AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

"This business. of......"or whatever the customer chooses" What the blazes is THAT? "
It means say one of your books is guessed at 1kg medium parcel £3.44 by RM the buyer can choose a cost of £3.44 standard tracked delivery (RM Tracked 48) or
£4.25 express tracked delivery (RM Tracked 24).
Which the buyer pays to Ebay and you just print out the label then post

Just to get back to the main reason this thread was started has anyone who is still selling had their listings changed to SD (as stated definitely the 28th 🤷) or are eBay still faffing around with this ludicrous plan of theirs.

I removed all my listings about a month ago due to simple delivery and haven't put anything on since. I assume that if I were to list anything over letter size I'd be forced into using SD now.

The complete silence from ebay says its a faf at the moment.
Is the weekly chat due at 2pm today ??
Maybe someone will shed a light there ??

They are still faffing around which is fine by me but as soon as i'm unable to set my own postage method i'm pulling my listings.

The latest edition of Computer Active magazine has picked this up as a story, and even mentions this thread.

Following on my thoughts of last night 🙂
I would go as far as saying Ebay's prime aim in enforcing the use of SD for all private sellers from the 15th April is their way to ensure all private seller will have to send their parcels track and trace and that tracking is directly linked to Ebay systems . For Ebay they need that for all their other wonderful changes to work properly.
Everything they have done does seem to fit into that argument. Letters of certain value have to be exempt as they would normally be sent with a simple stamp and posted in a letter box.
If this is the case then why I strongly object to SD as a private seller ,as I was already doing what Ebay wanted and in a far better way than SD would allow me to . You can't blame those private sellers who choose to use traditional was of posting as that is the accepted norm .
If I am right then there are other ways Ebay could have done this with or without the likes Free to Sell, BPF etc . The system I was using meant I had lost a single package since covid and their is real benefit of printing you own labels and Ebay could have done more to promote this approach and the more you convince other seller to use the same approach it is genuine win /win .
However you cannot avoid the fact that SD has been a total joke in its implementation and if they wanted to avoid this mess then they should have done far more make SD a favoured option for sellers.
As I keep saying SD only becomes the money spinner Ebay want when nearly all items sold on Ebay use Ebays own delivery service . Fitting SD into business sellers is going to very difficult . An issue that is becoming more apparent is the void between Private and business sellers and SD makes that worse . To me that gap / void is a business opportunity that Ebay have failed to exploit .

Hope you do, Ebay needs to learn without us Ebay is nothing.

I'm not sure that being on 'MSN News', whatever that it, constitutes plenty of media coverage.

Simple delivery model is a copy cat from Vinted. Ebay have taken everything Vinted have as a process and slapped it on their business thinking people won’t notice. Where is the Survey Ebay do to check what are users looking for as a service improvment????? I don’t think there is one, Ebay have become very complacent and think everything they do is right. ( IS IT? )
On the way Ebay are loosing users left right and center, The Ebay interface has become control freak, do as I say.
Ebay if your reading this, time to put things in Reverse gear because this road to SD and BP has a dead end.

I was sent an ebay questionnaire/survey on selling as a private seller about a month ago. It was operated by a third party and was seriously broken. Entering data in their free text field disabled the survey steps and you couldn't move through the process. I emailed as I really wanted to complete the survey. No reply.

It's really not - the other place does managed delivery so much better that people don't hate it.
eg. The delivery prices are reasonable and look like what it would cost to buy direct so no obvious profiteering. There are no penalties for expressing a preference to be RM only etc. The list of carriers is longer and some are as little as £2.29 for a parcel rate. The buyers can actually see the names of the delivery companies that the seller is willing to offer (no hiding behind standard/express). Combined orders are possible without paying the fixed element of the buyer fee twice and the marked up delivery fee twice. You even sometimes get an automatic seller bundle discount that helps to cover buyer fee.
What ebay have implemented is nothing like the other place it's just an awful stinking mess.
A couple of £1 listings would cost around £5 total at that place and around £10 here.

A a private seller I have been using RM48 with printed labels for the last year so my items were always tracked on delivery , so if Ebay could always track my delivery but as this post indicates there are lots of sellers out there that still use hand written labels and go to the post office etc and that won't work under the new set-up and perhaps that what SD is really about now.
The problem is that SD is disproportionately expensive for low value (under £20) small items which would have been sent by standard Royal Mail second class post as a large letter for just £2, and for which a proof of posting gives adequate cover in the event of loss. At £2.70 tracked, plus 'buyer protection', puts the cost to the buyer up significantly, to the extent that it's no longer viable for the private seller.

That is very much a problem of the SD deployment and not something I on top off as I am not selling
There really is no excuse for Ebay charging more for service that could be either bought through Ebay on-line or whoever web site before they implemented SD. It could be its an "adjustment" for getting away with over size packets .
The bottom line is not fit for purpose and really should have remain an option until they made it work properly .
If my supposition about why SD was implemented in this way is correct , and tracking parcels was imperative then they just needed to inform private sellers that they needed to update Ebay with a tracking reference or advised if they can't then use SD as that will do it for them

Welcome to the world of Ebay where everything wrong is also right because the computer say so, some of the support agent are well rude depending on which country and which person you are connected. I had to hop to 4 departments person to person to ask for a Simple Delivery refund and after over an hour the support person said, COMPUTER SAY NO! Unable to refund postage for an item I have posted already. I mean where is this business going?
