AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Thanks andha-21.
Looks like the 6th is my last day as a private seller.

At the moment I charge about 30p to cover packaging costs. Under this horrendous new ebay power control delivery scheme, I’m guessing I won’t get anything for packaging costs. Of course, money grabbing ebay will take their cut for doing sweet FA. They keep say it’s all about improving the customer experience. In fact it’s not as they are charging buyers that pathetic buyer protection fee (aka ebay profiteering fee), and now they are going to screw over buyers with inflated postage! You couldn’t make this up. Only a US company could screw everyone over for profit. The UK government should make them sell off eBay UK so it’s a wholly owned UK company which treats it customers with respect, and pays the appropriate UK tax!!

I love the post.
I use RM as my items are signed cd's from my collection. I buy extra bubble wrap for protection and send items by 48hr Tracked and they collect and bring the label.
Thankfully I only have 4 listings left which I'll remove on the 6th.
It's become a nightmare and I've gone from loving ebay as a platform to loathing them.
It just shows that loyalty counts for nothing even over a very long time.

Unless I am missing something on a test I see there is no option for items from 101 to 250g, of the items I am selling off individually 99% are under 250g which is £ 2.10, fleece bay start at £2.70 !!
Also as I read it, items offered free postage do not fall under this new SD farce ?.

You are so right.
They have introduced more policy changes and alterations in the last few months than any other place I can think of.
Holding a sellers money for longer. The rubbish buyer protection. Now the compulsory Simple Delivery. No transparency and only giving the minimum notice that they have to. It has now become a platform that can't be trusted or believed. The biggest insult of all is the option to 'do it the ebay way or not at all'.

I think it's only items under 100g and under £10 that for the moment Simple Delivery will not be compulsory for. Any thing else will be under the control of SD. I can't guarantee I'm right but no doubt there will be small print somewhere that will explain this madness or more announcements and info to come.

Where are you getting that info from as no mention of it here ?
Ok Just seen something from a Kat @ Ebay about the £10.00 and under 100g.

Just been to look at preloved. Hard to find (as a site) and once there couldn’t seem to get away from all the pets for sale. I don’t like to see pets advertised on online platforms so its not for me.
Also looked at V inted but its got all the things that are putting me off ebay. Also the clothes (to keep my wardrobe manageable) I sell go very quickly and easily in the £35 - £50 bracket on here but V was telling me I needed to list at between £1 and £3 to get a sale.
Looks like the charity shop will be getting what’s left of my clutter.

I'm glad you've seen something about it. It's all such a mess.

The only other option I can think of is gumtree.

I haven't got experience of much else for selling apart from ebay but the link below includes 26 alternatives to ebay but some are abroad:

Thank you very much.
I intend to give preloved a try as if that becomes more popular it'll be great. Apart from that I'll go back to good old gum tre ee lol.

it never really got traction back in the day, (although it's good for selling art). But with these changes who knows, maybe they will overtake eBay for the private seller.

Tried that with some dog crates, unwanted auction bits and furniture. I live way out in the Scottish Highlands, so very few people for local pickup to start with and everyone looking is only interested in the free listings anyway. As in, list something at £1 and it will sit there forever - make it free and there’ll be 20 messages claiming it within an hour.
Nobody looks at Gumtree to buy second hand clothes for £35 -£50 and have them posted.
I hope it works for you though!

I guess V inted is the only main option for clothes but only if you choose what price to let them go for.
What we need is a actual UK buying/selling platform that is good for all private sellers and buyers.
31-03-2025 7:45 PM
You could always try it with your choice of price to see if any response if it doesn't cost you much. I don't have any faith now in what a platform suggests.

I totally agree with all of the comments here on this subject. I have been with ebay for over 25 years and have Two sites where i have been selling my clothes and some of the China & puzzles left by my parents.
I am nearly 70 years old and do not have a facility to scan a QR code or not able to print labels.
I have always sent my parcels by Royal Mail signed delivery unless under £6.00 & have all positive feedbacks on both my sites. I will be closing down all the items already listed before the 7th as they will automatically be changed to simple Delivery and will Close for good on both sites and my partner will also close his site unless ebay give us back the postage options of our own choice again.
So, so disappointed after all these years.

If they have any sence, which they seem to have, then they will expand what's allowed and eat eBays 'lunch' so to speak.
eBays strength, it's entire USP is being a giant online car boot sale. Sure you might get people flogging lighters 3 for a pound or a stall with knock off bags, you may even buy from them as your at the car boot anyways. But you're there for the car boot.
Otherwise you'd use the high street 'Amazon'
Or novelty shops such as Etsy/ Vinted.
They are removing the one thing that makes them relavent.

I honestly understand how you feel. Absolutely no loyalty for long term users and they have absolutely ruined a platform that used to be really enjoyable to sell and buy on for people that weren't a business.
31-03-2025 7:52 PM
You are totally right. This platform wouldn't be where it is if it wasn't for private sellers and buyers.
