I do not sell a lot, especially this year which has just been bad, but the percentage of cancellation requests is getting ridiculous. For some reason more and more buyers seem to want to cancel orders within minutes of purchase. The reasons are usually purchased by mistake or the brilliant 'I've found it cheaper elsewhere'.
I will always accept the cancellation request and it never seemed to bother me before. But again this year, it's just the volume of requests. It's not as if they are buying with an accidental swipe of a button. You add to basket, you confirm purchase, and plenty of time to back out if you want to. Plus all these cancelled items still appear in your sold listings.
Again I will accept the request, otherwise its asking for trouble down the line, but I don't rush to do so. I allow for their pending funds to clear first, and this is another thing the buyer doesn't understand when they message us, we don't get their money immediately, it takes 24hrs. Why should I refund something I've yet to actually receive, lol. Thanks for letting me rant so early in the morning, lol.

Good to have a rant that's the first thing ! 🤗
It's not a usual complaint here, that is, an excess number of cancellations a seller is experiencing, so I had a look at what you are selling.
You are selling great 'collector' items, and perhaps this is attracting those looking for that missing item for their collection, buying and then finding another cheaper or in better condition, whatever the reason, and therefore cancelling yours.
Annoying, but you are dealing with it correctly, accepting those cancellations, as you don't wish those items returned damaged under the pretense of ' item not as described'.
The joys of selling eh! 🤗

Yes, I have quite a few of those recently. But if you think that`s annoying it`s nothing compared to what a `Bricks & Mortar` shop owner has to deal with. When I had my shop one of the most annoying things that drove me absolutely crazy was the `I`ll Tell Him` customers. A customer would come in and make an enquiry about a product, and you would then spend 20 min going through the customers needs, explaining the set up of the system, giving a demonstration of the benefits of the model, and finally getting to that moment of silence where you were expecting the customer to make the purchase, only to have them say.......`I`LL TELL HIM!`.....Aaarrrrgggg! What you have wasted all this time with me, and you had no intention of buying anything in the first place! Coming in a close second were the customers in the same scenario, who having wasted 20 min of your time, would say `I`ll just need to go to the cash point`.....never to be seen again! In many ways online sellers have it easy.

'The reasons are usually purchased by mistake or the brilliant 'I've found it cheaper elsewhere'.
I'm sure a lot of the 'found it cheaper elsewhere' is due to eBay displaying rows of 'similar items' or 'you may also like', right underneath the purchased item...
You would think anyone looking for a particular item would do their research first, to find the best price - but some people probably buy in haste, then spot a cheaper item that eBay has conveniently put right under their nose..!
Personally, I don't think it's a valid reason for cancelling - if I've missed spotting a cheaper item after purchasing, that's my bad luck. However, as a seller, it's always going to be easier to accept the cancellation, rather than have someone planning to return the item, with all the hassle that can entail...😬

A rant sometimes helps others! Bet you are not alone in what's happening. Can't say I've had any recently (such a blessing as it's a nuisance) but there's not much you can do other than accept cos otherwise you will end up with more problems.
Anyone who cancels a sale with me is immediately added to my block list. And I report them. If they do it regularly then they will find themselves getting a warning or buying restrictions. I know others say a seller will lose out on sales in the future but nothing to stop them doing it again if you don't block them.
The time to decide whether they really want the item is before they purchase and pay. It's not rocket science! Just saying!
But every day is a school day!

I completely agree. If you have purchased the item, then why continue to look for it in available listings. The reason is indeed, probably ebay (after purchase) directing you to other sellers, offering the same item. I am realistic when it comes to pricing, I consider the condition of my items and the sold listings. The number of times I am asked to price match my like-new books (with actual photos) to sellers like 'webuybooks' , with their stock photos, is ridiculous, lol. (That isn't a slight on that seller by the way). I think my increased annoyance is also in the fact there is now a pile of items in mailers, which I have packaged but not dispatched due to a cancellation request, now building up.

I would concur with those members above who state that buyers are immediately shown similar or the same product immediately after a purchase.
I have seen a big increase in this type of cancellation over the last 12 months - the latest 3 days ago.
On two occasions I have had buyers come to me to give the reason that they were immediately shown the same item cheaper. One, a frequent buyer from me, later mentioned he was disappointed with the product he received as it was nothing like the description and photographs. When he checked he could see the seller had even used the photographs from my listing.
God only knows what the business logic is by showing a buyer the same item they have just purchased at a lower price!
