Ebay Is Conning Us

So if I sell a vinyl record to someone for £4 it will cost the buyer £4.85? What is this nonsense? It won't be worth selling small items after Feb 4th. EBay are going to lose 1000s of sellers and buyers.

And really by volume people who can afford expensive Rolex watches are considerably small in number to those who buy low price vinyl records. Just check out the listings.

Re: Ebay Is Conning Us

eBay is NOT conning me anymore - I am outta here !

This time they've made one change too many and this new change of FORCED managed delivery and payment holds until confirmed delivery is really HURTING private sellers 😞

So they can advertise as much as they want on TV saying it's now free to sell on eBay... NO THANKS.

Re: Ebay Is Conning Us

Except there is no FORCED managed delivery YET!    Why do you keep on saying there is, we all know it is coming but the date has not been announced yet, it is not tomorrow!

With eBay, You never know ! - They just seem to hit people suddenly without any warning.

I'm not hanging around to get caught out with my pants down ! - The 4th Feb 2025 has some significance and that's when we're going to start seeing changes on eBay like never before...

Well come on bloody eBay! Respond to your customers concerns. What is the matter with you?

You are going to lose, I REPEAT LOSE, hundreds of sellers after tomorrow, because of your private, seller/buyer rip off. Repent before its too late!

I have decided to suspend all my items (bar one auction that clears tomorrow) from midnight today Feb.3rd.  I am likely to move to another platform as I refuse to be ripped off by eBay. I suggest all those against this do the same. Send them a message! Don't just accept it.

Re: Ebay Is Conning Us

In the long run, eBay, and many of its members, will be delighted to see the back of yet another business seller masquerading as a private seller. It saves them all the bother of dealing with you in the future.

Thats Bollox quite frankly mate.I
Private sellers are allowed to make a profit up to £1000 a year, after that its taxable. We don't all sell junk out of the loft.

Re: Ebay Is Conning Us

I would imagine vinylscot is referring to this policy of ebays.

ie - if the items you are selling were purchased to resell - then you should be a Business Seller.

Nothing to do with the £1,000.

What about people who are forced to bid on or purchase joblots because the seller has listed 1 item they want but as a joblot with many other items which a buyer does not really want and the seller won't split ? ... Surely they (a buyer) should be free to sell on the unwanted items and keep the one they wanted ?

Why does eBay always assume just because someone buys something and then resells it at a later date that they should then automatically become a "business seller" ???

As a true business seller one would be selling 100's of items during the same week... not maybe 1 or 2 on a good day if eBay "allow them a rationed sale" once in a blue moon...

eBay need to cool down and stop being so vindictive towards their private sellers who only make pennies compared to a full blown business seller trading behind a company with a massive stock pile in their giant warehouses... selling 100's of items a day on eBay...

Re: Ebay Is Conning Us

You're completely missing the point, deliberately perhaps.

If you buy something with the intention of re-selling it, by eBay's rules, you should have a business account, to be able to sell it on their platform. There is no grey area here.

The volume of sales, either by value, or transaction count, is absolutely irrelevant.

Re: Ebay Is Conning Us

Quite ironic the title of the thread, eBay is conning us when the OP is the one actually conning buyers out of their consumer rights.

That's completely silly.

So if I'm a collector and bid on a joblot of items listed on eBay just to get the one item I want to add to my collection it is against eBay's  rules to list and sell the UNWANTED items ?

What rubbish ! - If that's the case then maybe I should not buy multiple joblots off eBay if they forbid me to resell the junk I don't want !

Re: Ebay Is Conning Us

I sell second hand records, and often buy "job lots" of a thousand LPs, or even more.

If I were to keep one of these thousand albums for my collection, do you think I should be able to sell the other nine hundred and ninety nine as a private seller?

Buyers can see the difference between a trade seller and a private  seller - They know that buying privately could mean that the seller is not legally obliged to accept returns just because a buyer changed their mind or broke the item because they didn't research what to do with it.

This is not kaleidoscope, Freemans or Argos ! this is eBay which has both private sellers and trade business sellers, eBay already state on most private listings "This seller does not accept returns.  Unless the item was not as described. " So most buyers know full well that a seller may not accept a return on their item, but they still buy this item because they WANT IT.   No buyers right have been abused as they were told by eBay that this seller does not accept returns and they bought it knowing this.

But yet eBay still force Private sellers to have to deal with returns from poor buyers as a part of one of their recent changes even if the item was 100% as described because a buyer LIES and says "item was not as described" to force a return unlawfully.

Re: Ebay Is Conning Us

Consumer law dictates that a Business seller must accept returns, this so called "hobby seller" is denying consumers their rights of return because they are acting as a business but operating a private account, what is so difficult to understand?

YES ! - Gradually.

Or list as one joblot (minus the LP record you want to keep) just like you bought them from eBay !

Re: Ebay Is Conning Us

You've been around eBay a long time. You know the score, even if you don't want to agree with, or abide by, the rules..

As previously stated, they are no grey areas; it's all black and white.

You can't be "a bit pregnant".
