AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I use and like SD and have send quite a few parcels by it lately since it began.
yes you can definitely contact buyer as I have done so every single time (saying something like “thanks for buying, I will package up and send soon”. Some reply and some don’t.
you have to press a button to “get the label” which for me is a Evri QR code (I don’t have a printer). I press that straightway and yes I think I have 2 days or something like that to use it (but I have just checked an old one - now used) and it doesn’t have an expiry date on it.
I have posted on Sundays. I have posted at 10pm at night. That’s why I like EVRI as I can do that 0.3 miles from where I live (two locations actually) and at odd times.
I’ve sold 26 times this year. All sent by Evri. 100% success rate. Good tracking. Fast delivery.
SD is 10 mins faster than “normal” Evri to produce label - that’s why I like it. And for me cheaper too (I was charging £5.39 for the same thing under Evri it’s now £4.06 under SD).

If there is no expiry date for the label why does it have to be used within 2 days? And what happens when a seller is away from home?
Normally you'd just contact the buyer and let them know when you'll be posting but if a buyer has already paid for a label can you still use that 3 days or 2 weeks later?
Or is it safer to buy another label and then claim back postage from Ebay using that postage reclaim form if you can find it? Given that Ebay will eventually be refunded for the unused one.

Probably not a good idea to base my response on a used label already sent as expiry date might vanish on use. So don’t know for sure. You have to press a button to get the label - there must be an allowed delay on that as I have pressed it next day after sale etc. with no problems. I do post mine quickly as I want the money! I don’t use RM as opening times, location and poor tracking don’t suit me.

Have had the *send by Sunday* before but haven't taken any notice of it as its a bit daft, but on the whole the delivery dates seem to be pretty close.
Found you can contact the buyer if you want to as there's a *message buyer* in the drop down menu besides the order.

You need to read how Simple Delivery works.
Labels do expire and if you don't use an SD label paid for by the buyer, it is the buyer that gets the refund.

Thanks, it's been a while since I read about SD and it seems to have been developing on a daily basis. Luckily for me I haven't been forced to test it at all, so far.
I guess if the label is no longer available for a seller to print then it must have expired? In which case a seller would have to approach the buyer somehow to fund a replacement? But I was under the impression that there was a claim form on Ebay somewhere for when seller buys a label?
It feels like there are still too many variables in play to make using SD an intuitive or seamless process.

i agree, as a buyer automated feedback means nothing to me, it tells me absolutely nothing positive about the seller.

Someone private messaged me a couple of days ago to say they had been permanently banned from the forum so I am assuming that their posts go with them (or at least the offending ones that caused the ban!)
24-05-2025 11:11 AM
Yes they do, you won’t be able to access them on here!

Not for me to tell you what to do but be careful replying, if you still have their message, you may find yourself banned too if you do

I have just had to use Simple Delivery for the first time.
All my listings are Royal Mail 2nd Class and free to the buyer and have had no problems at all.
With Simple Delivery I had to pay nearly £2 more for the postage label as it was 24hr Tracked which cancelled out most of any money I got for the item.
I could not even cancel the label!
I have adapted to all the changes eBay have imposed over the last 20 years but this may well be the final straw.
If I could opt out I would.

Exactly the reason I don't list low value items that would have been large letter that I could post for £1.55.
I now only list on eBay those items that are under £10 and under 100g that will fit within a letter that I can post for 87p. Anything larger simply isn't worth all the extra charges that eBay add on, such as the high 'tracked postage' costs and buyers premium surcharge.

Afraid I can't recommend ebid, only had 2 sales in 2 years.

Also the price of the postage was not shown beforehand so I had no idea how much I was being charged.
I then could not cancel the label.

In my opinion there was a time when becoming a business seller was progression for higher volume sellers and is something I considered in the past but I never really sold enough to take it further. Now even if I wanted to I don't have the necessary credentials to go that step . I would also require me to buy a lot more just make it remotely viable .
Now , my opinion being a business seller is far more aligned with being and established business or a sole trader . That is creating an unhealthy divide and is not good for anyone
My opinion on SD it is the 1st phase of a global Ebay delivery set-up and will be applied to all sellers to maximise Ebay revenue stream . Other changes such a BPF and delayed payment are all intertwined in this long term strategy .
Given that the start that Ebay have had with SD in the UK not going to make that easy . I would say Ebay have been rushed into SD when they weren't ready for it , they really need to a far longer time to set up an Ebay delivery set-up and get it to a trusted status before imposing it . As an option it should have been promoted far more positively and not named SD .
It is going to be interesting to see how things progress but in my opinion Ebay will have to make radical change in direction to rectify the damage . I think they probably have until September to sort it out

Some people assume that I should be a business seller give the total sales I have made and assume I buy all those things to sell on, not that it's any of their business but actually I don't. I have managed to sell some very expensive things over time and for information I file a tax form and list my purchases and sales etc and if any tax is due I pay it. One of the reasons that I didn't want to be a business seller is that your personal details, address, phone number etc are there for all to see and why should I have to allow that. It won't matter soon anyway as I am gone but I will continue to keep in the good books of HMRC and fill iny return etc.

It's not just the SD thing, wait a while, something else will come along too, goal posts constantly moving, the anxiety and stress of it at times, just not worth the hassle. Can't be bothered with them anymore, had my time for 10 years, that's enough.
