So if I sell a vinyl record to someone for £4 it will cost the buyer £4.85? What is this nonsense? It won't be worth selling small items after Feb 4th. EBay are going to lose 1000s of sellers and buyers.

Really?

Good for you. I make a small profit, yes, from selling vinyl which are mostly bought from charity shops. Win win. But I enjoy it as both a hobby and a diversion from other matters. EBay take note, and stop screwing people.
I don't care what you make on the side and I don't agree with what is happening to people but if the HMRC pull you up they will search google for your username to check what other marketplaces you are using and because this forum is indexed by google they will see your post admitting that you buy for profit.

If you earn money from trading activities – such as selling items on eBay in this instance, you can make £1,000 tax-free. This is known as the 'trading allowance. I'm addition you can make an additional £1000 a year from your property such as rent or I would assume selling items related to your home. I doubt many private sellers are making much more than this, indeed even those that are are not likely to cause the tax man headaches. To be honest they're probably after the big boys not the small fry.

The issue is not so much about taxes as it as about consumer law. While there is indeed a trading allowance for tax purposes, there is no such allowance for the Consumer Contract Regs which indirectly require a business to have an ebay business account in order to sell items they bought.
And business accounts are not subject to the new rules that you are so upset about.

Ok let's not get in to a tax argument. That's not what this is about.
I go back to my original post EBay Is Conning Us. (Taxpayers or not.)
Now thank you for all your comments positive and negative, but you know my views by now and you can go back and read it all again if you must.
For now I have more personal matters to attend to, but please keep the comments coming. EBay will carry on of course on their energy way, but I reckon the message of dissatisfaction has at least got through. Maybe they will give us an incentive by other means rather than admit their *bleep* ups.

The fee being introduced is here to stay whether we like it or not, you can shout as loud as you can nothing will be done.
It costs a company money to make such changes and they will not reverse their decision because a group of people are unhappy. Things will not change on the 4 Feb, sales will still be happening for everyone.
It is that person's own individual choice if they wish to stay on eBay or go, for me I will continue to use eBay like I have for the last 22 years and there will be a lot more account holders that will think the same as me.
I buy based on the value for money whether there is a fee or not, I also sell privately and will adjust my prices according to what the market is paying because I'm not concerned about making a profit.
Good luck with your protest.

The tax threshold is up to £7,500 per annum if you rent a furnished room and automatically no tax to pay if you earn less than 7.5K... if earning more then you would need to complete a tax return.

I have decided to closely monitor my sales based on my current normal sell for a month or so following the imposition of this rip off charge on Feb 4th. After that its more likely than not that I'll be going elsewhere than accept it as many seem to want to do.

There is NO public interaction its only select dealers and traders!
Unless you register as a business seller?
Select clientele and they will message with an offer and no-one else OR I am a collector and you should let me have it.
So regarding this post "Ebay is Conning Us" It is deeper than you think!
Oh I have the proof, countless messages, only 1 person interaction on over 300+ items...
Unless ebay want to turn on the public tap for us genuine 'private sellers'

There is nothing wrong with your items or listings, its obviously the ebay site that has the problem!
I am surprised you have no bids.
20 years ago you would have easy!
I remember the days of sellers having pages and pages of bids...
Gone now!

I've just done a review of my sales and listings for the last 12 months. Taking a broad average, since 2017 when I joined, the last year was about 15%-20% lower. People are spending on more essential things rather than, in my case, vinyl records (which have increased considerably in popularity). Based on this, the worst Government in history, and the upcoming con, I would be almost certain it will be worse in the next 12 months. If indeed I wait that long.

Check this out from eBay. Email telling me how to "improve my listings" so I sent this. I will get this lot to reply to me. Whatever happened to customer care?
