often I work then too, and it wouldn't help with the two day despatch thing.

No, its the loss of posting independently that's the killer.

I shall keep the account open for occasional buying, but as a seller, until they bin Stupid Delivery, I'm (sadly) done.

Definitely, and could work for a lot of people.

A bit OT, but when I went to give "Kudos" for that message, Kudos has become "helpful". Is that because I'm now logged in or did something happen during today?!

A guy from a physical auction house took away a few boxes of my comics and
will auction them in August. If I'm happy with the sales I have thousands
of comics to sell and can offload them in bulk rather than a few issues at
a time on ebay. SD has scared me off ebay big time.
