AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

If I sell over 30 items or over the minimum £ threshold I may have to. So technically I MAYBE liable for UK tax
But either way my customer has to pay an unjustifiable inflated purchase price.
And I still don't want to engage in 3d chess to sell my old toot.
As an advisor I hope you are forwarding all these concerning comments to the relevant department rather than being a little pedantic about semantics.

Although I now refuse to sell on Ebay due to this inconceivably thought out mess I do still purchase the odd hard to get anywhere else item, 36 hours after checking out a couple of things I've received 6 reduced price offers from sellers making me wonder if they're starting to worry about the 15th onwards

After speaking with some of the web developers in my company this morning. No its not that hard to get a selling site up and running. As they all sell on ebay as private sellers and are not happy, 3 of them have offered to help build and get a site up and running. Heres their thoughts.
Go back to old school ebay style.
Buyers can pay by paypal, so sellers get funds instantly, seller post item out how they want and inform the buyer.
Sellers pay a flat monthly fee, no matter how many listings or sales they get
Simple buying and selling rules and terms
Same rules for everyone
Whats peoples thoughts?

I'm not that bothered either, although I can appreciate it is critical to some. However, it is rather galling when the delayed payment is cited as one of the benefits for sellers. Payment should be released once tracking confirms that the item is with the courier, or at the latest, immediately upon confirmed delivery. Two days later is simply unjustifiable.

Hi, the 10% on sales would cost most people a lot more tho, £200 in sales you have paid £20, a flat monthly fee of say £14.99 . £5 per user goes to advertising and £9.99 per month covers running costs.
if it was just a % of sales then all the running costs and advertising would need to be fronted prior to sales and being made, calculated and invoice issued

My first thought is don't give Paypal the monopoly for payment methods - it's what Discogs did (amongst other half-baked ideas they implemented) and they lost business. Again, this is part of the problem: not giving options to buyers and sellers. Why should one be forced into using Paypal (not everyone has an account) and why should their fee be added into the equation?
Plus, another site already exists that follows the older Obey model and it's been running for about twenty years.

Hi
there seems to be so many that want to leave ebay, so this may not be a bad idea, a selling site built by the sellers rather than just being told what they can and cannot do.
a simple buy it now option would be a matter of weeks to get up and running

Totally agree with you. I'm off to eBid
10-04-2025 10:29 AM
hi
Yes, paypal, bank transfer, cash on collection, just how things used to be

Checkout eBid

checkout eBid

eBay are taking control. I have often used parcel2go to check the cheapest carrier and they have advised me they will no longer be able to work with eBay deliveries. I'm switching to eBid
10-04-2025 10:39 AM
look into eBid
10-04-2025 10:39 AM
Isnt eBid auction only though, you cant do buy it now price though
10-04-2025 10:42 AM
parcel2 go messaged me a private seller explaining it reasonably well
10-04-2025 10:47 AM
Not auction only, buy-it-now is available depending on your membership type if I'm not mistaken.

Similarly situated I will wait and see, my wife works for Royal mail their delivery people cannot cope now
Parcelforce as well. New sorting machines displace many sorting people machine work at a superfast sorting speed what that does to parcel damage rate we will see. Maybe the usual Gumtree and Facebook tedious fraud attempts and time wasting way of buying selling, probably give up given my age;thenagain Ebay may will do a Trumpian abrupt about face as they thrash about trying to cope with competition.

Reading the comments with interest. FWIW here is my take as a private seller with a glut of house clearance stuff I'm slowly trying to shift.
1: BPF
Views, Watchers and Conversions have gone from marginally confidence inspiring to sporadic and uninspiring since the changes. When my phone bleeps with a sale I assume it's broken! I've lowered my prices to counter and absorbed the BPF fee so all my prices show as .99 to the nearest £1. But this has made no difference! When clearing my late parents house in 2020 ebay was a hive of sales, yet 5 years later it's a desert by comparison.
2: SD
I currently offer Free Postage/Same Day Despatch on almost all my items unless there is a collection element. In which case I usually give them the option of paying for delivery. I use Evri as I find the weights/dimensions system quicker and simpler to understand and this works well for me. I only ever use RM if it's a lightweight/low value item that I send 2nd Class to keep the costs down.
3: The future?
While it's tempting to remove my 350+ listings on the 15th, the only change I'll currently be making will be removal of Free Postage. I'm in no doubt that it won't be anywhere near as slick as my current system, but given the amount of stuff I'm trying to shift I'm at a loss with regards alternatives. However at the first sign of it costing me more time/money/effort than I deem necessary I will probably join the exodus until ebay retract on their decision making. Particularly with regards the SD as this is so much more unpalatable than the BPF fee.
