Done with selling due to Simple Delivery

As of today (12th November) I'm completely done with selling on Ebay, sold my last item on 20th September, dispatched on 22nd Sept and subjected to this simple delivery farce, customer chose Evri (god help us), and yes you guessed it, the item wasn't delivered, and has since has become lost, as a goodwill gesture I refunded the customer without going through a case as I was about to go on holiday and didn't want the stress of it.

Once I got back on 6th October, I raised the non delivery with Evri via their automated chat who said they would investigate, up to now, nothing back from Evri, so tried their chat again today, enter the parcel number, just get an auto response to say it's still being investigated, so try their phone number, it asks for the last 8 digits of the parcel number to which it links to a TikTok order delivered on 1st November???, which is completely incorrect, so call up again, and choose no options as sometimes if you do this it will eventually put you through to someone, but no it cuts you off, so try the complaints procedure, again this sends you through the same options, you literally get nowhere.

So then I call Ebay, spend 10 mins while they look into it to be told as the customer didn't raise a case for non delivery (because I refunded it before then), they won't do anything either even though they can see the item has not been delivered, and nor has the item come back to me.  The representative then suggested I raise it with Evri, to which I explained the issue again and that they seem to have all angles covered for you not to be able to speak to anyone and take no accountability for non deliveries.

So, how can I be put in a position where I now have no choice over who delivers the item that I am sending, then when it goes wrong no-one wants any responsibility for it apart from me taking a loss? Before this I used to use and be able to choose Royal Mail and never had an issue with deliveries, so I don't think I'll be taking that risk anymore, so I have removed my listings, SORRY EBAY, I'M DONE WITH SELLING.

Re: Done with selling due to Simple Delivery

as on the main thread (and for others reading) if an item is lost in post under simple delivery DO NOT refund the customer yourselves.

The customer opens an item not received case with ebay and provided you show evidence of having used the Simple Delivery label - ebay should refund the customer themselves at no cost to the seller. Seller keeps the funds for the sale.

It is one of the benefits of Simple Delivery.

Re: Done with selling due to Simple Delivery

Thanks for the advice and wasn't aware of that, and typical me not wanting to go through the non delivery case option (as I also thought this might have been a detriment to my account), and trying to look after the customer, that it has resulted in me taking the loss, thankfully it was only a £20 item.....

Just in case you change your mind about selling, you can exclude Evri from your postage options, so your buyer will automatically get Royal Mail. It costs a bit more, but worth it to avoid Simple Delivery automatically selecting Evri, whether you like it or not..!

'You can exclude a courier from all active listings that use Simple Delivery. There may be exceptions where preferred couriers are unavailable due to your location or package size. For example, large packages are shipped with DHL’s collection service.'

Re: Done with selling due to Simple Delivery

@department28 Hi, I have used SD where cost appropriate for a while, but always have to post via Evri. Makes no difference to me as it is at the PO counter anyway, but I have read different reports as to who choses the postage. I had assumed customers choose Evri because its cheaper or because they can have it delivered to a shop. But I have also read that Ebay choses the courier? Which is true - any idea?

Buyer don't know which courier they are choosing.

They choose 'standard' delivery or 'express' delivery. Who is providing that delivery service is not mentioned.

I believe ebay are well aware of Evri's awful reputation. (This reputation probably made them the cheapest to go into partnership with). So ebay are probably well aware that, given the choice, lots of buyers would *not* choose evri. That would hurt the ebay and evri contractual 'bottom line', so they don't want to give buyers the choice.

If the buyer selects 'Stsndard delivery' then eBay chooses the carrier.  'Express delivery' will always be Royal Mail Tracked 24 and delivery to store will be Evri.  There is also Inpost delivery to locker now aswell although I haven't seen a listing with that option yet.

Re: Done with selling due to Simple Delivery

With Simple Delivery, the buyer has no choice and does not know which courier will be used. They just see 'Standard Tracked Delivery' and the price. If the seller has enabled both couriers, eBay/Simple Delivery will usually 'auto-select' Evri - unless it's a remote area that Evri doesn't cover. I think that's how it works...

If the seller has excluded a courier, the postage price will be higher - so you can usually tell what service will be used by the price - although of course many buyers may not realise that Simple Delivery postage prices are set by eBay, not the seller.

Re: Done with selling due to Simple Delivery

eBay don't take into account remote locations. I'm in a "remote" location and am still shown Evri as a postal option, and not at the inflated price it costs to deliver to my location; I'm quoted the £2.90 odd price it costs to post on the mainland.

I used to be able to see what the postal options were by clicking 'contact seller', then 'postage', but not anymore. They seem to have done away with this ability in the last few days, at least on newer listings anyway. I'm now having to guess what the options are based on price, or contact every seller prior to purchase.  It's a real hassle, but I don't want to inadvertently choose Evri and end up having the additional funds possibly taken from the seller's funds.
