AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

"If you choose to purchase your own delivery label separately, you’ll have to cover the cost. "
So do they mean you can click through to label, get the buyer's name and address, then ignore the label and use your own postage? So if the buyer has already paid for the label, do they get refunded or does ebay keep it? And how does ebay know that the buyer should be refunded anyway? It seems to be yet more wading through treacle.
PS. The body of their letter that andyf117 posted has disappeared. Oh, it's been removed by a mod.

Not directly relevant to this SD thread, but I also received a response to my follow-up to yesterday's reply to my formal complaint regarding BPF, and there being no provision to opt out of it - note the highlighted section, perhaps due to my assertion that unless such an option is provided, I will escalate the matter by lodging a formal complaint with the relevant statutory authority (in this instance, The Financial Ombudsman, as eBay is regulated by the FCA):

RM T&Cs state that you can claim compensation for
lost item ( not delivered after 10 working days).
Item delivered but no signature obtained.
delayed delivery.
And also items are deemed lost after 17 working days.
I've had a successful claim for the whole amount (item value and postage paid) when the item was finally delivery 20 days later.
The claim time frame starts from the estimated delivery date.

Can't you just trade you stamps in at a local post office ? I though stamps were supposed to treated like legal tender .
The problem Ebay have with Simple Delivery they need it to be across the board to be the money spinner their CEO thinks it should be and that won't happen if its only optional or mandatory for new . For every £1 Ebay earn the couriers have been earning £2 for the business the Ebay platform has generated and Ebay want a bigger cut for themselves .
I also think for their new BPF systems to work then all private sellers have to be using SD .
In reality one of the biggest lies about Simple Delivery is Ebay have the right to opt of your package if its outside of their cosy little deal . I think why low end packages fall outside is the couriers are interested and won't underwrite any loss or damage . In reality Ebay should be able to process anything that is not considered freight . I.E a one person lift . I would imagine at some stage Ebay intend to cover this but "some stage" may well never happen

Gold, silver and even watches are on the Ebay restricted list, you can't send them Simple Delivery. Unless they keep the Custom option for postage I don't know how you deselect Simple Delivery for these items once the Custom option disappears.

Seeing in another thread mention of Yodel and DPD being offered as SD options? Anyone got those yet?

You cannot trade in stamps at Post Office. You can either use them or sell them.

"my biggest gripe is that I can’t use my stamps"
After the intervention of "This is Money", one person eventually received a refund from Royal Mail. Might be worth trying if you have a large amount.

"I also think for their new BPF systems to work then all private sellers have to be using SD"
As a result of my follow-up to the response to my formal complaint about BPF, specifically asking why there is no provision to opt out of it for those of us who neither want nor require it, the reply included a statement that the option to opt out will be introduced in upcoming site updates.
It wasn't a response from senior management, obviously - but the statement has nonetheless been made, in writing.

seeing as nobody's listings have changed yet to SD, i wonder if hopefully there is some poor bloke who works for ebay having to go through everyone's listings and manually change them all himself to SD .. that would be great

They’re not in SD (now)
At least they’re not in the postage preferences settings
Nor have there been any announcements I don’t think

I am surprised they did get a refund. The buyer said: "I made the purchases over a number of days using my credit card and hadn’t realised until later that I had spent more than £1,000 on the stamps." After all, how can somebody be so stupid and not know they have spent over £1000 on stamps?
But I do agree about not being able to use postage stamps an an increasingly large range of postal items, and I think that is something that should be pursued. Royal Mail used to give cover up to £50 for Recorded Delivery items (on which you could use stamps) but they have reduced that cover to £20 meaning that to get cover for that amount now you have to use Tracked 48 (on which you can't use stamps). Royal Mail are deliberately reducing the range of products on which you can use stamps, and I think that is sharp practice.

I’ve said it many times…but mine changed over last weekend.

My thoughts on various things on this thread:
1) Royal Mail have always paid me relatively quickly and in full whenever I've claimed, for selling price plus postage. You need to be sensible when claiming- whenever I've sent a lower value banknote via normal 2nd class postage with a certificate of posting that's gone astray I've always put 'numismatic collectibles' in the item description, which whilst true, probably meant I got paid instead of 'banknote.' In fact I used to make a few pence on missing items as Ebay would refund the fees and I'd be paid in full for postage when I'd bought the stamps for less than face value.
2) The poster who said that ebay want to attract the generation who wouldn't dream of entering a post office, and want a 'simpler' experience, and are priotising these and business customers over people selling off spare collectibles etc. The other poster who said it's all about grabbing more of the postage market are correct .
3) To the person who said they would use local auctions- be careful! I often get lots of stuff that is very underpriced as lazy auctioneers take one photo. Buying banknotes can be great- you'll find high denomination notes hidden inside a pile of demonetised Turkish Lira etc, and you feel sorry for the family member of whichever deceased person didn't get the full value of their collection. If you do use an auction house to sell, check if they offer a convenient, decent inhouse postage. Many don't- I saw a very collectible 1000 Danish Kroner banknote for sale recently that went far under its value as the auction house in remotest Cornwall didn't offer any delivery services. And be aware of that 20% buyers and sellers commission!
4) I can't be arsed to see if my listings have or don't have SD now- too much hassle- I'm out of selling until they reverse it (unlikely) and whilst I am still buying , I will buy less as previously I'd just keep what I want for my hobby and sell on the remainder.
5) I'll keep repeating that no-one should be buying stamps at their full value, even though they are now useless for Ebay. https://www.rushstamps.co.uk/ (postage offers on left) or https://www.philatelink.co.uk/1st-class-and-2nd-class-nvi-discounted-stamps-30-c.asp
Just avoid the fakes on amazon and ebay!
6) I didn't mind paying some commision for the service, even though I would hold out for the reduvced fees offers and sold a whole load of stuff during the no fees period. Even though I realised that couldn't last forever. With the BPF it reminds me of shopping in the States fiddly prices and you're never quite sure of how much the final total will be.
7) Why do I have VAT on some of my UK purchases (all banknotes)? I asked Ebay and they said that BPF shows differerntly on different invoices, although the invoices with VAT are often more than 20% of the BPF!

Yes, it's a push away from stamps for sure.
I won't be replenishing mine even at 30% to 40% that some stamps are avaliable in smaller auction houses. I am sure that the Czech owner of Royal Mail will want that liability off their books- apparently RM were blown away by the amount of Machins sent in for exchange.
Martin Lewis- who I think is brilliant and has personally saved me a few hundred quid- erroneously tells punters to stock up on stamps before price rises instead of directing them towards stamp dealers like those I mentioned below selling genuine stamps off at reduced prices.
