AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Yeah it's crazy that ebay has even gone live without the ability to combine buyer fee and shipping let alone profiting from the waste they create.
It's just a complete lack of regard for what anyone might reasonably expect that's so unbelievable.
There is another place that does this so well sellers can even offer automatic bundle discounts across different items. Ebay are rank amateurs by comparison.

just been high with pickup charges by royal mail (May 1st) so now slower despatch times as only going to drop of when going that way (not paying extra when postman is here anyway ) ahhhh

I am in a similar position, but actually take the opposite view. I am selling a cigarette card collection steadily over the next year or so, auctions and ebay. The no selling fee and simple delivery actually works really well as far as I am concerned. I tend to put things on for £10 or more, maybe £5 some times, but that adds to the simplicity. I have no issues with it at all, but we all see things differently I guess

Steve and Jamie both also managed to escape acknowledging any of the seller and buyer backlash to C2C initiatives in the UK that have delayed private seller payouts, introduced a Buyer Protection Fee that users immediately began trying to find ways to circumvent, and upended shipping with not ready for prime time mandated use of Simple Delivery.

However, this slide showing Q2 2025 guidance shows eBay is not likely to back down on any of those changes as they've clearly set expectations that the Buyer Protection Fee and Simple Delivery will meaningfully contribute to achieving 1-3% Revenue growth.

As always, a great post from Liz Morton
Realistically, it's too early to see any effects of the Buyer Prevention Fee or Simple Delivery, but the figures do show things as rather flat, perhaps understandable in the current economic situation, and probably broadly acceptable. Next quarter's equivalent statement will be interesting.

ebay clearly have high hopes for their 'C2C initiatives' from private sellers/buyers as they're stating 'expect take rate to increase Q/Q driven by a full quarter contribution from UK C2C Buyer Protection Fee and ongoing Managed Shipping ramp'. There will be no change of course unless the figures really fall short of expectations. At the moment the best that may be hoped for is that ebay clears the mess up and makes things workable.
Interesting they refer to simple delivery as Managed Shipping.

I don't expect the buyer tax to go away but would prefer ebay simply called it a platform or marketplace fee or something less disingenuous and offensive than protection. I would also like them to only charge the fixed element once on combined orders as happens at the other place. It will contribute to revenue growth given they didn't charge anything in the crazy period.
They will also be able to recognise the SD as revenue but the problem is that it isn't fit for purpose, good value, doesn't combine, etc.

From that link under shipping tag mandated use of simple delivery
What’s all that about?
As previously noted sellers will want to pay careful attention to the section on returns - eBay says the seller may be responsible for refunding the buyer the original shipping costs, even though that shipping amount is not paid to the seller.
What happens if the buyer wants to return an item?
Should the buyer request a return, you may be responsible for refunding the buyer any outbound delivery costs for the label provided to you (including for express delivery), in addition to the item cost. See 'How to handle a return request as a seller' for more information.

Another gem buried in their report:

I don’t know
maybe it’s an example of eBay not wording things right ?
🤷🏻
outbound shipping costs ..the original outbound postage or the return postage
or maybe the author got it wrong
having too many blonde moments sorry

Why on earth is the outward postage ever the sellers' responsibility under Sinful Delivery? Those goal posts are getting wider every day!
(Not shooting the messenger Ed-Dreams - just feeling my eyeballs bleeding 😩)

What are the circumstances where a seller has to refund postage?

Give ebay 24 hours and they'll think of something! 😒

I've just had a look at the Simple Deliveries t&cs to see if they could shed any light on seller being responsible for refunding postage. What they say is
Items purchased by your buyer via the Services may be covered by theeBay Money Back Guarantee. Should the buyer request a return, you may be responsible for refunding the buyer any delivery costs associated with the Simple Delivery label provided to you (including for express delivery), in addition to the item cost.
There's no explanation as to why sellers who did not receive the postage money may be responsible as opposed to ebay who did. One for the next community chat for some clarification perhaps.
I also noticed -
If you amend the predicted dimensions and weight of your item at the point of listing, and the item is found to be underdeclared, eBay reserves the right to charge you for the under declaration as well as for any applicable administration or other fees.
So change the dimensions and get it wrong and a seller could be charged for undetermined fees.

Ive No idea , sorry

Thank you very much for posting that article on Value Added Resource. I noticed another article on the same page about how ebay is now using personal data to train its AI programs and I've started a new thread about it rather than derail this one.

So are royal mail not collecting parcels for free from you anymore ?,or is it because of SD . At the moment I am still able to send all my items the old way no simple delivery .Most of my stuff is under £10 and is clothing so will go as a large letter .When I go to put the postage in i click on the box that says postage only ,then the collection only ,then back in the postage only and 2 more boxes appear one being custom postage which is without SD ,so I click on that and then add the postage costs where it says to.

At the moment I am still able to use the old system ,like you say quicker and easiar ,but even the post office is quiet these days ,no one at the counter . My partner is using SD his own choice he hasn't been made too ,but he never has to wait to use the printing machine in the evri shop there doesn't seem to be anyone sending parcels like they were .

Nothing to do with SD they have just decided to start charging. Originally it was to have been 72 p per item but they kept delaying it for a couple of years. 30p is not too bad but it's a lot on a letter or large letter so i can take those to the post box. They used to pick all of it up for free even letters.
I haven't been selling for a month with all this confusion going on have just put some back on so that i can see when SD goes on them
