So ebay have decided to force private sellers to use simple delivery for all listings.
Previously you could select advanced options in postage and select your preferred postage method as before.
Did ebay announce this to private sellers - did they ....
I searched around a while and eventually got this from the chat bot:
"Eligible listings will show Simple Delivery as an option when you're creating a listing. Starting 15 April, 2025, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing eligible items."
The recent changes like BPF and simple delivery have been extremely irritating but not terminal. I think this is terminal for me.
I cannot express on this forum without getting deleted my extreme annoyance with ebay.

Hi, your listings would come up as Custom delivery if they were under £20 and you selected large letter, but obviously this would only insure you up to £20. You can select whatever you want delivery wise if under £20 on jewellery and watches.
I'm not a supporter of SD, but it would insure you better. I think the option to get a refund on SD is only if you select a tracked postage. I haven't tried it, but I read that you can edit price upwards after listing with custom postage by doing the quick edit on price (little pencil when you hover over this box)

I have just come across this with my existing listings, as I have just found out that they change to SD if I make any changes on existing listings. My issue is with this first SD sale is that I have sold 5 of one item (different designs) and SD have only charged one postage cost as if I was selling one item, so I hope that my buyer will not be charged if it costs any more to ship 5 items. From what I understand as long as it is in a box of a certain size and under 2kg it can be sent, but I don't have a box that size to fit 5 items... I'll have to see what happens and contact ebay accordingly if I have to refund my buyer extra postage costs.

If the buyer paid in one transaction and (so) ebay chose the Simple Delivery label, it can be used as long as it is within the absolute maximums listed here:

The good thing about SD is that whatever package size/weight ebay chooses is fine. I've sent a medium parcel with a small parcel SD label. its fine. it just needs to be within the maximum size/weight that the courier accepts

I don't have yodel as an option, so I wouldn't know.

What happens if yodel has been selected and there is no option for RM? I can’t override it. I only use Royal Mail Tracked because they are the only courier that collects from my home and they bring the label with them. Yesterday I found that I can void the yodel shipping label but I don’t know if that will automatically refund me. It’s very foggy on eBay at the moment, and I’m struggling how to see through it.
Yodel are not a simple delivery courier.

More delivery options with Simple Delivery (from Nov Update)
Drop-off options with InPost and Yodel
Starting this week, private sellers will be able to drop off parcels at over 8,000 InPost lockers nationwide, available 24/7. Choose from thousands of Yodel stores across the UK, giving you more ways to send items when it suits you, with tracking and eBay-backed protection included every time.

So what? I don't want to have to use Simple delivery. That is what this thread is about. I don't give a stuff how many drop off options there are. It doesn't alter the fact that ebay are acting like fascists on this.

My item is large letter size. If I post myself I have options of 100g, 250g, 1kg. I could post within the 100g size, but... no option with eBay - assumes the thing I want to post is 1kg. Useless.
First the app no longer works on iPhones, now this. eBay - you are losing your early adopters!

i arranged a combined SD for a buyer earlier - it was set up as large letter and will still be a large letter with the extra item. All of a sudden they have added VAT to the postage cost? I was under the assumption, could be wrong that Royal Mail dosent charge 20% VAT on uk to uk parcels? am I wrong? When I contacted them they first said its 20% on Postage, when I said above they changed it to 20% VAT on the items, when I said that didnt make sense and didnt add up they switched back again. After an hour on the phone of the lady running to a manger for answers I asked to speak to a Manager and hey presto no one was available. The thing is, that buyers should know what they are going to pay, VAT shouldnt be dropped on them with no knowledge. I am sure that Ebay policy says the prices are inclusive, just like they include the protection fee in the selling price. There is no mention of VAT in the postage, it just dosent make sense. Their figures dont make sense, but ironically my calculations work out exactly to the difference in price of a Large Letter to a small parcel. None of it makes sense and I think its very worrying, in this instance it was low value and I will refund the buyer that difference but for some buyers it could work out into many ££££££££ - I do intend when I can to speak to the VAT people about it, maybe I am misinformed but never ever has this happened previously. I dont like SD its far from simple 😞

think i may ahve found my answer, it could be because of the tracked service and the item being subject to VAT - but why are they charging the buyer, if a seller can claim the VAT back ... I think I will give up on ebay or check every item before i list to make sure its vat exempt.

The only postal services in the UK that are VAT free are those under the universal service (ie 1st and 2nd Class).
Tracked 48, Tracked 24 etc will all have a VAT element. As ebay are charging for the postage - that is why there is a VAT element - same as with the Buyer Protection Fee - this will also have a VAT element.
why are they charging the buyer, if a seller can claim the VAT back
They have to - as it is ebay charging the buyer in the event of BPF and Simple Delivery - not the Private Seller.
The private seller in any event, could not claim the VAT back, as they aren't (or shouldn't be) a business.

And ebay show what the buyer will pay - inclusive of VAT - nothing is added on.
Here is a recent purchase of mine - from a private buyer, who chose custom postage and a BPF was added.
If I so wished - the tax invoice is very clear

I don't want to use simple delivery either. I have posted about it many times. I have written to the CEO, talked to the Executive Team, written to the UK Manager. I have put forward my objections in a coherent and factual way. To no avail, but I have tried.
Please tell us what actions you have taken?
If you feel being rude to me is the way to get SD changed, I would encourage it as an option which hasn't been tried yet. Whatever you think this post is about I was simply correcting the narrative saying that Yodel was not part of SD.

For which I, at least, thank you!

Well said.

the opt out was possible for me with a 6 year old account. until this week when any new listing or edited listing is now forced into sd with no opt out option.
this will force prices up as packaging costs and will result in more negative feedback as evri are useless losing 20% of my parcels in a 90 day period while royal mail charged the buyers extra for the 4 i sent with them.
there is no choice now at all and it's run by bots it seems as it takes ages to find a person unless you have a reason that fits in certain criteria

agree, i tried ebid a few years ago - maybe it's time for me and my 1600 item to try again.....
anyone had any experience?
