AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Effectively Ebay have annihilated the middle area of their business , so although some seller my upgrade to business sellers as a result of recent action , however many if forced would just stop selling if Ebay insisted on them upgrading .
eBay have no right to force sellers to upgrade to business sellers, with all the tax implications of 'trading'. A private seller is perfectly entitled to sell off unwanted items, possessions passed down from deceased parents, surplus items from their collections, or from clearing out the loft or garage, without having to declare the proceeds to HMRC.
Quote from gov.uk website:
You’re clearing out your attic and decide to sell your unwanted items using online marketplaces. None of the items you sell are worth more than £6,000.
It’s unlikely that you’ll need to tell us about this income or pay any tax, no matter how many items you sell.
So private sellers are simply that and should resist before forced to upgrade to a business account.

Just received an email from eBay saying:
"Let’s improve your listings
The following listings aren't performing well – but you can change that. We've curated recommendations designed specifically to improve the chances of selling the items below."
They had the cheek to ask whether the email was helpful at the end with a survey.
I have only recently relisted items that are under £10 and fit in an envelope that I can post for 87p by Royal Mail.
This was my response:
"Total eBay propaganda. You've made it as difficult as possible to list anything larger than a letter sized envelope and under £10 because not only is your so-called 'simple delivery' very complicated, it is expensive too, especially for low valued items that are already adequately covered in case of loss or damage by Royal Mail's own compensation. You charge a premium on postage that I could get more cheaply myself, added to the unnecessary buyer protection surcharge make everything so expensive"
I used all of the 500 letters that they allowed!

They could also help listings to perform better if they didn't manipulate the search results, ie:
- don't mess up the Low-High price order by showing more costly items above cheaper ones;
- don't intersperse completely random items into the search results which bear no relation to the search terms;
- stop littering the search results with sponsored/promoted items;
- show ALL relevant items in the organic search results, instead of missing some out of the list because they've been put in with the sponsored items.

It seems simple delivery is not available for certain small items no idea very strange how its mandatory then only available for certain items.
Ebay seem to be back tracking. I think they've realised they made a big mess up and it was someone not intouch with ebay culture who made these changes.

Agreed, strange and odd decisions on a regular basis. Let’s hope things change for the better although I am not holding my breath.

My first thought was does DHL realise what they are taking on.
14-05-2025 8:38 PM
My thoughts are this could dovetail in with Ebay's "real" longer term plan of an Ebay delivery service . DHL may add the "quality" that Evri lack plus better coverage .

As a matter of interest, are there currently any private seller accounts which are SD only, with no option for custom postage? I’m getting the impression that accounts which were previously SD-only have had custom postage added back, but I might be wrong.

Both ceos lauding their services
evri saying they’re top for reliability LOL
Yeah right
so I guess they’ll be naming the new company superman

I noticed that Evri will be offering a letter delivery service. It could be included in Simple Delivery at some future date.

Its interesting as it quoted as just a UK deal with Evri getting "naming" rights . To me DHL should be the senior partner given their pedigree however , that might be seen as too hostile to the Royal Mail in the UK .
I haven't used Evri for years and very few Ebay parcels I have received in the last year are Evri , so the opinion amongst fellow Ebayer's is pretty clear . However where Evri seem to be growing is relationships with retail vendors and platforms and that's why long term I think will be Ebay's "delivery partner"
Evri have really struggle with individual customer relations issues but if retailers and platforms such as Ebay sell their service then they don't handle those services directly . For Evri its easier just to compensate rather than try and find things , speak to customers etc !
I bought my 1st thing from VTD a week ago and that was sent by Evri and I also got the postage half price . first time buyer !. So if Evri do get their act together and stop losing so many parcels who knows ?

of course they have the right, it is their company. Just like they have the right to decide we should get our postage through them. I have the right to say no way, which is what i will be doing when SD really takes effect. I do not like it, will keep on complaining to add weight to others doing the same but in the end they can do what they want (as long as it is legal) E bays classification of what and what is not a business is not the same as HMRC. All they are required to do is report anyone selling over 30 items/£1700 and that is a government ruling agreed with other countries.

I totally agree , if the seller is responsible for packaging and doesn't get paid until after delivery then dictating a courier is fundamentally unacceptable , especially when you have good reason not to trust Ebay's chosen courier.
As said I think Ebay will probably go with Evri/DHL(Ebay delivery service) as the main courier but that can only be made acceptable to seller if payment is made when the courier gets hold of the parcel and there is no delayed payment .

'DHL may add the "quality" that Evri lack plus better coverage .'
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to the report, DHL 'focus on secure higher-value deliveries like computers and phones....while evri handle higher volumes of lower-value goods'.
Perhaps this will be ebay's way around the 'exclusion list problem'.
In that computers and phones (along with a huge number of other items) are currently excluded from S.D. as evri won't cover them......
14-05-2025 10:27 PM
I think DHL are infinitely more trusted to deliver those kind of things ! I would shudder to think what Evris loss rate would be for those kind of items
This year I have had more Ebay packages delivered by DHL than Evri , one was a desktop computer and the other were computer desks . So its not just higher value items its bulkier items as well .
So that exclusion list will get smaller and will open up the joys of SD etc to be offered to (imposed on ) business sellers as well .
In term of Evri loss rate a key part of this deal with DHL must be to reduce that dramatically

Just wondering what with all these changes that are being introduced it wouldn't surprise me if next we'll be forced into dealing in bitcoin😡, surely the final nail in the coffin 🔨

Can’t you use Royal Mail send parcels from home. They collect from your doorstep and bring labels so no printer needed and it’s a bit cheaper than the post office.
