EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Well finally after changing the format of their selling platform it seems every couple of weeks you have come up with the ultimate level of stupidity with this latest total ridiculous set of changes. Nobody is going to wait what could be weeks to be paid for a item they have sold who ever dreamt up this idea much be so far from reality as needing to push every part time seller off the site. I knew when they came up with the idea of free selling it wouldn’t be long before the idiots that run eBay came up with totally and ridiculous idea to claw back the money they have lost the whole senior management team at EBay must seat round a table all wearing clown costumes saying what is the most stupid idea we can come with to really get rid of half of our customers and the biggest clown wins with this idea and all the other yes people follow. Well I had started selling a few bits again but never again and will not be using EBay again to sell anything it has become a total joke of a company I hope your poor and flawed decisions finally catch up with this once great place to buy and sell has become a total joke.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

The point is we shouldn't have to just "live with it",

The idea of a change by such a big company is to provide a positive and pleasant experience for its users... not to take something that was really good away and replace it with something not so good.  I.E, PayPal was good and provided fast instant payments for sellers and another layer of security for both buyer and seller... now it seems eBay have ditched PayPal in favour of slower payments and less buyer and seller protection ! - Anyone can see that this is a 100% downgrade

Remember not everyone is financially secure  with tons of "reserve money" in their bank... so all this waiting around for money from eBay can now make things hard for people who are less well off and in some cases this now puts people off from selling through eBay as the whole point of selling something on line is to GENERATE MONEY QUICKLY to buy something else maybe from eBay or another place or to pay a bill like rent or  council tax which must be paid by a certain date. So delayed payment does not work well at all for this kind of situation.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Surely the idea of a change by any company, no matter what size, is to make more money.

You may not be happy with the changes and that is your perogative but Ebay is not a public service and can make whatever changes they wish without our consent. We all have a choice on whether we use Ebay, if we don't like what they do we can just walk away. Personally I'm happy to continue and don't have any real issues with the changes.

Fair enough.

Still an appalling attitude by what is supposed to be a professional and well established company.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

My understanding was ebay will start to charge the ebay fee to buyers who purchase from private sellers. The ebay fee is charged directly to business sellers when they sell an item.

Unlike cat-lover above, I'm *not* happy to continue (compulsory SD will probably stop me in my tracks) but I do recognise that this is ebay's game, ebay's ball and even ebay's football field!

If they tell me to do stuff I can't or won't, then it's their perogative to tell me to shove off.

'......professional and well established company.    '

Professional and well established companies are there to make money for their shareholders.

Not their customers.

And obviously these changes are (they hope) going to make them more money.

We all may feel a bit aggrieved that things are changing, but we don't own ebay and have no 'rights' over anything they do 🙁

If that is indeed most people's motivation for selling on ebay (which I doubt) it's a very risky strategy.  If the amount is enough to pay rent or council tax then it is likely to be under the longer payment holds, and what happens if there is an ebay claim, or even worse, a payment dispute?

The general advice is to never sell anything on here where you can't afford to lose both the item and the money.  Selling to pay essential bills is a really bad idea.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Absolutely. As you said selling in eBay means you may be simply giving
things away & end up out of pocket after you've paid additional costs like
postage. There's little to protect sellers & as many know eBay doesn't
uphold it's own rules & policies. Scam buyers & false claims are increasing
so if your item is low value it not worth it and if it's high value not
worth the risk.

Some people have no choice with the cost of living these days.

This government has now taken away the OAP's heating money and have cut carer's allowance down... so some people have no choice but to sell whatever they can on a place like eBay to get more money to supplement their now LOW INCOME.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Back at you, why is this such a non issue for you? You don't need to answer because I understand not everyone agrees with my opinion on this and that's fine by me. I'm not exactly trying to arrange a mass boycott, just stating this won't work for me personally.

This is a simple case of overreach by eBay and they need to get out of the way, protection for both sellers and buyers was just fine 5 years ago.

As a private seller I will not ship without cleared payment, that's all there is to it.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

Again, if this isn't a problem for you then it's all good. I'm not the only one with an issue, most of eBay's decisions over the past few years (since trying to ban direct PayPal payments) have a lot in common with what my dog leaves in coiled piles in the garden but this is the first time I've said anything in response.

What I am failing to understand is why some people are so offended by my take on this but this lack of understanding on my part doesn't mean I care all that much what others think about my issue with this either.

It's all well and good being happy to ship without cleared payment and I wouldn't personally try to talk anyone else out of doing it but it's just not something I will do. I'm not sure how to be clearer.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

It seems eBay has been on a downward spiral since Jamie Iannone took charge, can someone look into sacking him, or if you're reading this, sack yourself. Who keeps coming up with these new changes every couple of months that they can't even seem to implement right?

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

I respect that you are happy to ship without cleared payment but as an occasional seller I will never do that and as a buyer I have never expected it either.

As other users have pointed out I'm the one who stands to lose out so why would you care what I think about this anyway? There is nothing childing about my opinion on this.

Thanks mate  👍

I've sold 7 items on 2 different sites and have made close to £310 so far.

Earlier Tonight I had 1 repeat buyer message me showing me a pic of the listing of a lock of mine that he had been watching a few weeks ago, I since relisted it and it's now sold to him on eBay.

It's good when old buyers remember you and come back on eBay otherwise with this awful Cassini search engine not always showing all my stuff I basically have no chance of making any sales... hence another reason why I've now given up on eBay after 18 great years and 720 successful sales...

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

I'll be leaving soon, likely when their "Simple Delivery" becomes mandatory.

They don't seem to understand that it's not so simple for everyone.

You know what is simple? Buying a label then having Royal Mail come and collect it from my doorstep.

Absolutely no need to change it.

Re: EBay it’s the end for private sellers.

They are refusing my payment and I have to wait for 30 days. not 2 days. I sent a parcel on the 8th February Royal Mail 2nd class tracked. It was never scanned the buyer has the goods but they wont pay me as they dont believe me and they told me the feedback is meaningless.

I have now been accused of not sending this they can see the tracking number. This set of rules is a disgusting system. I am out of pocket no money but the buyer has the goods. Wait 30 days is fraudulent.
