NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I echo your sentiments.

A difference of opinion on a discussion board is one thing, taking a dis-agreement here to the real world is another and very wrong.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I've just tried to relist one of the items I took down this week. It's a 'Buy it Now' listing with free postage, £3.99. Here's what I'm seeing:

  • £3.99 remains in place, but it's then trying to add the postage at the end, so I've had to switch it to "seller pays".
  • "Allow Offers" is the default as before, and is hidden, as before. Switched that off.
  • "Good 'til cancelled" is the only option for duration of listing - I was happy with this before but what is it doing there if that is the ONLY option??
  • Package size - I want to send mine as Large Letter up to 250g 2nd Class for £1.76. The only option I'm getting for Large Letter is 1st Class up to 1KG for £2.74. RM site shows up to 750g (that's the highest for large letter - don't know what weighs that much with the dimensions restrictions! slab of granite?) at £3.30 so that's cheaper if I did have a heavy item, but I don't and I'm being charged more than RM would charge me if I went to the Post Office or, like I've always done, bought my postage from their website and not via eBay.
  • I only have the Simple Delivery option. There is a 'choose couriers' link - only RM or Evri.
  • When I preview it is now showing my £3.99 price, but I'm supposed to be paying 98p more towards the postage. That's outrageous for a low-cost item and will stop me sending offers to watchers (which eBay continually nags me to do).

So, sadly, I'm not seeing what others are seeing (reverting to previous options) and my listings will remain removed.

My own 'footfall' as a buyer will also reduce now, because of inflated prices and poor delivery experiences since April.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That's a great point about poor delivery service since April, I hadn't joined the dots but you're absolutely right: more deliveries are now coming via Evri for me rather than royal mail and I've had to chase up more packages since then than I did in all of last year. That is another consequence of the new system, not only is it worse for sellers but the buying experience is now also objectively worse. You don't have any idea when something is dispatched either, because it's marked as such when the label is printed rather than when it's actually been dropped off.

If Simple Delivery is better than custom, why not make it optional as people will naturally choose the superior method. If it isn't better, why are they doing it? The answer of course is money, but it wouldn't do to admit that.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Thanks for the message - I tried to send another response to you stating "Forgot to add, thanks for your input. I do appreciate it." - but eBay says I have reached my limit for sending private messages. I have sent one.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I also feel that Evri's approach to delivery has changed recently and I'm now wondering if they have different policies for Simple Delivery items compared with other 'regular' deliveries. Like they won't automatically try a neighbour for me now and I have to go into the app (where I have been known to speak out loud that there is nothing "simple" about this! and don't start me on "two day delivery" because that is a joke).

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I think this may be a reason why they have used the UK for this launch as we probably aren't as hot on regulation as the EU or perhaps the US in terms of litigation .But then if that is the case then some time Ebay are going to hit that issue when they expand  to other markets.

I think there are things they are saying and doing that could be considered pushing the boundary .  BPF is mis- leading to any consumers especially if they don't explain the consumer rights without BPF   and that won't just impact Ebay . That is the most likely area that could be clamped down on  .

In terms of the CMA stuff then its more like the deal between Ebay and RM that prejudiced PO's as individual businesses that could have more traction , unless the sub PO's earning the same for handling as they did for selling a label !

Ebay acting as a bank etc  might have implication as well especially if they add unreasonable delays to their own financial  benefit .

What Ebay are doing is not without risk and even if it is totally legit in terms of legislation its lack of customer satisfaction is a massive risk regardless.

Naturally there is a degree of bias to my opinion but I am not really seeing anything from Ebay of other customers that contradicts my opinion .

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That's a great post.

The worst thing I've heard and read are "these changes will benefit everyone" I have never known a statement to be so untrue.

You are also right to mention that no consideration whatsoever has been given to people who cannot get about.

Even if some further amendments are made which I am sure will happen it is still a case that SD costs a lot of sellers more money, and I will never use a substandard company like evri.

To mark item as dispatched.

Go to all orders.  To the right of ‘View order details’ there is a circle with 3 dots. Click on that.

it changed in April.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That is a great post with some good information.

Apart from sellers that have now started using other platforms, the number of unhappy sellers is not receding much.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

When my money started being held I made sure I withdrew it as soon as it was available if I sold something.

I will not let anyone hold my money longer than I have to without it being a choice that I made.

Oh if only things were made optional instead of mandatory then all sellers could make their own common sense choices again instead of so many things being enforced.

Hopefully it's a sign that things might be changing and not just a false hope that will all change yet again on the 20th.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Even if things were to change for the better it will take so so long to repair the damage that has been caused and it will take even longer and take a lot of concessions for people to have trust and possibly forgive, but they'll not forget.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That just shows that even agents are giving their own take on things and definitely are not singing from the same hymn sheet.

No wonder their is no trust or belief here anymore. How on earth can you follow the rules when you are told different things by different agents, and the rules keep changing.

The only person I can think of who could dream a scenario like this up, would be Steven Spielberg.

Same I learned to do this decades back. Instant withdraw. After unscrupulous buyers & ebay dirty theft. After that if they wanted to refund scammers it was on them

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

If its a blocked number , doesn't that mean the phone drops the call.  I assume you meant number withheld

If it happens again I would  consider reporting it

Make sure you look for key signs like does the caller know your name and ask them where they got your number  from   etc ?

The only time I can re-call having to give a buyer my phone is for home collection  .

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

You're right - I should have said withheld number. I certainly will report it if it happens again. Business sellers need to have their contact details displayed on their listings.
