OK, I'm going to short sell ebay shares and go in heavily on skip companies.  Wish me luck.

Re: Ebay changes next year

The sad thing is, even if you thought 'OK, right, lets get rid of it all before the fees / simple delivery come in by selling it all cheap', it doesn't work.

Cheap goods just attract even more chancers and scammers hoping that as it's not that much money 'you'll just refund them'. Cheap goods just mean returns wipe out any hope of making you better off vs. just charity/binning the lot. Ah well...

I will be joining that me too movement towards skips (actually i will not because it will go to the car boot and i will cry tears over giving stuff away for a few pence.  I do not have high value items but compared to car boot prices i was happy with what i was getting from e bay (even when the fees were in).  Glad i am only a real private seller...

Did they mention that it is only applicable to purchases from private sellers or was it the usual hack reporting?

Do you really need to ask ; )

Don't get me started on that. I DO understand why... but I remember years ago we first used those Hippobags and it seemed like a fantastic service. My great aunts flat needed a new shower/toilet and we could put the hippo bag in her sole parking space (she never drove) AND park my little van there whilst doing it for her, as it was double yellows everywhere else. The cost? £49.00 (Also hilariously she lived minutes from Hippo HQ, but the price was the same nationally). I think the same bag now is triple that price to the point I just get a proper skip the odd time we need it 😞

Cheap might work for some, I've no view on that, but it certainly wouldn't work for me.  I'm mostly selling rare items that are of very very limited interest, so it can take years to find some nutter (sorry, I mean enthusiastic collector or refurbisher) to buy.  I've had items relist for 7 years and then sell.  When they do, the buyer is often ecstatic to have found it.  I suffered a hoarding addiction since the 1980s, confident I was amassing enough projects for my retirement and banking on living to 150.  It's come as a bit of a shock to learn the NHS doesn't see this as realistic, even if Labour pours in massive funding!

I sold something recently that I'd listed several years ago, to someone in Canada, who'd searched for it across the world.  He's utterly delighted.  Other websites do list that item, with prices over 10 times higher, but "out of stock".  Just our luck, Canadian postal workers have gone on strike, and ebay didn't announce that until well after I'd posted.  And neither did Royal Mail when I bought the label.

TL;DR  Cheap, or even free, doesn't mean instant sales.  It doesn't necessarily mean chancers/scammers either.  For that you need to sell iPhones!

Well yes there is that, the 'limited interest' clause! The 'long tail' that Am4zon first said they were there for.

On ebay these days even if you listed the crown jewels for a tenner each all you'd get is half a dozen watchers, waiting for you to send them an even lower offer.

Only then if you used the Dynamic Promo Campaign, otherwise no one would see the listing which would renew in 30 days time with no views 😜

Re: Ebay changes next year

I have just seen your question is unanswered.

Yes,  currently you can opt out of Simple Delivery.

When creating a new listing here's how to opt out:

Click on Custom Postage option,  this is next to the simple delivery option on the listing on the right hand side, and it should allow you to then select your postage options.

The above is when using a PC / laptop sorry I don't use the app but imagine it must be in a similar place.

Currently (as no one is telling us anything about how it will work when it becomes compulsory 😠) if your item is more that £500 (clothing) or £750 (other categories) you can send without simple delivery/how you want.

Simple Delivery is currently available to private sellers in the UK selling:

  • Clothing items that have a ‘Buy it Now’ price, auction starting price, or reserve price of £500 or less
  • Items in all other eligible categories that have a 'Buy it Now' price, auction starting price, or reserve price of £750 or less

You can't all leave!!!!!

Someone's got to stay to ask the Community Team questions or they might have to try selling stuff on a site  they tell us works as intended.

What a shock it'll be for them!!!

Re: Ebay changes next year

Just seen the latest “ EU common charger policy” coming in 2-weeks time to give sellers more hassle, plus the “deforestation policy” or, track-a-tree next year.

And, while I’m on a rant….. against my better judgement, I considered promoting a few listings yesterday 😱

As you may know I stopped all PLs over 18 months ago with no perceivable difference to sales. But, as sales are now completely non-existent and having read the “how to improve your sales” thread and people’s varying success levels with PLs I thought I’d try promoting a couple again, just to see.

The general and priority campaigns are still available and used to say something like  “get up to 25% more clicks for general and 50% for priority campaigns”?
Yesterday, the wording had changed to “get 100% and 200% more VISIBILITY…..!” respectively.

Or, to put it another way, no PLs = no visibility (or very minimal)?
So another change in desperation to increase profit but will have the effect of losing more buyers and sellers.

Can’t wait until buyer fees are introduced as that will be it I reckon.

Someone posted that eBay still has about 20 million sellers……. but negated to add…. “and close to 300 buyers!”… 😂😂

I give it 12 months.

...

What?  Sell something worth over £750 on ebay these days?

Unless you can afford to lose £750 and would be relaxed about it.  In which case, I have a nice bridge that might interest you?

Re: Ebay changes next year

"In fresh terms and conditions emailed out to sellers last week, eBay said that "proceeds from the sales of private or non-professional sellers will become available for disbursement after the item is deemed delivered to its shipping destination"."

Oh, so we have a new "non-professional sellers" account now, somewhere in between private and business? That's a new one.

Re: Ebay changes next year

*Deemed Delivered - I have just experienced a " simple delivery" carried out by Evri.

I was unawares that It had been delivered until my neighbour collected it from my front doorstep soaked in rain when she knocked on my door.

I have been home all day , Evri have not rang my door bell or knocked and the note on eBay says its delivered at 1.29pm safe place Back door. Being as the back door is not accessible  and I have never requested a safe place, this is misinformation not only to the seller but on eBays system.  The tracking does not show a photo either so where is the proof of delivery?

If this parcel had been " stolen"  I would be without my item and the seller would have received a message asking where it was/ case opened and yet this is not the sellers fault.

If we are to rely on this system there are far too many pitfalls not only the funds being held but buyers and sellers being at the mercy of a " deemed delivery"...

I simply just cannot continue to use this platform, I do not think it is  viable or trustworthy.

Re: Ebay changes next year

The changes to make private sellers less profitable than business ebay accounts im all for tbh. If the customer issnt going to be paying the 0.25% buying from a business, I'm completely for the idea. Course its likely a horrible idea that will turn off a lot of buyers. As for the forced postage through ebay, I think its sketch. I always buy through ebay but if they are now forcing u to use ebay, it's similar to their old game with paypal. Forcing u to give ebay a cut of postage is probably not legal.
