I’m a buyer being scammed

Hi Firstly thanks for taking some time to read this.

i sold an item valued at £500, I accepted £425.

the buyer is saying I sent the wrong item.

(they took the original item & replaced it with something else)

i am 100% certain I enclosed the right item.

I am very upset by this, I pride myself on my eBay, I have a wonderful relationship with buyers & sellers.

eBay have told me to send a return postage label.

I am 100% disputing this.

If I do what eBay have said, does that mean I don’t get paid & the buyer runs off with the original item for free?

Re: I’m a buyer being scammed

I do consignment sales for customers who want to sell their cards, I usually take them to card shows where the sales can be done in person.

Selling on behalf of someone is not against any eBay rules as far as I know as long as the sale is legit.

I'm happy to discuss my processes for this if you want some reassurance

Re: I’m a buyer being scammed

Hi,

update

tbe buyer has returned the wrong item (as I knew he would)

eBay refunded him the second the package was delivered. They have taken my available balance from eBay & tried to take the payment from my card (which there aren’t any funds in).

I have obviously opened a claim saying the wrong item was received by me.

its an absolute joke.

i have reported the card to PSA, ACE, MGC and reported it to online fraud team.

I have also ordered some ‘tamper proof stickers’ to place on every future parcel.

feeling really really defeated ☹️

That's unusual; the seller is usually afforded time to report a problem.

You need to file a report with Action Fraud who will give you a reference number and a report; do this first.

In the case - if it still open - there should be a "Report a problem" link; can you see that link?

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Re: I’m a buyer being scammed

It’s case closed, however I have raised it with eBay. Post arrived to work at 10.15, 10.26 eBay emailed me saying we have refunded the buyer on your behalf.

yes I have opened an action fraud & been given a case number.

i have asked eBay what seller protection is in place & as I say I’ve reported the return item as different to what I sent.

When you reported the return did you use the "Report a problem" link? It sounds to me like you clicked this link too soon. When you click that link the automated return case is closed and a new case is opened against the buyer (it still looks like one case). However, if you clicked that link before you received the item back eBay likely waited to see what the tracking was showing then refunded the buyer once the tracking indicated a delivery scan. You should not have clicked that link until you had received the different item back; once you received the item you first needed to file a report with Action Fraud then used that "Report a problem" link giving the reference number from AF and attaching the AF report.

At the bottom of the last message you received from eBay there should be a link to appeal their decision. You need to click that link and do the following:

  1. Explain what has happened keeping it brief and sticking to the facts. Make it clear you reported the buyer for returning a different item.
  2. State you have reported the matter to Action Fraud and include the reference number they gave you. If there is an option to attach a file in the appeal process use it to attach the report AF gave you.
  3. State you are requesting reimbursement for the full amount of the sale and request eBay's final decision.
Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Re: I’m a buyer being scammed

Hi Bathrooms!

thank you for this! I appealed it and providing my action fraud reference number they have agreed to ‘refund’ me.

im still very cross about the buyer, as he had the card & the refund, but, at least I have got what I was owed.

i really appreciate your guidance & time on this. It’s really really appreciated.

Don't forget to add them to your blocked buyer list if you haven't already.
