AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

They are also charging the 75p fixed element so if an average ebay sale is £20 then they are making 75p+80p equals £1.55 which is 7.75%.
Even worse on a low value item such as a £2 DVD plus £2.70 RM tracked postage (should be only £2.00 by Royal Mail large letter with proof of posting) so the DVD cost goes up from £2 to £2.83 (an increase of 41.5%) plus an extra 70p on the postage so the total cost to the buyer goes up from £4 to £5.33, an overall increase of 133%!!

Yup. I used to buy the occasional Blu Ray on ebay for the kids to watch but now it's better for me to buy a custom bundle of them at the clothing platform.

"If anyone still has any hopes that these restrictions can be reversed they should be deleting their listings stopping buying here. Not saying they will but waiting for everyone else to go first"
Couldn't agree more, I stated basically the same thing a while back in the comments, but I got a "Friendly Note" from eBay informing me they were taking the comment down,as I was not allowed to say such things...!

I thought I'd give in and start to use simple delivery given that I use royal mail anyway and have deselected Evri. However stuff like CDs, if I go through custom delivery I can choose the weight as 500g max which is ample for the likes of a CD, this costs £2.40. If I do "simple" delivery I can either choose 100g which isn't enough or 1kg which makes the postage too expensive for the likes of a CD... Not very simple given we aren't supposed to over charge on P&P 🙄

Now converted to sd. So not selling my vinyl records here any more. Looking for somewhere else. It's crazy I sold 6 lps last week so ebay gets the buyers tax. Now because of no custom postage they get nothing as not selling. So if there was a choice of sd or custom. They would make money of both systems. Whoever is in charge has no idea of business sense. Why only get money from postage and buyers tax. When they could get just buyers tax from those who won't do sd.

Hi, I did read your solution, but got sidetracked before I could reply, and yes it could work, but I think you don't want the Buyer to be paying any Buyer tax at all.... And as they are paying 4% now already, they ain't gonna want to pay 5% .... So I think the seller needs to be bearing the final valuation fee .

I don't know if it has already been suggested but let's say an item is listed at an excessive price unlikely to attract bidders (I know some sellers do it for different reasons) then you'll keep the details intact. The question in my mind is, would there be any consequences from eBay for doing that?
Does anyone with experience of this know the answer?

We're not BUT it's OK for ebay to do it.
17-06-2025 4:22 PM
I'm good with it....but I still think any fees for the Buyers need to be gotten rid of

Yeah mine no longer has advanced options as of this months new listings.
Sad, been selling my old gaming stuff now (mainly to fund new stuff since 2004 ish) pretty much 100% clean (I think 2-3 negs over the period, always something daft as well, like one fella buying last moment and thinking he was getting Legend of the 5 Rings booster packs when the listing and all the info clearly noted it was for the Koku on said packs that were clearly opened and empty in the pics, Koku was a thing you could collect and send off for gifts but mostly a US thing) in all very happy responses to my packaging and the fact I treated it like I was professional on the service side of things, even though its always been my old gamer stuff I no longer want or needed as a private seller.
The wait after payment change was slightly annoying especially if I wanted it quick for a preorder etc, it did make me drop international sales after years due to now wanting that kind of wait for funds, but it was doable UK side, but this new Simple delivery is just not worth the hassle, I also buy additional packaging for protection on the miniatures side (plastic tubs, lots of bubblewrap) and although I didn't take a lot I factored some for those costs and can't do that with simple delivery.
If it gets changed down the road, or someone forces their hand I'll happily come back, but yeah, I just want to be able to write out the label, take it to the lovely staff at my local Post Office and send them off. So back to the sales boards online, Dakka Dakka and like, its not as reliable, or efficient, folks can't see my rating for reassurances they might need, but I'm not supporting this change.
I could of course left without a word, but damn it, been here so long, it hurts a little how they have basically turned their backs on one of the reasons this place used to be so great, Private selling.

Ron, it was fine as it was before. Didn't mind the fees, got the FVF sometimes. Turning back the clock a year would be good. Not happening. Nice to meet you and your messages. Xx

I've been selling here from around 2004, I was a business seller up until 2013, it allowed me to be 'at home Mum' for my youngest. It was great to have this platform do this and overall a positive experience, even with the changes that caused problems back then and there were quite a few lol.
Since 2013 I have been a private seller, now...was, up until a few weeks when I ended the couple of listings I had. I doubt I will be selling anytime soon with all these latest changes. Like many I have adapted and continued to sell both as business and private.
I just can't be bothered now! Simple Delivery was the final straw.
Today I listed two items on a different platform, sold within an hour. One listing had 50 watchers. Granted I did not get as much money as I would here, that's okay, but it reminded me of how Ebay used to be. I will be spending the money I receive on the platform I earned it on.
I'm posting this message (I don't normally post) just to add to the others. Not sure what will draw me back here. I do hope something does. Watching this space.

Sold an item this morning and then after getting home from work I packed it up and arranged collection by RM like I usually do. Then just now I see the email from ebay with the postage label and it says drop off by today... They can't seriously expect everyone to be able to despatch the same day when some rely on collection. I am not walking 2 miles with a 10kg large box. Thanks for making things "simple" ebay...

Just a little update on combined postaged.
Relisted a couple of things yesterday put them on using simple delivery postage just to see.
Most of them ebay got the right size of parcel and weight if it was recommended wrong I changed it to the correct one.
Happened to sell two first thing this morning to the same person.
They were done in the same transaction so ebay combined the postage cost straight away.
1 was listed at small parcel 1kg (ebay recommended) and the other was medium parcel 2kg (I changed it)
Go to the label to print and it was for 3kg medium parcel at a charge of £6.65 so just a little bit cheaper than going through RM direct. But it did keep to what had been done on the listing and added them together.
The info after downloading the label said post by the 19th, the label says post by the 24th (this is probably an expire date for the label). Then took it to the post office.
No size or weight on the actual label.

Ha! 'Simple' ebay and their 'simple' delivery thinks that a pair of bikini bottoms (pants) offered for £1.00 is a small parcel of 1kg minimum. Absolutely no option to change the package size/weight or opt out of simple delivery and used custom postage. So someone will be wanting to pay, what was it, £3.45 or something for a £1 item? Sure they will. NOT!
This is what ebay cupidity, IT and AI brings to the table - nonsense!
To quote an old saying: Too clever by half!
18-06-2025 10:25 AM
Completely agree... already took some items down and the rest will be following. eBay have taken a step too far, I would literally lose money on the items that are already listed. Not a happy eBay bunny!!

Don’t worry Ebay have Coupon system now :-), All sellers and buyers get random coupons. ( What a Joke) . I am not selling here any more just finishing off the last items until Ebay sorts them selves out or sell the business to someone who can run it not Ruin it.
