AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Oh I think it will be a long long time before they are forgiven. That's if they are forgiven. I just meant sort things out so that we'd start using the site again.

I’ve given about three weeks of my time to this pile of utter c r a pola and eBay don’t deserve a second longer especially when they deliberately ignored concerns and when eBay community team gloss over them
im gonna try not to post anymore about their utter disaster
and get on with my life becaus end of the day ebay are time suckers and you can’t even sell your stuff anyway cos they contro if it’s seen
but I’ll leave listings on
but if they get changed to sd they can F off

If they made a few fairly big concessions that I don't believe they would buyers and sellers might start using the platform again but it would take a long time before any trust returned and even longer for any forgiveness because of what people have been put through.

I removed all my listings a week ago as I was not prepared to jump through the Simple Delivery hoops, but out of idle curiosity tonight I tried to relist one of my items - a set of 3 small leaflets that fit in a standard envelope and weighs 30g. I listed it for £3 post free, and accept offers of £2. Normally I would pay the postage of 87p.
This was not to be -
UK buyers will pay a £0.84 fee for Buyer Protection
all based the Simple Delivery stated that for "Flat: UK_RoyalMailSecondClassStandard free"
It's just not on - I could stick a second class stamp on the envelope, get a free Proof of Posting from Royal Mail, and in the unlikely event of loss I would refund the buyer, and Royal Mail would compensate me - all for 87p.
So why should I pay £2.74 if I accepted an offer of £2, a 74p loss instead of a £1.13 profit, AND the buyer pays an extra 84p.

Knowing things like this is so useful and made me glad I removed the last of my listings last weekend. Oh for the days when I'd list a item and could see if I had a bid or heard the ca ching if it sold. Then when I saw payment received I'd book a RM collection and it was sorted. They were good days.

Hello punzel,
Ebay have made a concession for this type of sale!
Items that are both under 100gms in weight and under £10. in value are now exempt from Simple Delivery.....
You should be able to list under 'custom postage' and 'stick a second class stamp on it' 😊
(you still have to deal with the BPF boll**cks though...🙁)

I thought that too but tried to list as did punzel9072 but the option just does not appear. Requested a call back about it from eBay who said you have no option, you will have to use simple delivery. I asked again why do I keep getting different answers to which he replied I will raise a ticket to the tech dept to sort. When I was asked for my review I asked the question which is correct for under £10 & 100g. Is custom postage available or not. If it is how is it done. I added if I had to end my current listings, which haven’t changed from custom postage yet, I wouldn’t be buying either in protest. ( I am checking them daily by clicking on revise item to see if they change). There is a bit when listing that says try advanced delivery options but when clicked nothing happens.

Punzel - and make sure that you tick the box that says 'Royal Mail Second Class Letter/Large Letter' and not just 'Royal Mail Second Class' like I did before otherwise your listing will just revert back to SD next time around (or always after the 15th).

Excellent idea. Is the monthly fee for buying as well or just if you're selling?
I suggest calling it Prebay - short for previous ebay 😁

Since all this started I've been watching one of my Saved Searches in vintage glass. A very collectable name, usually with between 150 - 200 live listings, a mixture of business and private sellers / auctions and BIN listings with one or two (or more) sales almost every day.
3/4 listings 171 sold 2
4/4 " 166 " 2
5/4 " 169 " 1
6/4 " 169 " 0
7/4 " 168 " 0
8/4 " 172 " 2
9/4 " 171 " 0
10/4 " 170 " 0
I know it's only a rough guide and too early to see any clear trend but.
Listing numbers trending up, more unsold?
Sales going down?

I wouldn't normally be averse to a monthly sellers fee, depending on how high it was, but how long would it be before they started introducing "extras", and before you know it, you're back to listing fees, sellers fees etc but now *on top of* a monthly fee. Because there's just no end to their greed. Whatever they earn from us, it will never be enough, at least not under the current management.

You have always had to declare trading income above the trading allowance to HMRC (and the Inland Revenue before 2005).

A good idea but going on what I see on ebid (which has several of the same things) you'll have a few problems.
The fixed monthly fee. All too often I see on their boards sellers complaining (and wanting a refund of the up-front fee they paid) that they've been there for x months and have sold nothing. One ebay seller who tried was on here complaining after three days that they'd had no sales and the site was a useless waste of space. That sort of negativity has hit ebid for years, it will be repeated for your site, stunting its growth. So your site's income might be all over the place as sellers come and go because they don't get instant sales.
Far too many who try ebid carry on doing what they did on ebay. Your site won't be like ebay so doing the same won't work. For all its faults ebay is unique (even though it constantly tries to destroy that by copying other sites), its reach gives its sellers a shelter and a crutch. Take them outside of ebay to another site where they have to stand on their own two feet, find their own buyers and sort out their own problems un-aided and they are lost.
But I'd probably give it a go as a private seller if the monthly fee wasn't too heavy. You couldn't expect a private seller selling perhaps 50 items a year to pay the same as a business selling 50 items a day/ week??

The formula is (asking price - 0.72) / 1.04
Therefore the above would look like (12-0.72)/1.04=10.84

Hi
These are very good points, ebays reach is vast, but its constant rules and price changes now put there reach aside.
we actually built a site like this years ago for a customer, and bidding/buy now site just for collectables. Ive been going through that old code and how it was done, it worked really well.
Bringing the buyers is the only tricky part, so its strong avertising, about 1k + listings and a lot of ads. thats why I thought a low fee monthly.
So maybe a £6 fee for a shop front and then 5% of sales, shop front fee would get the advertising rolling.
The only way it would work (Like linux operating system) a site built by the people for the people, so rather than just telling people the rules, let sellers put forward ideas, then have a polling option. let the majority agree. make thhen feel wanted! as at the end of the day, no selling site would ever work without the sellers

I love that "PreBay"
Sorting out a fee structure that everyone is happy with is the hard part, Its got to make enough to pay for all the advertising but not to much to push people away.

Ok, whats your thoughts on a fee structure,
% of sales could cause issues, ebay stops you from selling off site as they lose out, so again more rules put in place.
So what do you see as the down side off
1-5 active listing free
6-20 active listings £6 PM
21- 50 active listings £10 PM
51-100 active listings £18 PM
101 upwards £30 PM
50% of all income goes into advertising each month, 50% goes into overheads, server costs etc and further development

I looked at Vinted last night for the 1st time 🙂 I think Ebay have monumentally got the value of so called "buyer Protection" wrong , in terms of VTD USP .
Its quite clear it is a sells charge as VTD clearly differentiate between what the seller gets and the buyers pays , it is not a massive fee about 7% . The links to to VTD Buyer protection info give the buyer and seller pertinent info to their rights and and managing their expectation , unlike Ebays which is just marketing and lacks anything meaningful for either buyer or seller
VTD is a BIN market which relatively low sale prices and is a genuine Boot fair app , as it bring boot fair items to on-line market . That is it USP and why it is so strong in its key clothing market . The Buyer protection fee really doesn't make that much different , it the fact they are cheap to sell cheaper goods
The genuine free to sell element is , it is free to list as was Ebay before they lost their minds . And depending on semantics was already a free to sell platform , it was only when you sold a fee was paid !!!
Ebay have lost 6 months of seller fees revenue to return to a get to a point where they start earning through more costly and badly implemented BPF which simply will not work for any auction sales as it automatically ups the starting bid and deters bidders . This is what happens when you let so called Marketing experts become leaders . I think a return for selling fees above 99p may be the injection Ebay auctions need as a risk with Free to list is the platform just fills up with over priced Auction lists that stay on the platform for years . Free does mean something is good or worthwhile .
Its not just the damage they are doing now , they have thrown away 6 months of private seller revenue pursuing this hare brained moronic scheme . This isn't just the normal Corporate indifference to their customers it is stupidity at a world class level , but then hey you only to look at other world events to see how contagious this is at the moment
Ebay will survive but not with the current leadership or the current ownership as it will take years to repair this self inflicted damage
