OK so listing some items tonight
good news first - even though Simple Delivery is now being pushed I can opt out to custom settings and select my standard shipping rates
bad news - I have to opt out of Simple Delivery every time I list even though I am listing similar items. Really?
This is from ebay itself: You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.
I mean what does that last sentence mean anyway?

Yes and no.
It is a no because 2.26 is is 46% more than 1.55.
46%.

Of course but the selling fees are far lower than for business, plus the postage is tracked and insured (to the point you don't even need to get involved if there's a loss, misdelivery etc)... The buyer will be used to seeing these postal options as they are for the pricing scheme on Amazon for postage, etc.
Consistency is key, and eBay needs to be consistent with delivery services, seller performance, etc

I don't know why you think I am 'clearly a business seller'.
Is that based on my sales over 21 years?
Not excessive for a private seller who uses Ebay to sell unwanted personal items.
Last year, I sold under 200 items, not even 4 a week. I am not trading and I am certainly not selling to make a profit. Most of the items I sell are from my costume jewellery collection which I began to amass 40 years ago when I started to buy small items for myself.
I don't buy to sell and I don't make items to sell. I am just a regular private seller.

Yes 46% dearer. Shocking that you actually had to point this out!

I have opted out of Royal Mail for two listings now and both times it was a Royal Mail label that was generated! It was so much easier when we could choose

Does ebay merit your extra efforts simply to fulfill what was a simple process in the past?

Forcing sellers to use Simple delivery is an awful move. I have no options visible to allow opt out/custom - only compulsory use of Simple delivery. Have just deleted all my outstanding listings and will be moving to vinted (after being on ebay for 23 years).

I am having to describe weight and size of parcel way in excess of what it is to cover the actual cost otherwise the buyer is surcharged then I refund them. so inthat case a small parcel weighing less than 2k cost a total of double what it would have cost if I had arranged delivery. Simple delivery it certainly is not and Royall mail tracking does not work beyond accepting they have the parcel,so if it is late for delivery there is no way for the buyer to know though internal tracking at the sorting office system does know,as my wife advises who works there. It seems ebay will not now allow seller to include delivery price in the listing for buy it now items either to avoid this tedious system

I just tried to revise a listing because they have changed the "Buyer protection" fees again. A pop up told me that they had changed my listing to simple delivery and there is no opt out. I always use Yodel because the price is better and the drop off point is close to home and I don't have a car. But now they are only giving me a choice between Evri and Royal Mail. Nope. I'm out. From now on any listing that forces me to use simple delivery will be deleted.
In fact, I just bookmarked Vinted and will be setting up an account tomorrow and switching anything I can sell there. Which, in case you're watching, eBay, is 90% of my listings.

I just had a look at my listings and I see that eBay have changed my free postage selling using the trusted Royal Mail Tracked 48 delivery to a paid for service by the buyer! I have never charged for postage and my listings all say FREE P&P. Because eBay have altered my listings they have caused confusion and are responsible for offering something I don't want. They have taken bullying to a new level and made my listings false. I don't have a smartphone or a printer and I will now have to end my listings that eBay have changed.
Why eBay say the seller is responsible for the content of the listing I don't know because I have not listed the items with paid for postage offering delivery in 2 or 3 days - they have changed my listings to false information.

No it doesn't ..I will not now be listing items that are selected for Simple Delivery...because it iis not and its more expensive to the buyer

Does "professionalising" necessarily mean genuine private sellers must be shot in the wallet?

From 6th August you don't have a choice - it's mandatory. There is no Post Office within 5 miles here and the only option is to get the postie to collect for 30p every item - I sympathise. The only option eBay give is to put 30p on every item but that's usually enough to put potential buyers off.

Don't have the choice after August 6th!

H @kitchoct57, all your items as far as i can see are free delivery in 3 days. You need to search for your items as a buyer to see what they see.
You may have been switched over to SD, but you are still paying the postage and Tracked 48 will be an option.
Presumably selection of postage option is your choice if you are paying.
Does know if that is the case?
